Oldfag advice

Confucius: "Old age, believe me, is a good and pleasant thing. It is true you are gently shouldered off the stage, but then you are given such a comfortable front stall as spectator."

Just a oldfag chink here, hoping to dispense my advice to young fellas here since I have lurked long time and noticed a lot of times there are many young fellas seeking advice. If you want to make mega bucks and gain intelligence and improve soft skills greatly, this is what this post is about, otherwise u can move on to (as usual) crypto shill, daytrading and other short term instant gratification stuff.

First, about making mega bucks. To make mega bucks, you really need to be someone who is well rounded. You need to know alot of things and have wide grasp of ideas. Before going to primary 1 (age 7) I have been reading up encyclopedias already. During my time, I read the Childcraft encyclopedia. It is mostly pictures based, but that's the beauty - children can intuitively understand concepts via pictures. And now at my age now, 34, I still continue to read Wikipedia. Naively I also jumped straight into C++ during 1993 (age 11) and learned programming at that age without much difficulty.. personal proof from me that you CAN learn calculus before learning elementary math.

Yea, sure, I am not from Ivy League (Kool aid), but every few days I would just go to coursera and randomly pick Ivy League courses and self study. And of course, I also Youtube daily on channels such as Veritasium, School of life, WSJ, Forbes, Vice, Vox etc u get it. So given that I have "23" years of programming experience, studying Ivy League courses and general reading, will this also mean I am already a Ivy League student with PhD title? Up to you to decide. It's just that nowadays, it really saddens me (especially reading many posts in Quora) people let themselves to be defined by what their college/University title is. That is just BULLSHIT.

Life is really about continuous learning. If next time u ever meet up with a Ivy League stuck up or a McKinsey analyst/consultant, just try and have fun and ask them if they ever read Qunshu Zhiyao (The Governing Principles of Ancient China) search: EB50-01-01.pdf in Google, Anelects of Confucius, Bhagavad Gita or Kantian Deontology etc. The stuff I mentioned just now, are all free material anyway, and you can readily find them. Qunshu Zhiyao for example, was compiled by one of the Emporers of China during ancient times as he needed some form of formal knowledge to properly administer the whold goddamn China with unity and prosperity. Don't spend too much time on crappy stuff like Rich Dad Poor Dad - it's very short sighted, and also u need to shake of the believe that just because some stuff is free it doesn't mean it's useless.

Ok in essence, if you are widely knowledgable (a Renaissance man), you shouldn't have difficulty reading stuff published by major management consultancies like Bain & Co, BCG etc. Such as
www.bain.com/publications/business-insights/macro-trends.aspx

And for making mega bucks - it's this stuff - Algorithm economy. Just think big and try to design something, an algo, that u can make it beat Google's Pagerank, Facebook newsfeed etc. PROTIP: Billion $ idea - Semantic Web Search.

If you can develop this, you'll be the next billionaire. For example, such an engine would be able to understand queries like "What should I do if I have a lot of pimples?" and it should straight away return results like "Look for Dalacin T" instead of ranked pages and u need to go through them one by one to look for the answer. Why it is able to answer "Dalacin T"? That's because the engine understands the keyword pimples contextually, understands that you want to get rid of them semantically and knows that Dalacin T is a anti-acne solution.

>just make the next Google, it's easy

ok

You're old and you read a lot. Gotcha gramps. Tell some more stories about how you know stuff so all of us young anons can go create the next google.

>Tell some more stories
Bahaha.
It's probably easier for you to go fuck yourself.

>I am already a Ivy League student with PhD title? Up to you to decide.
No. Objectively speaking, by any standard or test, you're not. Just no. nope.jpeg.

Now shut the hell up, you delusional old moron.

Please no bully ;_;

>And for making mega bucks - it's this stuff - Algorithm economy.

You're right. What youre trying to say is that getting wealthy means controlling the process, and since processes that make money don't fall into peoples laps you have to design and implement it yourself. It doesn't necessarily even have to be an internet/tech startup, even though those can scale much better.

