I've never played any mods for any of the STALKER games, where do I even start?

I just installed AMK and it freezes in the very beginning about halfway when talking to the trader, I cant seem to find anything online about this. So what do I do?

IIRC, AMK uses 1.0004 (the versions i've played, at least). but it probably differs depending on the version.

Check the readme's for the mod and see what version it says to use. if the downgrade isn't included there it should be in the OP.

I remember getting this in SoC. It has to do with some setting with the sun/how shadows are drawn. I think it's an r_something value.

it's not that, the shadows are fine, but in some areas, it's like there is an overlay on the screen. but there really isnt. fuckin wierd.

That sounds like it would be the shaders, but what do I know. I know what you're seeing, though.

yeah pretty much like that, initially i thought it was some screwy textures, but it stayed with the screen when looking away at other stuff (it was most noticeable on dirt/gravel, bricked areas like in the ss i posted.)

either way just irked me, i'm going to try hdao next time i fire it up and see if it still happens.

Which mods are you using? I've actually found that SSAO error on most of the shader packs I tested on my system.

I edited the shaders manually to get rid of it.

Sid dialog crashes are usually patch version mismatch. Just drop to 1.0004 and play it that way instead of fighting it with 1.0005.
