Ballistics should come with a ton of ammunition already equipped for their current weight cost, as well as due to how much ammunition it takes to chew through armour in MWO.
Omnimechs with a lack of available tonnage yet still shine in a niche do this with a saturated amount of weapon hardpoints. Giving summoner omnipods that lets it mount single energy slots in side torsos would enable it to run 2x LPL 4x ERML with a little crispyness or 6x c-MPL with extremely good cooling and targeting computer benefits.
Omnipods options to reduce the amount of jump jets in the legs would also go a long way to get that extra heatsink or ton of ammo.
Quirks that provide extra ammunition on tonnage strapped mechs, be they battlemech or omnimech, would alleviate their problems of mounting heavy ballistics.