>Danielson catch more flies with kneepads than chopsticks
>but catch most flies when staring & thinking

OP: look OP, you don't even get my sarcasm. Sorry to say but you really have comprehension problem. Please think of reading up more stuff and taking up languages and improve further etc.
Basically I am telling u guys that titles are irrelevant at all. It's all bullshit.

Btw, look at yourself and reflect on thus:
Confucius: He who speaks without modesty will find it difficult to make his words good.

I may be a moron, but at least I can improve and relearn etc. What about u? Leaving behind some unwashed plates with your spit on it and leave it to the lowly dishwasher to wash for u? Come on man. You may be living in 1st world but your mentality I'm not sure..

If you still have a young spirit (feeling unsatisfied yet with life and would like to have conquests) etc what u must do now is to drop your 1st world "ugh yea we r teh greatest" meme stuff out of your mind. Get off your comfortable 9-5 work schedule or your mandatory "RIGHTS" for employee ENTITLMENT benefits attitude such as guaranteed gesetzliche Feiertage, x months of guaranteed paid leave and move to 3rd world places like China and work.

I mean, if you claim to be a 1st world citizen, you shouldn't have problem dealing with those low level peasants chinkies right? Afterall u are having a Stanford degree and a Harvard MBA u can sweep the whole workplace at Alibaba and straightway kick Ma Yun (Jack Ma) ass off his throne right? And also if u have a Ivy you shouldn't be having problems becoming a polyglot right? Afterall the chinkies are nowadays bilingual at least - well for me I'm quad-lingual, due to the fact that in our country we are 2nd class citizens and we need to learn the native's language but we also need to preserve our Chinese roots and learn Mandarin and for Cantonese it's the clan thing and of course English (which is probably a meme lingua francra that won't last forever).

Immerse in different culture and become a global citizen.

Alright sorry about the rant. Just want to share with u this channel I found few days ago. Examples u should go through:
youtube.com/watch?v=gPwk3iKkUOM
youtube.com/watch?v=9e_mqibZc-Q

I'm focusing on Li Ka Shing and Ma Yun because compared with the other memes (Bill, Mark, Jobs etc) these two guys are more old schooled and from what I feel, old schoolers have deeper wisdom kinda thing. Not picking them due to the fact that they are chinks or something. It's just the way the east thinks - more on very long term thing vs short term. Anyway everyone nowadays is so memed by Mark, Jobs etc, if u follow their principle sure it's good but it won't make u different or have a unique sense.

...

What will it get for you to stop posting

2nd great multi million/billion idea u guys can think off is:
- try a devise an algorithm that can, given inputs such as GDP, income level, loan rates, currency circulation, labor statistics etc u get it, predict when a particular country could become the next super power, fall from its grace, become the next terrorist haven, or doomed to failure forever (life Africa)
- to make such algorithm succeed, you need to have a successful/smart semantic analyzer - analyze opinions from Twitter, WSJ, Economists, even on Veeky Forums etc
- if you can combine these 2, you should have a very decent POC (proof of concept) and u can probably pitch to KPCB, Sequoia, Google Ventures etc.
- potential is u license to those huge asset management companies such as Pimco, Bridgewater, Renaissance tech and of course those avarice slaves like JP, City and all investment banks

So my main 2 ideas so far
- semantic lexical A.I. engine - u can use it to build next Google and Facebook bots
- world economy analyzer/predictor - everyone in $ is looking for this holy grail

As for me, I just left HP Entreprise anyway, taking my time developing the algos, combining frameworks (ex TensorFlow, CoreNLP etc), designing the architecture etc. I'm jobless but I felt way way more satisfied than working as a mindless drone at HPE doing nothing but maintaining legacy internal software - made >10-15 years ago. Come on FFS.

Long term is great and all, but I'd rather have my cake AND eat it. I'll stick with what I'm good at.

Old School doesn't guarantee good. Wisdom in age is something that's hard to grasp the concept of until you get there, and then you look back and think, "Yeah, there's a few things I've learned with age." At the same time, inefficient systems are maintained for longer periods of time due to the dislike of change (think McDonald's employees getting replaced with computers. It's a much cheaper system, and it would've been implemented sooner if old people weren't so prone to "don't fix it if it ain't broke!" concept.) We only grow as a society and as individuals by challenging what we know, always. My 20 cents you didn't ask for.

