I play IL-2 1946 and Im trying to get combat ready for CloD MP. Stopped playing for a while because I gotta fix my stick first.

There's M.A.V. in the making on Steam, but it still needs a while before it's really good.

The next best thing I now of is Gungriffon. There's one for Sega CD, one for PS2 and one for XBox. And some jap made a free PC port of the original called High-Macs Simulator. It's in Japanese, though lots of things are in English and it's not that hard to figure out to follow waypoints and blow up the bad dudes.

We yukk about flying over in /n/ a good deal in the general aviation thread, but it keeps dying. All the bike-riding kids are coming out for the summer and the glut of threads they make managed to kill a /gag/ thread before it could take off. Also, the board is normally really slow-moving, so it could be hours before something new is posted, or even a couple of days.

It's remarkably shitposting-free, though, aside from the occasional bike-kid who hates a non-bike thread being on his board (that was originally made for train enthusiasts, no less)

No, but I do occasionally get the urge to drop down to the deck and bob and weave between buildings. Never do, though, I like being allowed to fly.

General aviation is kinda eh to me. Like, I could probably be into it a lot more if I had a PPL or had any experience flying IRL at all, but I don't, as I don't shit money.

see, this is why I don't think the F-5E will be the king of WVR vs. the MiG-21 like everyone things. Unless those sidewinders it gets are all aspect, it's going to get slaughtered in the merge by any aquatic mattress specialist smart enough to sling an R-3R under his wing.

Not quite.

The power of the R-3R is very overstated imo, if LN ever got around to making it as shit as it should be it would be a non issue. All the F-5 has to do is dodge that first head on shot using his RWR + chaff spamming and he's into the merge where he can cream the MiG. Though the R-60M is high aspect the 21 will struggle to get its nose on target for the shot.

In DCS the R-60M on the MiG-21 is only high aspect. Annoyingly, it's all aspect on the FC3 jets.

Oddly enough ED won't develop the actual training equipment used by aircraft in those exercises- like making the CAP-9s have working seekers and shit, because that would take effort. It'd be useful to be able to fly up with some newfriends and get into tussles with them without actually blowing them up so we can reset the fight without reloading the mission.

How would you simulate a hit? Like, would you just take a look at the range/aspect/G-loading of both the launching and the target aircraft and find some probability of a hit from that?

I kinda just figured that any time an attacker aircraft got good aspect and wasn't maneuvering too hard to launch, and they got seeker tone, they just claimed a missile kill.

Just stick invulnerability and infinite ammo on. Then you can play fight to your heart's content.
