Car animes are too expensive to produce, especially if they're not already popular. Initial D and Wangan Midnight (to a lesser extent) were already popular as manga series; anything new would bomb unless they poured money into it and no recent racing manga has even touched the popularity of Wangan Midnight, let alone Initial D.

It's basically a manga about touge racing and stance before it was called stance or was cool. It was released in the 80's and highlighted shakotan/bosozoku car style. Don't be put off by the stance thing, it's actually really good.
