Bike school ride 6/8:
Forgot my boots today; rode in normal shoes, no special difference in feel or heat/cold. (Tucked laces for fear of catastrophe.)
Today's lesson was riding cones on parking lot. Listened to the lot's wisdom once, figure 8, pulled the throttle as I fell, some scratches, thankfully most caught by the replaceable fuckup-bar on the side. Spooked myself good, instructor got choleric but I took it all better than I expected, and was back on the bike within 2 minutes.
After the fuckup, I again understood a little more about the throttle, clutch, and gear 1. Two more rides to go, one tomorrow before work, the other on Saturday before work. I really wish we had had this extensive slow-riding training BEFORE going into traffic.
Interestingly, slowly turning left gives me no trouble, while right my body just goes fully cramped and defensive, it’s because of the throttle on the right, isn’t it? Two more rides to go, then exam on 30th.

Signing up for an MSF course, what should I be expecting?
I'll probably be trained on a Harley to start off just FYI. Harley HQ is like 20 min from my house.

Don't listen to him.
The rider courses give you protips on how to ride in traffic and all sorts of nuanced little things that you can't just "learn" until after you get in an accident.
Also they should let you drop their bikes without issue unless they're dicks and you're getting ripped off so the classes are a great way to learn without worrying about dumping your bike.

I started out by just buying a shit bike and riding it around my block a few days before i got comfortable to just ride it where ever i wanted, its fucking easy.

All motorcycles at any MSF course anywhere ever will have 250cc 4-strokes or less. Expect a mix of Ninja 250's Honda Rebels, 200cc chinese dual sports and maybe a Grom.

I'm the cheapest bastard I know but all the bikes I see on craigslist that are cheap are Japanese cruisers (who fucking buys those anyways) and Ninjas or 90's sports bikes that have been dropped a dozen times. I want a bike that can go places my shitbox sedan cannot and is at least moderately quick. But most of all must cost like 2 grand tops.

So this might be a stupid question but when I go to buy a motorcycle from a dealership, how the hell am I supposed to have the bike insured before I even know what one I am getting? Insurance is required by law here so I don't know how it all works..doesn't that shit take 2-3 days to get approved

What country are you in? Here in the UK, you can buy insurance over the phone and they'll email you're documents to you within minutes, you're insured as soon as you've paid.
