delete last two mufflers on a sc400 and it sounds even better than that. Very smooth idle sound and it has a subtle scream (hard to describe) at high rpms.

That's exactly what I did. My car is fine. I bought this MGM for 1800, no issues whatsoever.
Granted, that's a good bit more than 1000, but this thing is in excellent shape and has every available option for the year.
