Sega admits they've made a lot of mistakes with Sonic, so I'm not ready to give up on the possibility that they're willing to work with Archie Comics sometime in the future

What is /sthg/'s consensus on Sonic's fanfics or fanfics in general? The times I've spent with generals, most people appreciate art more than written fanfiction. So I'd like to know how you guys feel about it. I've never been a fan of fanfics unless it's based on a lore that I enjoy like Guild Wars, but aside from that, I can safely say that I don't follow any fanfics.

I enjoy the odd fanfic.
If I want to read some though I prefer to find ones that are finished so I don't have to wait for updates.

I enjoy writing, and as such I've done a few fanfics, though not recently.
The problem is, there's so so so so SO many bad ones that just make you want to kill yourself that the very term "fanfic" puts people off immediately, especially if you put Sonic in it.
I've always been tempted to look at the writefag wall and have a shot at something, as a way to pass the time if nothing else.

Fanfic plots feel inherently stilted to me and I think the writer's time would be better spent writing something completely original

With how badly many fics butcher the characterization I would rather see one full of OCs instead of some badly written Sonic/Amy romance crap
I like Sonic fanfiction but I hate that there's such a dearth of stories that aren't grossly out of character.
