Alright gents. Got a predicament here

Alright gents. Got a predicament here.

I have an 86 GTI (pic related) and I'm trying to sell it, but i'm having trouble because it's not in 100% driving shape.

It idles rough and chokes itself out before revving back up. Eventually it stalls.
Feathering the gas prevents it from stalling, but without throttle, 9/10 times the rpm just drop to zero and the car dies.

I cleaned the air filter and i'm going to clean the MAF because it hesitates when i give it throttle which usually leads to it turning off.

I know that's not the main issue though. What could this be? I've read vacuum leak, boost leak, bad fuel pump, blow off valve issues, etc.

It's a track car build. It has a 2.0 swap from a 95 Jetta, a turbo, aftermarket bov, etc.

Mk2 Golfs a best

Thanks man. Wish I could keep it.

How are you forced to sell?

...

I have a baby on the way and I just won't have the time for it anymore. Probably gonna get a bike instead.

Of course the only people that contact me are looking for a cheap dd, so it not running right is kind of a pain.

>he cucked himself

Where are you located? I'd consider buying it. Always liked those old GTIs.

Fuck that, babby can ride in the back.

>get a bike instead.
How is that better family transportation?

Is the turbo spinning freely, builds boost, etc.?

Maryland. Yeah, they're great.
I have another car. 02 wrx wagon. This was my project/weekend/fun car.
Yes to both questions.

How much are you asking for it?

$2,800.

But what can a bike do that this car can't?

clean the idle control valve/throttle body

I just don't really feel like I need two cars anymore. And I've been toying with buying a bike for the last year or so.

>2800$ for a car that isn't 100% dribble
>piece of shit 30 year old Volkswagen.
I hope you know your swap does not make it worth more if it runs like shit.

Will do. Thank you.

Look up mk2 gtis on CL and tell me if 2800 sounds unreasonable.
It is dribble. And the body is in good shape.

Still have the factory crank pulley in there? Occcasionally the keyway shears off and fucks up the timing. Pic related.

>NEWSFLASH: 90% of cars posted on CL are overpriced!

"I know whut I got"

Your input has been duly noted.

You were saying? This one doesn't run like shit

>This posting has been deleted by its author.

Try again.

I just looked at it. 122K miles New clutch 1985

Dude wanted 1900$

>paying over $1500 for an old Volkswagen shitbox

You replied to the wrong guy m8

See

OP obviously doesn't actually want to sell his car

had similar problem on 91' bwm
Does it eat a lot?
Clean or better change your MAF

Just cleaned the maf and throttle body. Idle control valve has some weird clamps that I don't want to mess with until I can replace them. The issue is a little better but not gone.
Yes I do family.

Here's a video of what happens.

Did you check maf for damage?
Also try to find used MAF for sale and ask to try it before buying

It looked good to me. Would the fuel pump cause an issue like this?

Does it rev up smoothly? Or does it not want to rev/dies when you try to give it more gas?

It does exactly that. Uploading a vid that shows that now.

>95 Jetta

Sounds like a fuel issue senpai, I'm not knowledgeable with your specific car but I would recommend checking your fuel pressure regulator, your fuel filter, and your fuel pump.

Yes, a Jetta?

Thanks. I'll have a look.

Keep the GTI and sell me your WRX wagon

Keep your WRX wagon and sell me your GTI

Go to an independent volkswagen specialist and have them scan the car with VAGCOM. Clear the codes, drive it 10 miles or so, see what comes back. Anything else is literally just a waste of time.

>VAGCOM
Sounds like a product for treating a yeast infection.
