what you're advocating would stabilize the middle east though, when US policy is explicitly trying to keep it unstable and divided so it can't leverage its oil wealth like it did during the OPEC embargo. peace for peace's sake isn't in everyone's interests. it never will be. it's not sustainable, and pursuing it is just a timesink that makes people feel good.

again, don't disagree, except about who's interest it is in to keep things destabilized. I think the US is just part of the mechanism. Concentrated wealth has a significant reason to protect itself, and it has taken the '99-'00 transition as the rallying cry to redefine the world in terms more agreeable to them, and they haven't experienced an ounce of meaningful resistance.

This. Government is best looked at as a creature. It wishes nothing more than to perpetuate itself, to survive, and to maintain itself and the society upon which it is based.

No means, aside from violent revolution, will unseat the injustice and disorder of modern Western governments - regardless of the ideology you subscribe to. And the problem with violent revolution is twofold - no ideology survives first contact with the real world, and violence can only breed more disorder and injustice.

humans are greedy and lazy and spiteful. by extension, our institutions are too. by institutions i mean both government and business since their upper echelons are the same people. that's definitely not corporate propaganda as governments have been demonstrably evil since before capitalism.

i don't think justice has ever existed in appreciable measures, and i don't think order has ever been sustained without an oppressive class structure to enforce it.

i know one of the core tenets of socialist, leftist, or otherwise utopian ideologies is that human nature can be changed to be more virtuous, but i haven't seen any evidence that that's actually possible in the long term so i'm not buying into it. barring that, i don't see any reason to pursue a more just society.
