So, with the cancelling of resources and DLCgate, we saw the future drastically narrow down to a point. This shift was embodied by Maxmaps' continually repeated statement that "sandbox is scope complete" -- we must deconstruct this statement to fully understand the multifaceted meanings. This will take time.
What is important is that in this moment a paradigm was created. A paradigm that suggested "sandbox" was a complete iteration of the game and therefore a major milestone. When in fact it was an arbitrary and artificial line in the sand designed to limit expenditure so that the majority of the invested money could be fraudulently embezzled.
By "moving on" to career mode, they created a false equivalency suggesting career and sandbox were two facets of an overall thing. When they failed to deliver career in a timely manner, science mode was added. Another one of Max's failed promises leading to a compromised feature in the game.
After resourcegate and the declaration that Sandbox was "scope complete," we saw all development begin to pace itself based on business deals rather than development capacity. Every update after this took 6 months, and failures to move the NASA deal along quickly enough led to completely mutilating .23 through .24, which would have been fantastic updates chock full of content if half the content didn’t need to be removed to satisfy an NDA.
And then of course, begins the true Max regime of .25 on.
Ending the false paradigm means returning to the mindset of 2013, reopening Sandbox’s scope, and, if the fanbase cares enough, scrapping and redoing career.

I'm watching Jurassic World and early on Jeff Goldblum's character says "it's not a game", referring to the coverup of the original catastrophe. That resonated with me, because it's how I feel about KSP.
Sure, the point is to make a game, but instead the people steering the ship have focused on turning the development itself into a game. Lying about features, changing features, secret features, missing features, Squad develops by fiat, and that methodology is by design. Fascism has been praised by official Squad representatives on official Squad channels.
Yet the model that incentivizes them to continue development is based on somewhat democratic principles. Early Access isn't supposed to be distorted into the model Squad used to make KSP. As the millions piled up, they should have planned for a way to care for the community after they "finished" the "game". The impact of their laissez-faire approach is the fragmented and mob-like community we currently inhabit a small corner of.
We occupy a position of power due to the nature of our forum, yet also because we remember the days of .18, and we ache for them again. There was a time when the idea that things could turn around seemed possible, but months after a trainwreck prerelease of a year-long engine overhaul that destroyed all of 1.0's polish, which itself took 8 months, predated only by exploding buildings, which implemented the code infrastructure for upgradeable buildings, a career-only mechanic, the sense of hope has diminished. Oh, and 1.1 is unplayable for many, like myself.
And I haven't even touched on the console versions. Which will have a release date published soon. Or maybe they'll even just come out with no warning, then be quickly disregarded by squad when the 'oldfag' PC fanbase rebels.

On the one hand, there's a shitload of people dying every day who I never even knew, let alone cared about. On the other hand, it takes a particularly callous personality to look at some of the shit on Youtube, people just as unknown, and not get even the slightest emotional twitch when someone's getting truly fucked over, or when karma comes along and says "hi motherfuckers, the bitch is back".
If such a complete lack of empathy also extends to people other than complete strangers, it tends to be treated as a symptom of some underlying disorder, such as borderline personality, outright psychopathy or narcissism. Most of the birds I've seen smack into windows have survived. A couple definitely didn't. One looked very dead until it flipped upright and sat around for a bit with its head buzzing I guess.