>taking advice from some guy who can't stop bragging about himself on an anonymous cartoon message board
nope

Hey.. u more most likely using Microsoft Windows right? Look who is Sundar Pichai? :)

What do I gain here by bragging? I just want to share my 2 cents. Nothing else. Oh look, a guy whose brittle feelings got hurt? Mummy!!

youtube.com/watch?v=ElU3NfyDPjg

Well if you must know, one of the things that I want to start posting at time is that I would like to gauge how people from the normie or lower echelon of society think.. If I can understand what are their frustrations, problems etc I think it would be a great asset for me to think of solutions that can solve such problems. A great win win for me. Way better than say applying to Management Consultant (not saying that I can, afterall I don't have the "nice" paper qualifications) then dealing with the c-suite people. I would prefer bottom-up analysis. Thanks

>Veritasium

This is now officially a troll thread.

> try a devise an algorithm that can, given inputs such as GDP, income level, loan rates, currency circulation, labor statistics etc u get it, predict when a particular country could become the next super power, fall from its grace, become the next terrorist haven, or doomed to failure forever

Kek. I appreciate the effort OP but this is shitty advice. Do you know how many books and papers have been written on this subject? How many people have tried to solve this exact problem and couldn't?

Just for example, John Glubb stated that any superpower can maintain its status for around 200 - 250 years before it falls and another takes its place. Reason? The heroic actions of individuals that allowed the swift expanse of the empire are forgotten in its latter stages, giving way to sports figures, "flute players" and other pleb entertainers.

Acemoglu said it's institutions that shape the path a nation will develop. Those countries who favor inclusive institutions that promote individual freedom, property rights and other human rights will far exceed those that do promote extractive institutions.

There are so many variables it is impossible to predict these things, so your advice amounts to:
>"just invent another propulsion technology, I mean how hard can it be? Nobody thought of that"
>"how about you develop teleportation, how hard can it be"
>"try inventing affordable hydrogen production, its costly as fuck and i think no one has thought of that before"

Thanks. Rather neutral post, thanks for the 20 cents anyway.
What are u good at btw? Maybe u can talk about it or something.

I have no idea where you come from, but I just wanna talk about western countries/civilization as whole for the moment.

For me it's just that, during University days I would look up to USA or Europe as the "ideal" type of society. USA - all the R&D, production, great culture, rights etc, Europe - that's where the Renaissance happened.

But as I grow older and worked at workforce, there are just many things that don't make sense. I have really learned quite a lot of stuff from /b actually, despite it's infamy. U know, people would post things like gore, porn, ponies, bullying etc and I started looking up for things in Youtube on vids like people getting so fucking fat that they need to ride in Walmart or racial fights in McDonalds.. all these things eventually changed my mind about the great America.

For Europe.. I went through videos on the EU debt, socialism, general economics etc and I conclude that EU is just a place of entitlement and laziness. Totally different things I read in Wiki about things like the great Enlightenment movement or High Renaissance. And now Brexit, everyone in heavy debt - this gloc is going to implode. You guys are really going to be the next poorfags. Sorry. Unless of course u have a castle at Bavaria.

It is exactly because of the nature of the problem, a chaotic system, with many "unpredictable" variables, that makes this kind of problem very valuable to solve.

If you can solve it, u can be successful.
In IT btw, machine learning is now on the course in trying to "find" those many "unpredictable" variables. Have u tried Spark or Hadoop?

>"just invent another propulsion technology, I mean how hard can it be? Nobody thought of that"
Tesla? Everyone using petrol before that. It's also considered propulsion in my opinion.
>"how about you develop teleportation, how hard can it be"
That's why people are working on the Bose Einstein condensate to trap photons at the moment. They are working their asses off right now instead of complaining
>"try inventing affordable hydrogen production, its costly as fuck and i think no one has thought of that before"
Technically yea, due to heavy bills from electrolysis.. well then at least people are researching about practical fusion

we're seeing it guys.....li sheng finally went off the deep end.

