/diy/ had a really infamous poster who tried to reverse-engineer a six-axis welding robot with the intention of attaching a dildo to it.

How would you improve ftd's drag?

Avorion is more like multiplayer Freelancer with a ship builder, custom escorts and rare turret collecting than anything. It is a really slick ship builder, though.

Long term plans for starmade were to turn it into a freelancer/eve lovechild with a minecraft skin. Not sure it'll last that long though.

the community of that game turned into estranged manchildren less than two months after I first heard of it and then we started talking about it in /cg/

One of the largest communities at starmade's height was MushroomFleet, and they definitely fit that description. A lot of the community left on the starmade forums are mostly Schine Internet Defense Force. It used to be great, I just wish I knew what changed and caused everything to go to shit. I honestly think a part of it is calbiri. Even now schema is cleaning up shitty mechanics left in the game by that dumb trucker fuck.

Power softcap is hands down one of the worst implemented balance changes in starmade. Not only did it obsolete 75% of ships used by players, they STILL haven't added a viable alternative beyond just slapping down massive clusters of power reactors.

Don't count. They're an unintended side effect of how beams interact with docked entities. Schema even removed them, and then changed it back because people complained. Furthermore, they're a well-known source of collision calculation lag. Having one or two ships with docked reactors may not cause server problems, but when you have 15 of them with 20 reactors each the server grinds to a halt.

Of all the things to ever happen to Starmade, Calbiri being an actual developer was the worst.

If spengies air user is still here, make sure the stockpiling tank isn't cutting off access to the other tanks and make sure you have enough generation to actually notice them working. Other than that I don't know what to suggest.

Also, I recommend you set up the thrusters to turn off when you seal them so you don't accidentally the doors off.

We just need tiered generators, maybe each with mechanic different from regular generators.
So, tiers go like this:
T1 - hyper-efficient
gorgeous e/sec
good e capacity
no grouping needed
minimal mass
bit explosive
minimal scaling (e/sec per block plummets)

T2 - average gen
moderate e/sec
minimal e capacity
scales decently (e/sec per block drops slower)
average mass
not explosive

T3 - must-have for a dreadnought
modest e/sec
moderate e capacity
scales well (very little e/sec per block drop)
expensive
heavy
highly explosive

Capital tier - praise Lord Singuloth
shit e/sec
average e capacity
scaleable as fuck (minimal/none e/sec per block drop)
cost like your momma's restaurant bill
ask SS13 general how dangerous singularity can be


Same could work for thrusters:

I did not expect this, /egg/. I'm actually getting the autism tingles. I just put up a fenced off generator shack to supply power to my local power grid in Sanctuary and I can't wait to start putting up street lines to each house and install switched lights in each, as well as building a water purification plant and more organized defenses, relying on supply lines from other less developed farming settlements with most of the citizens doing other things or manning defensive positions as my frontier Capitol.

I can't wait to try this shit with mods.

i don't know what im doing and i want to design a ship in creative before hopping in.

What tweaking though?

Maybe make something like a faction territory for pirates with some kind of pirate nodes and other points of interest.
Then make pirate attack happen on a successful roll.

When you enter a system, a roll happens, probability and strength of the attack is influenced by proximity to any pirate POI.
Then, if the roll is failed, it happens again after some time, again, based on the pirate map, as long as you remain in pirate space.
If it succeeds and you wipe out the attackers, next roll happens much later, multiplier is influenced by map probability and can actually be negative, resulting in next attack happening sooner.
Now, as you traverse the pirate-infested space, your chances of meeting pirates rise with every jump, more so if you move towards a pirate POI, less if you move away from it.
Also, the probability of attack could be influenced by other factors too, like being full of goodies or something like that.

I just think they should fuck off after a while. They are still going to be there, fucking up the remaining stations until someone comes and destroys them.

It keeps happening in spawn, someone is in the spawn sector, pirates spawn, they leave then they are free to destroy everything in sight.

I tried making that support cruiser thing but good lord you really need tracks or really gigantic wheels because the other end will tip over. I need a better impression of scale for it. If I had access to that manual thing I could make it but that game is only worth $10 at best.

Have you tried out the realistic suspension script? Haven't taken too many high jumps with the racebase yet but it does seem to help survive jumps on my small vehicles

Im still making upgrades, when its done im going to upload a version 2 on the workshop, but there is a guy who make a good mix of small and large blocks and make it almost identical, but the aesthetics cost him the internal space to do something usefull with it.

Why? Because then you know how extreme your suspension will need to be.

I have a whole control buttons for the suspension.
When i put cargo on it, the weight changes so i need to change it on the fly.
Most of the times is

i change this for the front elevator to reach the ground, and the rear wheels to let the rear ramp reach the floor.

I don't know how much they've added to the game, but surely it wouldn't be that hard to script up something to calculate optimal balance.

Spengies is much slower in its physics, but it can survive a higher jump than that. more if there is speed invovled, if its a free fall, if i remember right, it survived 5 times his height.

This shit should let me control wheels on rotors so i can make it with the actual suspension, the one i did ended up in disaster.

one solution i found is use rotors, and a mod wich lets you control rotors with the keys, like wasd. but it was too complicated and also too fragile, have the same problem with any robot i tried, rotors dont have enough torque.

there are some issues that i don't see addressed yet

- how well will the game run on a server when thousands of sectors have been explored
- how well will the game run with 8+ players all in separate sectors fucking shit up
- to what extent can you sprinkle debris and ships over a sector before it starts clogging up the server

I don't think I hit the aesthetics I was going for here.
