Is there any historical instance of a society successfully stopping and reversing its own decline?

France under Napoleon and Nazi Germany. If they hadn't been defeated, that is.

Germany kept getting more powerful even after they were defeated, now they're stronkest country in EU

Yeah, while being a US colony with no right to a constitution and armed forces, and now about to become the first European caliphate.

Cool pic user, reminds a bit of Sainte-Chapelle.
The Romans (West and East) each have done this multiple times.
Hell, Majorian had reconquered a large section of the Western Empire by 460 and only failed because of betrayal.

>Nazi Germany

user meant that the Nazis revitalized Germany after over a decade of hyperinflation.

Ever hear of China, OP?

Well memed my friend.

The economy was getting stronger alrady. Nazis just took loans which eventally forced them to go to war.

Nazis still get a lot of credit, but yeah. Germany was never going to stay in the shitter for long.

Decline is not just about economics. There is also moral decline, such as seen in the Weimar Republic. Hence why Nazi Germany managed to reverse Germany's decline, both economically and morally. Until the war came and they were defeated. End of story. This is what OP asked and this is an answer to to what OP asked.

>Germany

Kek, 1914 was the apex of German global relevance and power, they were 4 % of the worlds population (today about 1 %) and represented 12 % of the worlds economy (today barely 3 %).

well, they lost two huge wars in 30 years (and they almost won)

>Strongest in the EU
>Raped by shitskins
>Follow Subbhumandogan orders

HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Sure

I always have a good laugh when some German politician mentions how wealthy and well off Germans are.

Compare the price for a new car in the USA and in Germany, then compare the average wage of working people in Germany and the USA. You too will laugh.

Who is the strongest in the EU then?

The USA.
>Number 1!!

Well they are the 3rd largest exporter in the world after the us and china

>3rd largest exporter

Because they have a highly unbalanced economy and they're paid shit and cant consume their own products on their own - more than 45 % of the GDP is going towards export - not even China achieves that and they're infamous for exports.

>Subbhumandogan
That's just bad, user. I'm ashamed of you.

>so they're industrious enough hit above their own weight in terms of import/export balances
>yeah cuz they're shit lol

right

Yes, literally thousands. The fortunes of nations go up and down all the time.

Let me rephrase it - the German worker is not getting paid enough to uphold the German economy on his own. He needs foreigners in foreign countries to consume the things he makes otherwise his standard of living drops to that of Mexico.

Remember, as the world is a closed system export/import is always a zero sum game.

>reverse of moral decline
>go on to launch the most destructive war in history
>commit multiple genocides

Japan after 1600 is a pretty good example off the top of my head. Relative to Europe from around 700-1400 A.D they were relatively more advanced. They had superior metal work, better record keeping, less strife, more liberal society etc. They failed to keep up with Europe however and eventually cut themselves of from the rest of the world. The only outside contact they had from 1600-c1800 was with the Dutch in what is Modern day Nagasaki (forget the original name).

Long story short they eventually opened up to the rest of the world and became THE power in East Asia and if the League of Nations wasn't as institutionally racist Japan post World War 2 would have probably been one of the 3 untouchable global powers along with the USA and the British Empire.

Correction post World War 1, I said World War 2 sorry.

Nazi Germany once they kicked the jewish bankers out and started all over with a debt-free inflation-free currency

Ups and downs are rather common in history.

France went from best country in 1791 to worst in 1796 and they quickly revitalized.
The US were seriously in decadence on all levels including physical during the 70s.
Hungary or Croatia are getting their shit together after half a century of socialism.
China is...less bad than it was during the purge of its own culture and structure of production in the 50s-70s that makes the self-hatred of our SJW look like patriotism.
Venice also had ups and downs through its history.

The idea of unstoppable degeneracy is just the current meme with a pessimistic twist.

>Hungary or Croatia are getting their shit together after half a century of socialism

Is this a new meme?

Yes.

Byzantium had several periods of decline and reformation before it's demise.

Reconquista Spain.

>Christian Iberian Peninsula, things are cool.
>Some moors jump the strait and fuck our shit upfam.
>Lose all territory except some shit mountain ranges up north the moors were not even interested in that much.
>Pelayo shows up, reconquista time.
>Kick the moors, make way back to Gibraltar.
>Arrive to Granada, conquer the Alhambra itself.
> Kick moors and jews, conquer the New World, unify Spain, make an Empire.