Yes, very valuable to solve. Also very hard to solve. Maybe someday, but not by the average person on here.

I'm not trying to be antagonizing here, but how about you give more practical advice? You obviously know your shit, try to focus it into more life stuff.

I've got my financial independence planned out, but haven't really planned my life after that.

Also, I don't see how Bose Einstein condensate has anything to do with teleportation. Also, batteries were costly and huge as fuck before Tesla stepped in the right moment and helped speed the process up. Here, I also posted the double rod pendelum from chaos theory.

>I went through videos
>You guys are really going to be the next
>Sorry.

You sound pretentious as fuck, do yourself a favor and stop posting this kind of crap. Believe me, it's literally worthless and waste of time

Gramps, is your ego dead and if not, why haven't you killed it?

>34
>old

tl;dr read a lot and design semantic web search for billion dollar idea.

29 y/o reporting in. I get what you're trying to say but I think I can help you say it better.

(ONE of the) keys to success: Improve upon something. there are various ways to become successful/wealthy. What you are suggesting is essentially to improve the quality of life in a specific area.

Steve Jobs understood this. thats why he got as big as he did and why apple soared to new hights. I'm not even a fan of this man nor apple products, but I -do- have to admit, he knew what he was doing.

Breaking it down:
-telephone was invented. A new improvement of life. This became a huge thing and over the next decades this technology ran rampant and everyone -had- to have a phone in their home. It was an improvement in life as it was a new way to stay in contact with people out of reach, and MUCH faster than mail.
-cellphone was invented. Improvement on the previous land line. Now everyone could have a phone with them anywhere they went, effectively letting them stay in contact with friends and family even more.
-smartphone [iphone] was invented - Jobs figured out how to make cellphones capable of doing EVEN MORE than just making a call. He was not the first to make a smartphone, BUT, he did something perfectly that everyone else had failed to accomplish at this point: He made it easy and friendly. It was simple to pick up and start using it. a key point to success when creating anything, is to make it easy and friendly enough for people to take to it. This sparked a revolution and apple was at the forefront. Blackberries had already been around, but if you talked to someone who doesnt use one, they would say things like "its too complicated", they thought it was weird. unintuitive, unfriendly. So it never exploded in popularity.

Yeah I have already articulated on the practical part - become a polymath or multi skilled person, learn other culture stuff (esp Chinese) and accept the fact that is today's economy.. no job is safe now.

If you really want practical stuff (ok let's not talk algo stuff maybe not everyone's shit) we all have to aim for soft skills. Ok captain obvious everyone knows that - but I think what people don't realise is the process of how to achieve that. It's really simple - just read widely on anything.

Those super $ seminars that u go that claim about how to be a super speaker stuff are just only 1/2 truth in my opinion. They would typically use NLP (linguistic programming) techniques training u on how to change the way u talk. Great, ok I'm fine, but there is only so far u can go. More important is like, if u manage to meet Prajeet or Sundar Pichai one day what would u talk to him about?

If me.. I would ask him cultural based stuff first, like how is India going to solve the Dalit untouchables issues, or maybe talk with him about India's classical such as Bhagavad Gita etc. If you talk to people about THEIR culture, this will open up their heart because you have explicit interest in knowing their VALUES. If you just talk to Pichai about issues like hey when is the next Adsense breakthrough or how to make big bucks.. come on, people would be put off.

Read widely on anything - that's what all the big guys are saying, Gates, Buffett, Li Ka Shing etc. Now that is something NOT captain obvious to the majority of the middle or lower class echelon of the society.

This concept can be applied to almost every "revolutionary" creation that makes people rich. Google dominated the concept of a search engine and have become kings in todays world because of it. But one day, at some point, we will have the technology and understanding to create an even stronger, easier to use search engine. Right now you do a search based on keywords and sift through various results to find the answer. Like you said, one day you will probably be able to speak to google "Okay google, what is a cure for acne?" and the AI will be advanced enough to understand the context of your question and give appropriate answers, removing the entire need to hunt through various websites and find the results.

