I use Germanics and Germans interchangeably when referring to ancient Germanic tribes. I'm also referring to mostly the area of Poland which I believe that ancient German tribes lived there before the Huns. I know that a tribe known as the Goths once lived as far as the Crimea.

Germans are WEST Germanic while a lot of the tribes living in Eastern Europe (Ostrogoths, Crimean Goths, Rugians, Vandals, Scirians, Burgundians, Herules) were EAST Germanics, so not only they aren't synonyms, they outright belong in a different group.

And modern Germany isn't located where those tribes lived.
