I think you just got unlucky, I bought a 75 280z in Orange for $6500. Little to no rust, paint is a bit shit, runs like new, no carpets in the interior but besides that nearly pristine. Also since it's 75 it's still smog exempt. Keep looking, you'll find a good one in no time.