We are only in the beginning steps of having such technology. There's lots of work to be done in various fields before we get there, but AI is something we as a people have been tinkering with and trying to figure out for a good while now. It's only a matter of time before it happens.

And again, this can be applied to almost any aspect of life. You do not need to re-invent the wheel. You need to learn how to make the lighter and faster.

Mm because first of all, it's almost impossible to "handle" photos or particles individually? Can u tell me on how to capture a photon without use that Bose stuff?

After able to intercept, they can move to stages of being able to store/more or even manipulate in future.

If it can be done at larger scale then eventually we can have devices like those food replicator at Star Trek TNG.

Alright, let me rephrase my question. What have you learned in life and in hindsight, what would you have done differently?

Do you have any regrets and other things that you haven't yet done but want to?

> What have you learned in life?
Great u asked this. Basically is this video youtube.com/watch?v=Lg-wNxJ5XxY
I also agree with him. Good values/ethics/morals. I did not reach this conclusion AFTER I saw that video. It's something I had already decided like when I was in primary school. Could have been caused by the type of Chinese education we had during my time. If you really follow traditional Chinese values, such as those Confucianism, Tao and other thinkers like Meng Zi, Zhuang Zi etc it is all about being a "Superior character (with good ethics)" / 君子.

Really obvious real case, right our your country USA is forfeiting assets purchased by our corrupt leaders via IMDB public fund on assets such as Beverly Hills mansions, private jets... u name it. One of the henchman is a fatass named Jho Low.. once received multi million $ from the embezzled funds - the first thing he did was to gamble multi millions away at Vegas. His family are billionaires.. and have connection with our Prime Minister. What would u think of him? I'm not sure about u.. maybe some people would say only $ matters so he is right (I don't want to be with this kind of people - they can betray u based on $).. or to me this is total shit. Totally entitled brat who just happen to be lucky enough to be born in a rich family.

Regrets?
Yea.. I never care about mental illness until I had it. To cut story short, I had existential crisis/depression many years ago and eventually became severe anxiety/depressed. Throughout this process.. my dad BECAME depressed as well of me.. then my mum also the same.. domino effect. Also I had entered/left mental institutions for total of 23 times. Somehow I recovered back but at a cost.. my dad never did so.. even 1 week before his death he told me he felt regretful for causing me to be depressed in the first place.

So lesson is.. in life u need some form of antidote to protect your psyche from such incidents.

So far I'm with you. Semantic web search is good, I use a semantic crawler to do research. Basically it reads bibliography and fetches the relevant text, this does get to webscale, but has some difficulty with "concepts" ... pain in the dick DESU.

My question, based oldchink, is this: do you feel a renaissance is possible in the current global condition?

You need to have some form of believes of values to keep your sanity in check.
Being optimistic as fuck is always a good thing but most people would not like it too much because.. well afterall because most people have defeatist mindset in general. That's why the 80? 90% of society is always at status quo.

I mean just take an example of my friend talking to me last night. I sent him links to coursera.org to ask him take up FREE programming lessons.. since last time he told me he regretted didn't take up. Then he told me that's why he is having low pay now (he is a tester). But when I encourage him to do it.. he would say, no not interested, too hard, and in the end - the best part - I'm too old. Fuck yeah.. so why don't u try to aim to be a boss or CEO? Because there are no shortage of people like those in the market and u can pay them low salary and will gladly accept. Really interesting thing I noticed at my current stage.

For me, when I entered primary school.. I tried very hard to score #1 in the class.. but hmm.. the other chicks are also damn hardworking.. so I only manage to score 14-18 out of 40 usually in the class. This however pushed me to think, yea if I can't be #1 well I can try other fields and from there on I read up encyclopedias and took up arts classes. I also went to take part in many arts contests and won many prizes.. many of them are 1-3 position. I got to tell u.. the feeling u get when waiting the judges to announce who the winners are just simply amazing.

Basically you must remain competitive throughout your life so that u will always have a greater purpose in life. If not one day this mental illness thing can come to u and is a really serious thing.. WHO have statistics saying mental illnesses will be the leading cause of suffering in the future. Why? Because all the current systems in our world right now are actually shit, we still have long way to go from the kinda thing u see in TNG. But even in TNG they have issues right?

