I considered spoofing for a while and decided to research how Niantic operates.

The client (app) keeps an encrypted backlog of about 5 minutes. If you're hit by a softban, it's probably the client messaging the central server that your location is improbable.

Playstore apps come with a cryptographic sign(underwriting) which means the app isn't modified. The app cannot be recompiled (modified) while matching the sign. Try opening the .apk with 7zip and look in the META-INF folder.

They do a banwave on occasion, and literally throw in everyone who matches a pattern; 'modified client' + 'improbable behaviour'
