Muramasa is one of those games you can texthook pretty early on and stumble through to get the gist since the writing tends to be clear, but it'd take years to fully appreciate all aspects of it at a satisfactory, unassisted pace. In short it's all up to your standers: Months if you're okay taking a dump on it, years if you're not.

I dunno. As i said, I read after about 9 months of texthooking and really enjoyed it. I don't think I lost much. The only part where i just skipped was the infamous Noah play. Other parts were fine. History infodumps were difficult though.

I've learned from looking around that people really overestimate their Japanese, or underestimate how much they lose from having shitty Japanese, because there's so many damn beginners reading shit like Subahibi even as their first VN. I've accepted that not as the "wrong" thing to do, just as an alien way of thinking to me, so I won't say he should put off Muramasa or anything, I just wanted to ensure that the dude who asked knew that the person he was talking to wasn't properly reading Muramasa after 7-8 months of texthooking. That'd give him the wrong idea.
The thing about these texthookers is that they skip over what they don't understand without much of a second thought. That's why they always emerge thinking "they didn't lose too much", because they just skipped everything they didn't comprehend.

SubaHibi is a fairly good beginner VN. Maybe not first but 3rd or so is fine. Not really comparable to something like Muramasa on the level of "missing out".

That's a pretty huge assumption.

There are plenty of people who use texthookers just to get at a kanji/word they don't know (and hopefully add it to a mining deck in Anki or something). At the end of the day, a texthooker is only as good as the person using it is since you still need to know the grammar and a good amount of vocab unless you want to be looking up every other word in the dictionary.

How much did you try? Fun fact: just being scared of kanji isn't trying.

I don't digg their onomatopoeia. If I see two words one after another meaning essentially the same(like ずるずると引きずっている) , I just don't bother looking the nuances.

Also, what's wrong with skipping this Noah play? The characters mentioned and commented the important bits from it(and background) anyway.

The thing about "guessing from context" is that you'll be pretty consistently wrong, at least as often as you're right. And that's even when you're aware you're guessing from context and not just plain skipping over a sentence without properly parsing it.
