On an unrelated note, why does Return Fire now trigger AFTER the enemy performs its action? When did this change? Because beforehand, Return Fire would trigger first, which is kind of what made it an useful ability.

Return Fire has always activated after the enemy has fired upon you, that's why it's called return fire. Covering Fire is the one that activates before enemy actions.

I specifically remember during launch having my sniper blast a stun lancer in the face before he could attack.

Indeed. Though, with enough sharpshooters with Death From Above and Long Watch, it becomes kind of just tedious.

I was so disappointed when these guys weren't in the Blacklight helmets mod.

Adding new heads to the game is a pain, and you wouldn't be able to add that to the game as a helmet because the head would just clip through it.

Cyclop mod guy will also never get what he wants.

Shame we didn't get that animation, it's pretty cool.

What about the Halo Mods that just make the body invisible and basically have independent models?

I did want to add the robot head to the mod, but like said, adding heads isn't straightforward.

this is a good point actually. the halo 4 armors come with the undersuits that replace the entire body, or at least make it invisible. would a similar technique not also work for the heads?

From my understanding, the only way to add heads right now is basically to apply a material that makes a head invisible and then add your actual head as a helmet, but from what i'm reading right now this has the limitation of not getting rid of teeth, eyes and eyelashes, which means those would show unless your head is bigger than the default head, which is why the anime heads like

but in all serious, i thought we'd see a lot of titanfall and mass effect when those mods came out but not much has changed. it's a shame vanilla designs are boring.

If that's just the head what kind of hardships would it take to do full body/animations replacements?

So this bug has existed for me since launch, am I just the only one who gets it or why haven't they fixed it? Are they just lazy with bug fixing? Ridiculously annoying, I have to mute the game every time I'm on the Avenger.

If we ignore the hardships of making animations themselves, none.

The problem with heads is a bit hard to explain, but basically, there is only 1 head for each gender(actually i don't remember if there's 1 head for each race but whatever), the rest of the heads are created with morphs, which basically means that when you change a head in the game, it isn't loading a different mesh, it's just changing the current one through these "morphs". So basically, you cannot add additional heads to the game because it's simply not how it works, and from my understanding you can't add morph targets either simply because of some limitation of the sdk.

So basically, you're stuck with the default heads in the game, and the work around these anime heads use is to make the game use a head without morph targets and then make it invisible.

With bodies, animations and armor it's all fairly straightforward. There's already a nude mod for example, and that's an entire body replacement, with animations i haven't actually looked into it too much, but i don't think it would be particularly difficult to do, there's even documentation with the SDK about how to import animations into the udk.

That said, there's a grand total of 1 animation mod so far, so i don't think anyone cares or wants to go through the trouble.

Vanilla designs plus all the bazillion mods that are out mean the biggest limitation is your creativity. Make new soldiers with new themes instead of just making Spartan/ODST #159255836 and posting a billion screenshots of it here, we've had way too many of those. Of course you should actually PLAY with what's fun for you though.

When the Marine armor drops on the other hand I'll be hype to see some more screenshots of that, looks way cool. It's just the Spartan/ODST theme that's a bit exhausted.

The only guys who have had any progress with that are the Playable ADVENT guys I guess, but even then they're just taking existing stuff and putting it in a new place. I don't know but there are a LOT of hurdles concercning head animation in particular, everything else meant for a human you can more or less rig onto the XCOM2 skeleton.

You can read up on smarter people than me explaining the head stuff and how to get around it here, but afaik nobody has managed to made a fully animated head prop yet.

The key to a successful mod is 100% extra pouches and utility and shit. The vanilla armour is just too clean. That's why the Titanfall armour looks so good.

Yeah they are, it's a bug I get where every tattoo I attach ends up on both arms. Most of the time it's super annoying but sometimes it looks alright so I haven't bothered to troubleshoot it

I played Arma 2 online with a group. You need some level of coordination in big missions so a group is pretty important there. Small missions are fine with pubs, I suppose. I don't really play much multi anymore. I spend most of my time making missions and scripting the shit out of them.

If you want people to play with, check out Murshun on steam. They do gamenights for tactical games.

Well, i don't think you can get things out of the DLC packages, but if you could, yes. You couldn't just copy paste them over or anything, but with a little photoshoping you could.