Woo! Yea the "concepts" thing is the holy grail right now.. we have DBpedia or YAGO stuff but still we don't have stuff like for example, "what" can be done to "something", say if Apple (fruit) we can - eat it. cut it, microwave it, juice it or something. Maybe u could be the one who will manage to create it. All the best. I am trying to crack the code too.

Renaissance.. yea.. really obvious it is going to be China. Not that I wanna side them just because I am chick. I am from Malaysia but we can observe what is happening back our ancestor land because afterall we are treated like refugees here. But since we know Mandarin stuff etc we pick up developments there.

We all laugh and loath at the Chinese when it comes to things like Made in China etc and say China is copycat etc.

Fuck, look at countries like Brazil, Argentina, Croatia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Uruguay, Russia.. what have they created? None! Only more debts!

China now, after their "copying" mode, they can create their own entities and corporations. I mean look at Huawei, Xiao Mi, Alibaba, Oppo, Didi etc.

When I first started painting as kid, I also copied art works from others.. because that's the fastest way to learn things. Eventually after enough copying u will develop your own sense of creativity prowess and u may exceed your teacher. There's a sayings on this 青出于蓝而胜于蓝

In future its probably going to be China and India (yea u shud be ashamed of shaming Prajeet) outputting and selling the prized algorithms (with enormous profit margins) to poorfags like Europoor or maybe Ameripoor (due to eventual massive skilled migration programs) so that they can use the algo to run their countries in manageable manner (managing a dumb population) and having hard time dealing with more terrorist attacks (that u brought upon yourself. PROTIP: try understand their Quran or Hadith from their views). Sri Lanka or Uruguay? God knows.. maybe whole country bought buy Xiao Qiang or Prajeet.

Economically speaking china is probably where a renaissance could kick off in that they treat capitalism as an engine and not the whole fucking car. So I agree there. Similarly they do not fear imitating that which exists. I was not an academic, more of a full auto-didact. I copied things until I understood them. Starting with machine language code on Atari lol.
Re: qoran and Hadith (sacred texts in general) I originally began reading them to find myself but what I found was in essence the operations manual that other cultures are using. I have successfully used this to 'predict' how a remote office might behave or even what they are truly asking me to do. Very useful. I'll take your advice and study panjeets operations manuals a little closer.

More impressive tho. None of what you've said triggered my bullshit detector. Thank you based oldfag.

>asked to provide wisdom
>responds with a Youtube video
literally Millennial trash

Always a pleasure having a dialectical discussion with someone like yours. Learned new word on autodidacticism today, basically what you and I are doing anyway. The moment we stop learning is the moment we die mentally and spiritually etc.

You read all of these books regarding chinese philosophy, but your ego is out of control.

Well I apologize if that is the impression you are getting at, but I don't have time to be a politically correct or deal with triggers or micro agreesions stuff. Come here and stay here at Malaysia as foreigners and enjoy what life is, dude. Or China, Taiwan, Singapore etc.

Thread was a great read honestly

>Come here and stay here at Malaysia as foreigners and enjoy what life is, dude. Or China, Taiwan, Singapore etc.
No thanks. I'd rather not get knifed in the street, disappeared by the military, contract AIDS from the water, subvert myself to either royalty or party officials, die of malaria, or listen to guttural languages, I prefer liberty, free speech, and the boundless possibilities that only exist in the greatest country on God's green earth.

THis
Thanks chinaBro

It really wasn't

Thanks for your views, although I have to say your views are abit too myopic.
For me, your problems you mentioned - get knifed in the street, disappeared by the military, contract AIDS from the water, subvert myself to either royalty or party officials, die of malaria, or listen to guttural languages - these are exactly the problems I would to know on how to solve via whatever methods possible. For me since I am deep in IT I will leverage my skills on these issues. I just like to solve problems, that's it, the tougher they are the better. That is the essence of purpose of life.

Your country is great, and high and mighty and all, and yes you have plenty of liberty and free speech, but does it matter when say u work at McDonalds and u can't deliver burger on time to Prajeet and u start screaming First Amendment?

