I don't usually enjoy Meta elements if they're as prevalent as they are in UT. I can stomach them here but it usually isn't done well. It works in very small dosages but if you go full ham like deadpool for example then it becomes annoying.

Sometimes I feel crazy for still having him as my favorite but I suppose theres no helping who you like.

Yeah the stuff with Chara was done really shitty and the only point of it for Sans was to make hjim seem more interesting and badass. If it had just been the Flowey stuff I would have been fine with it.

I'm still surprised you drew that based on my reply.

I thought Flowey breaking and closing the game was neat the first time around, but I'm not really a fan of meta stuff when it comes to stories. I like my fictional universes to be self-contained. I don't want the characters to acknowledge that they're in a game, because that means the player character will always be an overpowered, unsolvable problem. It's even worse if they acknowledge that they're pieces of coding that can only behave in certain ways, that's so depressing and restricting in terms of story.

In-universe, character focused explanations for things are always better, in my eyes.

Other than their backstory, I thought everything about Chara was unnecessary and stupid.

Meta works well if you can walk hand in hand with the meta.

I thought it was done well in UT, but in all honesty, for my personal tastes, I'd probably have liked the game even more without it. Especially the confusing, open-ended, weird stuff like how unclear it is what exactly Chara is, how he/she's simultaneously a real, actual in-world human kid who lived awhile back, but is also "the spirit of how you used to play jrpg games" or whatever. That kinda shit still bothers me, and the end of Genocide is just gross, dumb and unfitting with the rest of the game, even if you "deserve" it by that point.

To blatantly disagree with an earlier poster in this thread, I love meta stuff if it's done like with Deadpool where it's used for humorous effect, or even when it's done like with Flowey in this game (for the most part) and is peppered only in a few spots and is very well-executed. But more than that in a serious kind of tone is uncomfortable and confusing, and starts to clash too much with the actual narrative. Undertale has a great, if simple narrative, due to the overwhelmingly lovable characters, great dialogue and myriad options to see different sides of the characters and more of their layers, or just more of them in general. The meta stuff really does go too far at times, though I still consider it one of the best overall video games for my tastes out there. I'd honestly say the Chara garbage and a few other little related things here and there that fuck with the tone and get too confusing are the only things that really bring it down for me.

tl;dr: Basically a game with that warm, comfortable tone + strong, likable characters and good dialogue just like UT but with less / more well-done or even NO meta stuff would be the ultimate game for me. (Of course I realize the meta stuff is sizeable part of what made the game unique and popular in the first place, but still.)

The dialogue and descriptions are even worse than you could imagine, and Tori's pretty out of character even if you imagine to her a sex-starved nympho, but the art's really good if you're okay with kinda hypermilf toriel. Which I'm not, actually, I much prefer a more modest Tori even with lewds, but the art's actually so good I ended up liking it pretty well. Holy shit though, things like the choking scene pretty well killed my boner. Maybe if you're just a good boy and don't do anything she tells you not to, you could eventually get a nicer ending.
