For me it's mid-case theorycrafting. It just ruins the momentum and brings the case to a standstill.

When the defense wants a witness 2 but the prosecution decides they want a guilty verdict immediately.

And then the defense proves doubt and the prosecution says "Yes but that's just a possibility, it's not enough to warrant a witness 2, you need to prove your client didn't do it :)"

And the judge sides with the prosecution

It happens way more often than it should happen

When the witnesses wall, but nobody ends it because "hurr defense must win"

if you don't get a wit2 as defense because you can't prove your contradiction matters/is important, then you deserve a guilty.

I'm not even talking about rules or what's canon or anything, the fact is if you suck that hard as defense then everyone in the court (including you) is going to hate the case by the end because you're clearly bad at your role and having another witness won't change that. Making the case last an extra 4 hours is not going to suddenly fix everything. Wit1 SHOULD be a gatekeeper to prevent shitty defenses from wasting time with bad arguments or faulty logic.

How to be a good witness without spoonfeeding the defense guide, version 1.0

>Step 1
Don't spoonfeed. At all. Ever. Point blank period.

Make sure at least one of your statements contradicts directly with the evidence or detective's findings. I cannot stress this point enough. If your statements just contradict another witness, then there will be hour long arguments about which witness is lying. Try to avoid this. And it needs to be in your statements, or behind an obvious press. If it's behind an obscure press or something the defense might never ask, it's a shitty contradiction.

If you're planning on being a tough witness or the final boss, then have multiple intended contradictions planned. Again, this cannot be stressed enough. Too many defenses end up failing on the second witness because "not the RIGHT contradiction." And I understand as a witness player that you want them to find the one that gives you MMO. So don't just have one. Have several. Plan for the cross examination going multiple ways.