I also read up on the stuff your Founding Fathers wrote about, but I doubts that they are expecting to have generations like u.. shouting we are entitled to everything while fuck the rest of the world. Enjoy your house before your national debt collapses and remember, the debt u have now is generated from the savings the other parts of the world have, ex using savings to buy your worthless T-Bills and other notes. Just some CFA or basic monetary knowledge here.

Oh, BTW, you DON'T get to contract AIDS via swimming.. so based on what you write I have a good idea of the age group you are in.. and, what u will end up in the future.

PROTIP: try working at McDonalds or Walmart for short while.

Protip: the daily wages at McDonald are greater than your country's monthly average wage.

Me? I earn more in 1 week than 100 of your countrymen earn in a year, combined.

You have nothing to tell us about success. You can't even imagine the concept.

>some guy in his 30s trying to pass down wisdom
Blow me

You can even imagine ppp

Stupid ass faggot, consumption is measured in real good terms. I'm not even in the argument just your ignorance pissed me off

You may make 100x more but everything is 100x more expensive

stfu you third-world poorfag. no one cares if you're the richest dirt eater in your tiny village of dirt eaters.

semantic search might be fun and great but its toooooo much subjective
>it will never happen
because everybody got different views on it youd have to compute serious alternatives and at the end youd have again subjective shit, because more results is actually better

>yes a query should be partitioned
but when you focus on:
find reason, alternatized, sorted results on background, compared those results accuracy, compare other similar queries
>What should I do if I have a lot of pimples?" = how do i get rid of accne
>ok go to accne site / wikipedia howto?...

but "how to travel on budget" = cheapest flights, cheapest car travel, cheapest ferry, wtf? how many shti youd have to consider

Underrated post.

That is literally Kant for babies. Try his first Critique Mr. Renaissance man.

>Semantic Web Search.
You ever fucking read Tarski's proof on the irreducibility of semantics to syntax? No I guess not. Because Google's insight was basically fuck semantics. A semantic web search is essentially a Turing passing AI. No shit that's a billion dollar idea.

"man who catch most fly must be very smelly"

(1/2)
I'm a Chink also. I’m Taiwanese to be precise.
What's Taiwan? Well, it's Republic of China. We were the official Chinese government when we fought WW2. ROC government lost the Chinese civil war to communist in 1949, retreated to a small island south east to mainland China. And many countries switched recognition to the PRC in the 1970s. So we're not the official "China" at the moment. But we're definitely culturally Chinese.
I was born in Taiwan, raised in Taiwan, and currently live in Taiwan. So I believe I could say something about Chinese value right?
And I apologize for my bad English in advance. It's not my first language. And we Taiwanese rarely have the occasions to use it outside of classroom.

If you're like hundreds of millions of Chinese actually raised and live in a Chinese environment. You would look up to the great "Euro-American mode(歐美模式)".(We always mention Europe and American together because we chinks are racist as well.) We might not admit it outright(especially it's the foreigner who asks), but we do look up to you in one way or another.
We admire you so much because we want to believe that, as a former and current super power in military, economy. art, science, philosophy, you westerners have value that we could adopt.
We want to mimic you, get on the same level as you, and finally surpass you.
We've been trying to do that for the past two centuries.
So what have we learn from that, you might ask.

(2/2)
Well, the one thing that we know for sure is that you have problems. Don’t get me wrong, we still think you as a whole is great, but you’re not flawless. Big whoop, we know that since the Qing dynasty. So what does all that have to do with what I say?
I just want you to know that lots of fucked up shit happened in the Chinese world as well, you just see us in the most glorious aspect possible. You don’t see us struggle to get rid of or at least heavily modify the good ol’ Chinese tradition in order to make our country great.
Basically, some of the Chinese values are great. But there are bound to be more fucked up shit lurking beneath the surface.
No need to shit on Western value or praise Chinese one in order to make your advice seems more viable.

wes that thread was shit thanks for wasting my life

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I am not really sure if you are laughing off my ideas or whatever, but as long as u tell me something new that's great. Thanks especially on new stuff.

