Why didn't the South just import cheap Irish/English labor instead of Africans? Could have avoided so many problems down the road.

initially they did rely heavily on indentured servants largely of Irish origin. but britain had designs on becoming the biggest manufacturer of textiles and sugar and demanded increased cotton and cane sugar production, that pressure lead to the atlantic slave trade

You'd be surprised how many Irish live in the south. There's a reason why stuff like O'neil are commonly associated with rednecks.

The book 1493 says it instead it had to do with mosquitoes and malaria. Slavery was not cheaper as paid labour.

You can't identify an Irishman when he runs away

>implying you can't

that's exactly what they did

You're on the same level as the chimps, Patrick, stop trying to convince anybody otherwise.

It's easier to enslave and maintain the slave system of a race other than your own.

Look at Ottomans for example.

>Bloimey! Oim not a slave!

OK.jpg

You don't realize what kind of climate the Southern US has, don't you?
Pro tip: It's shitty sub/tropical one were you couldn't do hard labor almost half the year without drooping dead.
This was in the era before air conditioning and giving workers vacations.
Africans were simply more suited for this.

Wage labor would have introduced a capitalist economy and turned the plantation owners into managerial bosses rather than leisured aristocrats.

He means enslaving the Micks

WE WUZ SLAVES AND SHIT

>Between one-half and two-thirds of white immigrants to the American colonies between the 1630s and American Revolution came under indentures.

>BETWEEN ONE-HALF AND TWO-THIRDS OF WHITE IMMIGRANTS...UNDER INDENTURES

>WHITE INDENTURED SERVANTS

(same source)
>Two famous bound apprentices were Benjamin Franklin who illegally fled his apprenticeship to his brother, and Andrew Johnson, who later became President of the United States.[21]

>George Washington used indentured servants;[22] in April 1775, he offered a reward for the return of two runaway white servants.[23]

DAMN CATHOLIC MICK AND KRAUT SLAVES ALWAYS BE RUNNING AWAY

WORSE THAN THE DAMN DARKIES I TELL YA

Africans were actually skilled laborers with knowledge bases in things that would provide the south with wealth.

Irish did not.

>picking cotton is skilled labor
golly gee

Cotton was cultivated in the Sahel before colonization of the Americas, it's very cultivation was foreign to western Europe.

>Why didn't the South just import cheap Irish/English labor instead of Africans?
Because the Irish's skin burns off after 10 minutes of solar exposure.

They could adapt to it.

No body wanted to buy European indentured servants unless they has been through at least one american summer, because they were totally useless as laborers in the heat. People would only buy your "contract" after you had survived a year. I think it was called "seasoning".

Also Malaria. 90% of white southern architecture and culture stems from not catching malaria.

cultivating cotton wasn't a secret of theirs my man, same way cultivating corn and potatoes wasn't a secret of the Native Americans
picking cotton is unskilled labor by definition

Because Irish are actually niggerer than niggers.

at least we've never oppressed anyone you eternal anglo privileged scumbag

neolithic farmers probably didn't have a nice time

ITT: Anglos

ITT: Anglos pushing their 'Irish are subhuman' meme

A big part of that was because georgia was a penal colony like australia and a ton of irish went there.

>meme

Reminder that Tyrone is an Irish name but they got along so well with chimps that it was adopted by them.

Tyrone is a place, not a name, and also pronounced differently.

The Irish and English weren't enslaving each other and offering themselves up for sale to Europeans.

>people cant be named after places
>american pronunciation of the sane words is the same as Irish

>Irish never were powerful enough to oppress anyone.
>Hey, we're more moral than the rest of the world because we never oppressed anyone!

Yeah, and I'm a better guy than Alexander the Great because he invaded India and I didn't. QED.

Judging from the fact that he unironically used 'privileged' you're responding to a troll.

>Ireland will never be relevant enough to step on the toes of any major world players
>Irish people are already far and widespread enough that there is hardly any corner of the world without our influence in some way, either through godawful "irish bars" or irish communities or one faggot in a University class refusing to let go of "muh heritage"
>Irish neutrality pussyfooting means that no retards who talk about "good" or "bad" in history will ever look down on us, but see us as morally superior because they're retards
>Despite all this, despite being arguably the least relevant clump of land and people in Europe
>Despite being neutral in almost all conflicts and generally staying out of relevant nations businesses
>Despite ALL this, the eternal anglo is STILL this mad at our mere existence

Feels fucking good, lad.

Because they could at least teach the Africans how to be half-decent Protestants up until the early 20th century. Southerners didn't want Catholics muddying up the social circle.

>influence

Hate to break this to ya mick. English could give a fuck about you being Irish. Look at Scotland. Look at Wales. They don't like you because you're Catholic and cunty.

Maybe the difference is because we're not on the same landmass, and we're the only part of the British Isles which actually tore part of our territory out from under Britain.

Also
>cunty

No bigger cunts than the English senpai

If you say so butthurt anglo.

>cheap labor
>free labor

Do the math

Hindsight is 20/20. Cheap immigrant labor was used for more dangerous jobs like construction and mining instead of slaves because slave became extremely valuable after slave trade stopped bringing slaves on a large scale to America. Indentured Servitude served the same role that slaves, but it operated on contracts and those run out.

>slaves
>free
You had to buy them, clothe them, house them, police them, feed them, train them. The price of a slave then correlates to the price of a brand new truck now. Slaves were never "free", even the whites in Africa had to pay the tribes such as Dahomey for the slaves.

B-but that's not what my high school teacher told me

It is kind of a given.

>The price of a slave then correlates to the price of a brand new truck now
To the poor/middle class they may mean something. To people as rich as the slave owners in the south that meant little. People will often go "but only (insert small percentage here) owned slaves". That is true, only a small amount of people could afford to have that many slaves and such people tended to be the most powerful and dictated much of the policy of the South.

Even in ancient times only the super rich could afford a lot of slaves. Supporting two or three slaves could strain the already limited budget of the somewhat well off.

That is true since Blacks are more durable to working in those conditions and for news slaves escaping the conditions was unlikely since they didn't know the place (that's why when Euro colonies in Africa enacted forced labour many natives ran off and escaped the really fucked up conditions of public projects which led to importing slaves from Asia in South Africa and indentured laborers from India at two different points in time).

You drop the hostilities. This is a nice place. Not hate the Irish and blacks day

Dahomey was a vassal state of the Oyo Empire.

>putting gingers to work outside under a tropical sun

Great book

An Irishman has been bayoneted by a British soldier, and as the Mick dies slowly in a ditch the Brit kicks him over and over, cursing him and wishing him a painful, slow death. With his last breath the Irishman asks, "Why are you so angry at us?" The Brit leans down, whispers, "You swine, we will NEVER forgive you for what we've done to you."

Because once the slaves bronught hookworm, they could literally work harder and better than European populations with no resistance against it.

This was "fixed" in public health campaigns around the turn of last century. Funny enough, that may have been a factor in the impovershiment of the black community. Since their physical work advantage (immunity from hookworm) was turned into a parity with other white farmers.

>The South
South America, South Africa, South Korea, South Sudan?

Southern Fryslan we are talking of dummy.