All of this before they lost their colonies and went to shit again, of course.

>superior metal work

The Jewish people. Which after literal millenias of exile and oppression, somehow took back its ancient homeland in 1948.

i can feel the weeb vibes emanating from this post.

>somehow

I think the term you're looking for is "foreign intervention on an unprecedented scale"

America.

Our country tore itself apart in one of the most brutal civil wars in history and was well on its way to becoming a failed state like most of South America, but we pulled out of it and basically conquered the world a generation later.

>muh institutional racism

Why is it so hard for third-worlders to accept responsibility for the shit theyre in?

underrated post

Well then that's even better
Not only they got murdered and oppressed all the fucking time for hundreds and hundreds of years, and then somehow they managed to get those same oppressors to start "foreign intervention on an unprecedented scale" for them !
Which is impressive i mean you have to admit

China.

How was America able to right the ship and other Latin American countries couldn't?

Dude it was there and one of the reasons Japan got pissed. Hell it was close to Ethiopia because of that.

There is literally one (large) country in the world with the consumer base necessary to support its own economy, and it won't be that way forever. The American middle class literally keeps the world economy afloat with its consumption and it's shrinking.

Japan tried to build a middle class in the 80s-90s and failed. Abe is trying it again by strengthening the yen.

China is also attempting to build a middle class and whether or not they succeed will decide whether China becomes a superpower or has a regime change.

Curious to note that not one of you have any legitimate argument against this. I'm not a weeb, and yes "muh institutional racism" did exist in the early 1900's you fucking retard, learn some fucking history before you comment you cunt

It assumes that Japan was in a decline. In fact, I'd say that their "best" period is supposed to be right now, but they got unlucky. China had its time, and Japan should've had its time but it only a got short glimpse of what could've been a truly great period for Japanese history.

Japan can only be a truly dominant power if China and Russia (and America to a lesser extent) are simultaneously weak, whereas China and Russia have potential to be dominant regardless of neighboring countries' strength. While Japan did take advantage of this alignment in the late 19th century, it wasn't enough. Now, seeing as how even South Korea nowadays would be nigh impossible for Japan to conquer, Japanese reversal of their rapid decline is a tough sell.

The question was "Is there any historical instance of a society successfully stopping and reversing its own decline?"

Japan, after being a pretty advanced civilisation from the 700's to the 1400's at least, undoubtedly reversed a decline decline. The Meiji Restoration prompted Japan to pursue its own kind of industrial revolution. It had a standard of living unlike any other East Asian country. Japanese citizens in major cities like Yokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto etc during the early 1900's enjoyed a standard of living equal to those of people living in New York, London and Paris.

>In fact, I'd say that their "best" period is supposed to be right now

I don't know what you mean by this? Expand? In any case, relative to the time, after WW1 Japan could have been a "Superpower" in East Asia, in a time when colonialism wasn't frowned upon. It could have literally conquered most of South-East Asia (including the populous coastal China) if the League of Nations wasn't so Euro-Centric. The French had Vietnam and Cambodia. Britain had Hong Kong, India, Singapore, and Malaya. The Dutch has Indonesia. Why was it acceptable for the European powers to have colonies in East Asia but not Japan?

The answer lies in Geo-Politics first and foremost, but also in a belief in Europe that the Japanese race was inferior, ergo racism.

I replied to the wrong comment.
My response is below.

yes. secular Europe successfully stopped and reversed Christupidity

Meji Japan.

I mean the Tokugawa Shogun fucked things up towards the end although they tried to be progressive but the Emperor industrialized Japan.

Why do you hate God?

The Philippines under Duterte

The question is why does god hate me?

Because you're a fag

Found the Jew

Catholicism has over and over again.

Meiji era Japan

China throughout numerous periods of history, such as Ming dynasty, Xinhai revolution, communist revolution, and more recently Deng Xiaoping's reformation.

I don't think anyone will argue that WW2 was a war fought in the self defence of western morality against the putrid cancer of Jewish cultural marxism.

>There is also moral decline, such as seen in the Weimar Republic. Hence why Nazi Germany managed to reverse Germany's decline, both economically and morally.
The Weimar republic was far more morally upstanding than the third Reich. The Nazis were almost comically evil and degenerates par excellence. Naiz rule turned Germany into a spiteful, paranoid and treacherous den of oppression, and not the meme oppression of today's SJWs, the real oppression of despotism.

