Rivers can change shape over time, meaning that your borders will eventually end up looking like this.

That's pretty gross

Rivers are usually important trade routes and usually densly populated. A river should be the heart of a country, not the border of it.

That depends on the river. What you say is true for a narrow river like the Seine. Not for a wide a fuck river like the Rhine, which is much better suited as a border.

except it's both, seeing as how the Rhine and the Danube, both being long, deep and wide rivers, served as the best trade highways and as borders throught european history.

So, how is it a problem for it to be a border, it just means two countries can access that trade route instead of just one.

In general nothing, but justifying borders that ignore ethnic, econmic and historical facts just to appease strategic thought is insincere and hypocrital.

>insincere and hypocritical.

True, but it's pragmatic and at the end that's all that matters.

Not even that argument hold much value, if you transgress ethnic boundaries you hint seeds of distrust and strife, if you ignore existing economic relations you can potentially wreck a whole region.

On top of that some river means jack shit today as far as strategic importance goes.

The U.S.-Mexican border almost led to a Second Mexican-American War because the Rio Grande kept changing course which annexed a good amount of land to the U.S. and Tejanos ended up pushing Mexicans out of their homes and back into Mexico. The dispute ended up getting (sort of settled) in 1873 but it wasn't fully settled until the 1960's.

Rivers change

>ethnic boundaries

Yes?
If you extended England's border into Wales and told everyone living there
>Lel ur English now xDDD
They'd tell you to fuck off
Same goes for German/Polish, Norweigan/Swedish etc

>that pic
Glad that bubble bursted quite quickly

Not sure theres enough of a welsh identity left at this point. But your right about the others.

Drainage basins borders are generally better, but rivers will do when needed.

And btw, these are the natural borders of france.

Because France's """"""""""""""""""""natural borders"""""""""""""""""""" are fucking disgusting.

Huh? Those borders are sexy as fuck

What did Francs even intend on doing with all those territories on the Left Bank that weren't French? Were they gonna kick all non-French speakers out or something?

>t. german colonizer
France's natural borders are beautufil and in harmony with nature.

Because if it's the heart of the country it's like the main highway, otherwise it's pretty useless

NEVER post again

emancipating the Rhineland serfs

Probably the same thing the french did to the Occitane

Would it be successful though (assuming they held on to the territory that is)? French and Occitan are both Romance languages, while German is, well, Germanic.

Why Corse and no Sardinia?

I think it wasnt a matter of language group, if you get beaten with a stick everytime you speak your dialect, you quickly learn
