I have an 86 GTI (pic related) and I'm trying to sell it, but i'm having trouble because it's not in 100% driving shape.
It idles rough and chokes itself out before revving back up. Eventually it stalls. Feathering the gas prevents it from stalling, but without throttle, 9/10 times the rpm just drop to zero and the car dies.
I cleaned the air filter and i'm going to clean the MAF because it hesitates when i give it throttle which usually leads to it turning off.
I know that's not the main issue though. What could this be? I've read vacuum leak, boost leak, bad fuel pump, blow off valve issues, etc.
It's a track car build. It has a 2.0 swap from a 95 Jetta, a turbo, aftermarket bov, etc.
I can't help you but I just wanna say your car is lovely Mk2 Golfs a best
Colton Stewart
Thanks man. Wish I could keep it.
Eli Cruz
How are you forced to sell?

I have a baby on the way and I just won't have the time for it anymore. Probably gonna get a bike instead.
Of course the only people that contact me are looking for a cheap dd, so it not running right is kind of a pain.
Thomas Thompson
>he cucked himself
John Reyes
Where are you located? I'd consider buying it. Always liked those old GTIs.
Isaac Cooper
Fuck that, babby can ride in the back.
Samuel Lewis
>get a bike instead. How is that better family transportation?
Daniel Murphy
Is the turbo spinning freely, builds boost, etc.?
Nathaniel Lee
Maryland. Yeah, they're great. I have another car. 02 wrx wagon. This was my project/weekend/fun car. Yes to both questions.
Gavin Cook
How much are you asking for it?
Jaxson Gutierrez
$2,800.
Jason Garcia
But what can a bike do that this car can't?
Nolan Walker
clean the idle control valve/throttle body
Brandon Parker
I just don't really feel like I need two cars anymore. And I've been toying with buying a bike for the last year or so.
Angel Harris
>2800$ for a car that isn't 100% dribble >piece of shit 30 year old Volkswagen. I hope you know your swap does not make it worth more if it runs like shit.
Logan Jones
Will do. Thank you.
Look up mk2 gtis on CL and tell me if 2800 sounds unreasonable. It is dribble. And the body is in good shape.
Levi Thomas
Still have the factory crank pulley in there? Occcasionally the keyway shears off and fucks up the timing. Pic related.
Jace Robinson
>NEWSFLASH: 90% of cars posted on CL are overpriced!
>paying over $1500 for an old Volkswagen shitbox shiggy diggy
Leo Hill

OP obviously doesn't actually want to sell his car
Justin Diaz
had similar problem on 91' bwm Does it eat a lot? Clean or better change your MAF
John Butler
Just cleaned the maf and throttle body. Idle control valve has some weird clamps that I don't want to mess with until I can replace them. The issue is a little better but not gone. Yes I do family.
Sounds like a fuel issue senpai, I'm not knowledgeable with your specific car but I would recommend checking your fuel pressure regulator, your fuel filter, and your fuel pump.
John Anderson
Yes, a Jetta?
Thanks. I'll have a look.
Ethan Jones
Keep the GTI and sell me your WRX wagon
Joseph Young
Keep your WRX wagon and sell me your GTI
Kayden Adams
Go to an independent volkswagen specialist and have them scan the car with VAGCOM. Clear the codes, drive it 10 miles or so, see what comes back. Anything else is literally just a waste of time.
Xavier Harris
>VAGCOM Sounds like a product for treating a yeast infection.
Henry Green
>I have an 86 GTI (pic related) and I'm trying to sell it, but i'm having trouble because it's not in 100% driving shape. Fix it, or stop with the I KNOW WHAT I GOT PRICE IS FIRM NO LOWBALLERS RAN WHILE PARKED bullshit.
Nathaniel Wood

Also, it drives. Everything works. It has the one issue. But please, by all means tell me how much it should be sold for.
Christopher Walker