Purely in an economic sense. It has no millitary or soft power.

No joke but probably the UK. 2nd strongest economy, the most capable military, nukes, lots of soft power and a much larger diplomatic and intelligence network then anyone else.

got'eem

Spain didn't exist before the reconquista so that doesn't really count. That was the creation of a new power, not the revival of an old one.

>Abe is trying it again by strengthening the yen.

>nazi germany
>reversing decline

He asked in the EU user

Dunno about him. but I personally don't hate the fictional characters, but rather the people who take the fictional characters seriously enough to cause trouble for people who recognize the fiction for what it is.

I personally hate reading cringeworthy posts.

Lol. They haven't left quite yet though.

>muh war on drugs
>muh day of the rope
All he did was trash all the credibility and the last pretense of rule of law the Philippines had by declaring open season on everyone.
The end result will be thousands of poor people liquidated for no reason. As expected of a tax-evading millionaire who preaches that rice smugglers should be shot.

The two rules of atheism:

>God isn't real
>I hate Him

Right now. Trump and the United States.

>drug dealers
>people

>The economy was getting stronger alrady

It wasn't. The Germany economy under the Nazis was an unsustainable mess where all available resources were poured into the military. A big part of the reason for the Nazi "plunder everything" strategy was that they were desperately short on hard currency.

China under Deng Xiaoping stopped and reversed a 200-year decline, now they're on course to become the world's most powerful country.

Al Andalus was a lot more advanced than Gothic Iberia, Córdoba at one point even surpassed Constantinople for a century
Not disagreeing with you about Spain Rise to power, its just that Al Andalus wasn't a period of decline

Japan's problem is that they haven't tried hard enough at debasing the currency. Monetary policy has been far too tight.
A declining population and low female workforce participation doesn't help.

There was a book recently published by some butthurt Spaniard about how Al-andalus wasn't a great or tolerant as it is made out to be.

Al-andalus was once brilliant but had a period of decline which allowed the christfags to take over.

Nice God's Not Dead copypasta

HAHAHA

the fucking "muh china is coming" people are ludicrous

They hardly did anything, and most of what they did was economic waste.

Britain and the USA refused to accept Japan's racial equality clause in the Treaty of Versailles.
Basically Japan wanted to be equal but the Anglos were afraid it would then be applied to the darkies and curries.

Nice response

China stronk superpower by 2050 xaxaxaxaxa

It's kinda funny seeing history repeat itself here with Japan and China. An economically underdeveloped country uses the fact they can work for peanuts compared to the west combined with sabotaging their own currency leads to everyone proclaiming the doom of the West because these mysterious Orientals have special heathen brains that will make their line graphs go straight up forever. And all the fiction of the time portrays a future run by the then Japanese, now Chinese. And just like the Japanese before, the Chinese economy's hitting a wall because business people still haven't after 300 years of Economics as a discipline figured out that the line on the graph never goes up forever.

France has been a rollercoaster during all of his history it gets really strong after winning some important war and really weak after losing
Carolingian empire-> HRE bitch -> strongest country of europe (after 100 years war) -> spain's bitch (italian wars) -> strongest country of europe (30 years war) -britain's bitch (7 years war)-> strongest country of europe (french revolution) ->germany/prussia's bitch (napoleonic wars)

>what is visigothic kingdom

A combination of a powerful central government, large immigration that provided a large workforce, a common national identity, a better climate for both feeding the population and industry, and a lack of neighbors who could in any way pose a threat.

>one of the most brutal civil wars in history

>someone says he doesn't believe muh god is real
>but none can believe that for I believe he's real
>therefore he's lying to me, he's just angry at him

yes, I enjoyed buying my atheist books at Maastricht church. thks

Also, Washington doesn't have any American embassy.

>The Nazis made Germany the largest industrial producer in Europe

Rome, twice
You can argue they are still around with the Vatican

If the Vatican is all that's left of the glory of Rome, they might as well be considered dead
>t. A Devout Roman Catholic

Yeah, kinda sad desu. Looking at the crippled life support potato that is left.

If anything they slowed it down with their bullshit.

Spain after the muslims
Japan after WW2
Rome after the Julio-Claudian family bullshit

i'm a croat and sry, but croatia doesn't get it shit together
everywhere corruption, lobbyism and economic decline

the only pro is the tourism

Stop pissing off your neighbors so much that they run into the arms of the US and then we'll talk Wang.
