I spend more time fighting the constant bandits then advancing in this game. Running back and forth to keep cashing things in is insane, I have to fight 3-4 groups on the way back each time.

I'd recommend the AO SRP Mod Merge from the repo. Make sure to also get the SRP 1.1.1 update (in the same folder).

Only gripe I have about that mod is that shotguns seem to do shit damage (two buckshots to a bandit's center of mass isn't enough to kill him most of the time).

So I'm going to play Clear Sky blind and vanilla. Anything I should know beforehand?

Yeah I'm basically just using the latest SRP with enhanced ballistics.
Now that I've looked through the optional features, though, there's options to remove enemy and neutral map spots, so that might be preferable.

Not him but looking at AO the new gun models seem somewhat out of place. It should be combined with a change in game aesthetics because in my opinion the guns in AO look too clean when paired with the vanilla environmental textures

you did it wrong somehow. rename old xrgame.dll to xrgame_ORIG.dll or watever, place the newly created one in your bin folder where your original xrgame.dll was

you copy your original xrgame.dll palce it in the FOV switcher directory, run the fov switcher, pick an FOV value for your game version and it will spit out a new one in another directory.
