Then you wander around on the surface until you find the giant fuckoff warp gate, then you either get a bunch of core fragments from the mine elsewhere on the surface or you dig down until you find glowing orange crystals. Plug 20 into the gate to turn it on.

Explore the world til you find some ruins, then you have a new quest to get 20 core fragments. You can get those in a dungeon in the same planet or by mining them near the core of the planet

Anyone else having problems just starting it? I'll launch it and see "running" in my steam library for a brief moment then it'll disappear. When trying to launch from the executable it says I'm missing api visual C++, so I've tried to reinstall that, but then I get unexpected error from visual c++. Anyone have the same problems or a solution? On Windows 8 if that matters.

NPCs seem to react now when you steal stuff from villages, but I don't know if they turn hostile if you steal too much.
Look through the starbound forums for mods, there are lots there. Frackin' Universe is pretty good but is incompatible with a lot of stuff.