I will go through that irreducibility proof. But sometimes it's not wise to believe too much of these stuff, for example if I apply Godel Incompleteness Theorem then well let's all just give up everything and regress to caveman again. Or that Chinese room problem. Chinese room problem.. err well are the researchers themselves multilingual people?

We multilingual people (for me is 4 languages) have unique insights into language grammar/vocab which will take like, maybe 10-20 years for a purely monolingual person to reach the proficiency of a multilingual person trained since young? What about people who have been naturally trained 3,4,5 and above languages? Especially polyglots?

And btw, I dream is that in my life time, artificial Creativity (ask bot to generate Mona Lisa painting) and artificial Sentience (consciousness) will be possible. Sorry I don't believe in Penrose's BS. Enough said. I hope to contribute to this breakthrough in my lifetime.

Hey Taiwan, thanks guys, for all your cultural stuff that's keeping chink refugees here (Malaysia) maintaining their sanity.

Especially these:

Will take time to visit your national museum to appreciate that Cabbage Jade once I'm bored/tired.

Btw, call me crazy, I pray for the reappearance of an Emperor one day and back to the Dragon Throne again.

This time, this 'Iman Mahdi' Emperor will set things right and unite all Chinese (and others who want to ally) again. I hope to be in the position of Zheng He.. just that this time we will be traveling in NGC-2020 using zero point energy, dimension portals, teleportation etc. Endless possibilities. Skeptics/losers - well let them mow the lawn or clean the streets etc.

And yeah, we need people like Shen Kuo to appear again.. he will discover new stuff.

Malasyan Chink:
Your posts were a bit of a tl;dr. And I've been on a slightly different path as of late. But some of what you said is relevant to me.
See, I try to be such a "renaissance man". Not really pretending to label me such a thing, but I try to keep on learning. But there is simply way too much to learn and I only have so much mental strain to spend.
See, I am balls deep into computers, not C++ but deeper shit, security, OS internals, cryptography. Now all that shit is p dense. I can only read so much about it, read me a few manual pages and get away with very little from it, not to mention reading a book about the architecture of 4.4 BSD while also learning how to use my new OS at a basic level.
Now you can see that this is taking most of my mental energy, so I don't have much to spare for the other things I want to learn as well; often, they come and go and I don't keep my finger on them for long. Right now I'm playing a game of weiqi over the internet, something that I enjoy a lot, but which takes time and attention to learn and I can't do it so often because of the aforementioned reasons. So I feel I fall back in my learning of it. The same goes for the korean language, it's like every time I have to review the hangul characters. Real analysis, statistics, not to mention the physical activities I do, in which I can barely keep myself doing them and still have time to learn + some leisure because I can't just study all fucking day long because ofc I burn out. Then there is make food, go to the groceries.
Maybe I'm just venting, but if you have any advice, something on increasing my attention and my capacity for mental strain, I would be very much grateful.
Thanks Ching Chong Ling Long.

>You need to be a well rounded person to make mega bucks

Exact opposite is true. If you want to see what a 'well-rounded' person looks like, pick any normie you can find.

>this thread

Thanks for that, Idiot!

Semantic search is a not so good idea. You can just search "pimple removal". Way faster and easier than making a whole sentence.

>I dream is that in my life time, artificial Creativity (ask bot to generate Mona Lisa painting)
That already exists. I saw it in a Computerphile video, they mentioned a program that composes songs all by itself.

Fellow chink here: just went beyond my mid-twenties, wallowing in an admin job and wants to start in programming. Too late? Where would you recommend I begin with?

Fellow chinaman here... this was an interesting OP for me because your core principles are very similar to mine.

As a Chinese American, I have always felt some sort of disconnect between the way I view the path to success, and the way my fellow Americans view the path to success. Interesting to see that the mindset of always trying to learn more/becoming knowledgeable/old school approach to financial success may be more culturally influenced than I initially thought. Of course, simply learning more/working hard is no guarantee to making a lot of money, but then speaking more generally there's really nothing that's guaranteed in this world.

Better to have a strong set of core values than to aimlessly try to hit the lottery with meaningless startups/gambling on altcoins/doing random shit.
