You will never be a roman soldier

>you will never be a roman soldier
>you will never sacrifice weapons of your fallen enemies to Mars

why live? Also can Rome be considered a warrior culture? They certainly didn't shy away from war and had a boner for Hercules.

Rome had no warriors, only soldiers.

Actually warrior is now the politically correct way to refer to soldier circa "Bush Mission Accomplished No. 3285"

Autism
Warriors and soldiers are two very different beasts

Were roman soldiers conscripted or did they volunteer to join?

>ywn join the legions hoping for a leader like julius caesar or pompey to lead you to glory
>ywn get a corrupt aging property developer instead
>ywn be marched into a desert to die pointlessly in a shower of parthian arrows
feels good man

feels good to not be crassus

>Also can Rome be considered a warrior culture

Scholars consider it one. It was an extremely martial culture even after most citizens stopped being fighters themselves. The purpose of gladiatorial games and triumphs was to renew their bloodlust. Roman civilisation was incredibly bloodthirsty.

True one is a player class the other just an NPC.

Mars favors the bold.

Both, depending on the times. After the Marian reforms most free people could volunteer for the army, either as legionaries or auxilliaries, but there are also recorded instances of people cutting off their thumbs to avoid military service, so at times they were definitely conscripted.

It varied by time period. The early Republic mostly used conscription, while the Empire mostly used volunteers, but then shifted back to conscription again during the fall of Rome.

Definitely.

The early republic especially had a huge hard on for champion warfare.

During the earlier days Rome could definitely be considered a warrior culture. They had customs like Spolia opima and Mars was at one point the chief deity of the Roman pantheon.

sissy late romans almost exclusively used germanic/iberian soldiers because they thought outer provinces were more virile

You high schoolers you should read about the ancient dorians and greeks instead, romans is the choice of the historically illiterate

I think so. General mindset was thirst for blood and more land.
It's actually ridiculous that such civilization didn't develop more humane ideals until much later.

America is basically Rome, they only have pathetic excuses. Instead of full blown justification of their geopolitical strategy as means to remain number 1, they claim some foolish things. We yet have to live to see America entering the Imperial stage.

>sissy late romans almost exclusively used germanic/iberian soldiers because they thought outer provinces were more virile
That's bullshit. There just weren't enough Romans to go around. They still comprised most of the Scholae Palatinae.

You had to have a military campaign under your belt to get anywhere in Roman Republic politically, and politics were everything to Romans.

Take your guess.

The Republic had a strong warrior culture, you had to serve in the legions if you had any hopes of becoming a politician and consul. Cicero fucking hated war and was a pacifist but even he went and fought in the legions so he could make it to political office. The empire in its early stages could be considered rather war like but I think after time the empire slowly became less and less warlike and opted to push the burden of fighting onto the population outside the italian peninsula

>ywn be a poor frontline meat shield for posh morons eager to walk over you once you're done 'exhausting' the enemy then see them run away in their horses the second things get intense for real
>ywn be lead into a hellish slaughter where survivors can't even step on something that isn't a dead or dying body because your generals had a petty dispute and took an obvious bait so hard he's shitting the hook
>ywn be made to fight another legion because all legates think becoming the next emperor is like catching the flowers at a wedding
>ywn be stationed being a glorified cop in a backwards shithole like Judea, deep Germania and Iberia where the locals hate you and have fucktard customs, for half of your fucking life expectancy
>ywn be betrayed by allied troops that make up 3/4 of your army

eh, it's cool.

NON FILII SENATOR SUM

Did legionaries really all wear red or it just memeing

i don't think they would have bothered to dye cloth red for every freaking legionary

Rome had a Military or Martial culture, not warrior culture.

Subtle differences.
