I read that the idea of romantic "love" comes from the fact that you don't instantly get what you want, and therefore fantasize.

We don't exactly villify sex. We value moderation of sexuality and modesty. This is partly why we like wearing clothes that cover up our naughty bits and get embarrassed/ostracized when we don't. We humans are altricial and offspring require many many years of parenting, so we have to spend a lot of time and energy with them. It wouldn't then be smart to overglorify sex so that we have it all the time and have tons more kids that we can't raise.

Memetics is a shit field. Culture is affected by natural selection, yes. But the field of memetics is inadequate to deal with it.

Look at sociocultural evolution and evolutionary anthropology and so forth instead.

people get violent when they engage in sex competition. so various cultures try to control sexuality through the institution of marriage, and religious taboos against sexual expression.

note how countries where non of these rules apply (African countries and savage societies) the level of civilization is very low. Everyone there is too busy trying to be the alpha male controlling a harem of women.

It is an historical error that sex is villainized. And different kinds. We all lie to each other too. We are killing ourselves. Though this is not entirely how it works with this sort of things.
