I put up an ad on craigslist offering a "Rent-a-Friend" service for people that are socially stunted, with hourly and daily charges. I didn't realize just how many friendless people are out there that are willing to spend money just to pretend they have a friend. In just one week of having the ad up, the email I setup specifically for it has gotten 134 messages. I've spent around 12 hours each day spending time with the people that were too dejected to handle regular people, and I have to say that it's killed a part of me.

This shit needs to stop. There's gotta be some way to cut these numbers down, the money is great, but I feel bad for charging other rejects just to spend time with them, but what the fuck do I do now? I bought a second phone for this business, I dont drive my own car, I dont let anyone know where I live, and I use a fake name, all in a bid to avoid people finding out where I live. I can't handle all these people, and I feel terrible for rejecting them when theyve already been rejected by everyone else, but I don't have the time to handle this many people.

Is this something I can turn into a business? What kind of insurances would I need to turn this into a business? Would I need a some kind of business lawyer to figure this shit out? I feel terrible about making money off of other peoples sorrow, but this is obviously a wad of cash waiting to happen.

For one of the clients I've got $350/wk for on call work since he has a high paying job but lacks any sort of empathy required to be around people. He's more of a rehabilitation case.

OP, if you're overwhelmed by the number of clients (like there are too many for you to feasibly meet) then raise your prices. That's business 101. Raise the price until the number of requests matches the amount of time you're willing to spend on this.

While I appreciate the sentiment, if you don't physically have time to meet with all your clients, some people will get left out anyway. Raising prices is the best way to narrow that pool so you can meet with anyone (while benefiting your business). If you feel bad about that (which is understandable), then take all the extra money you make from the price raise to donate it to the charity of your choice (perhaps one to help the poor people you're concerned about).

One off the street maybe 40 to 100 an hour.

Mid to Higher tier ones do about 200, 300 an hour.

Just as a general principle choose a price that will give you just enough clients to fill the amount of time you're willing to work. It's just about finding that equilibrium.

Like the other poster said, there's no need to immediately raise prices for your old clients. But if they ask why you're raising prices, just tell them "I'm getting too many requests for me to handle." They should understand.
