Sorry but The 20th century was unique in its utter rejection of Religion. Religion is coming back strong and reforming Islam to be peacful is up to muslims themsleves unfortunately.
We must instead of being fedoar fags reintegrate Christianity on a state level again but this time with all our academic knowledge.
We have to take religion seriously and through the government make sure critical and self critical knowledge of it is dissaminated through our society. Religion has a power to unite and make us feel part of a long lineage of people and ideas and myths.

Because Turkey isn't as successful as it initially was and now people turn to faith to feel better about themselves.

>the theocracy meme
And the only argument you has is "muh fedora!"

It's kind of hard to have a republic in a country full of Anatolian peasants.

What's surprising is that the system held up as long as it did. It was only a matter of time until one of the many fuckwits elected by the fuckwit masses managed to purge the military enough to consolidate control.

you have a country, but instead of europeans you have turks.

it will happen to germany as well. every nation that has a big muslim population in europe is having civil unrests or/and had wars. muslims have to be assimilated in the european value system or exiled to the next muslim country that shares their beliefs.

ataturk tried assimilating the nation into an european value system and has failed among the turks since they are not european. now you have it.

They're two different people, with different belief systems and ideals.

He was cuck who fetishized western values.

Instead of following the Meiji model, he tried to supress the culture of his own people.

Now you have middle-class urban turks pretending they are white and european while worshipping this dude. How pathetic.

I don't think he ever said that. He was a Sunni and witnessed crying to a prayer speech in a mosque once.

Didn't the earlier Turks do the same but rather surpressed Turkish culture with Arabic and Islam rather than western values?

What? Christianity is dying in Europe at a pretty fucking spectacular rate. Atheism is only increasing in America.

The only big religion that is growing, as far as I know, is Islam.

You can't have Meiji model with Islam. It, unfortunately, needs to be brutally suppressed if you want any progress. Half-measures do no good

And you can't really blame him for fetishizing the West when he saw what a worlds of difference in terms of prosperity there was between his native Thessaloniki and the other Ottoman vilayets and the West. Ataturk's mentality was a product of gross Ottoman incompetence in economic liberalization. Hence why he tried to take it a step further than even the West and tried to emancipate women; classic overcompensation

Europe must become more like Russia (in terms of religion and level of education, I mean, not in standard of living).

What about a ruler who needs ethnic homogeneity to uphold his government?

You mean how did it go from history to not history? The 25 year rule

Russians don't give a fuck about religion. And their education system is, generally speaking, abysmal.

To be fair Turkish culture of the time was a active problem with modernizing Turky.

> Instead of following the Meiji model

Because the conditions in late 19th century or early 20th century Turk was anything like it was in Japan.

Japan had a highly literate homogeneous population, large amounts of gold cash for the size of its economy, was somewhat protected from European goods due to shipping distance, and mostly had wars of its choosing.

The Ottoman empire had large parts of its population wanting to be out of said state, was right on Europe's doorstep, and had a great many wars happen to it.

Islam is undergoing a reactionary phase and expanding mostly through natural births, but it's safe to assume that there are proportionally more atheist, non-religious and "cultural Muslim" people in Muslim countries right now than in any historical period.

This fucking cancerous faggot has risen ISIS-tier militia who proceed to behead people in the middle of Istranbul

>turkey will never have a decent leader ever again

hold me

christianity is the fastest growing religion thanks to africa

Turkey has the same urban/rural cultural divide as most countries, just more exaggerated than most. Turkish "rednecks" have never been secular.

Atatürk had class while erdogan looks like your local kebab technician in a suit
