Renting a dirt bike is the best thing you will ever do because its not yours so you dont have to do the maintenance on it and maintenance is the only downside to dirtbike riding.

And I'm not sure what the final valuation will be.

Also, there's a couple KTMs, but a lot are just huge ass BMW adventure bikes that I really don't feel like I'd have a lot of fun with.

Go for one of the big BMW's or a Goldwing. Unless you're making good cash you'll probably never own one so why not try it out when you have the chance? You can ride a Grom or dirt bike any day.
