Veeky Forums convinces me to get a manual

>Veeky Forums convinces me to get a manual
>it's the most fun I've had in years

Thank you based Veeky Forums

You're welcome pal, anytime.

I know this feel
>3 years
>hills
>stop and go traffic
>light clutch
>never a problem

Now learn the launch it. Erections will ensue

pic related? :D

This board had a paradigm shift where people, notably Civic drivers and busriders shitpost about fun/performance cars all day and legitimately think automatic FWD econoboxes are enthusiast cars. Either that or they'll a vocal minority of shitposters.

>they'll
They're. I think I'm morphing into a chink

>automatic FWD econoboxes are enthusiast cars.
depends on the car in question. In general, you're right. However, I'll give a pass to a FWD car with a DCT automatic, like the Volkswagen GTI, VW Beetle Turbo, and Acura ILX.

>That gearstick
>I know that gearstick

It's a good feel. FiST is a fantastic car senpai

>be diesel
>traffic
>massive turbo lag
>first gear redlines at like 15mph
>absolutely nothing below 2000rpm
>absolutely nothing above 4000rpm
>sensitive as fuck throttle

Have to choose between the car screaming along at redline just to keep up with traffic jams, or constantly go first to second and back. Tiny adjustments of the throttle in first gear make the car lurch around and look like you don't know how to drive.

It's even worse when the engine is cold and the car can't decide if it wants to idle at 800rpm or 1100rpm, because sometimes you'll have the radio on and not hear the engine, expect its at 800rpm like usual but you let the clutch out and almost annihilate the car in front because muh high idle.

Traffic is suffering, but its more than worth it for manuel desu.

Your car is fucked.

>diesel
found the problem.

Let me guess, it's a VW

When you have to piss in the exhaust then stick is the least of your problems.

diesels are absolute shit at rpms right above idle.
dad's 1.4 civic chugs up our steep driveway at 700 rpm in second gear, while mum's 2.0 diesel rav4 has to be shifted into first and ride the clutch.

My car? I just leave it D

Anyone tried this with a diesel? Is it enough urea to substitute DEF?

>VW Beetle turbo

Most underappreciated car on this board. Thank you based user.

>2008
>drive my friend's manual Jeep since he's drunk as a skunk
>fun as all fuck

That's the last time I drove a manual, but I really want one now.

I meant the 2012+ cars, but the older New Beetle Turbos are awesome.

>get a manual
>end up developing early-onset RA rapidly
>stuck with a car I'm unable to drive because of the pain

dat background

>decide to buy first manual car
>buy 2014 Civic EX coupe with 5 speed
>lots of fun, really makes the little 1.8L feel peppy
>one day get speeding ticket for doing 8 over
>immediately kills any fun of shifting and feel like going back to automatic

>worrying about the cops

it's not about the cops, it's about my insurance premium going up and paying a ticket

>How to fuck your drivetrain 101.

But yeah, its tons of fun.

Is your clutch 200lbs or how does that even happen

It's in my right hand and wrist

Thanks to Veeky Forums I got myself the 5 speed Civic instead of the automatic. Fun to drive, amazing gas mileage, got an intake to improve induction sound.

pic related, mine.

>intake to improve induction sound

Son, its not an SI

I dont see the purpose, but if it makes you happy then fuck it, Dun matter

>not an Si

no shit, doesn't mean I can't improve the interior sound a bit. Not like I got myself some fart can exhaust

Test drove one a few months ago and it genuinely put a smile on my face.

...

Import an r32. Shift with left hand. Problem solved.

To be fair, at least he acknowledged the intake doesn't add any power.

My lil bro.

Should I get the 2016 Civic manual or get a 9th gen? I really love the way pic related looks, just needs different wheels.

B.C. plates, your town/city out of gas yet?

Depend what your intentions are. If it was a toss up between a new 2016 or a used low mileage Si, I would choose the 9th gen Si all day long.

No Si, I want an econobox that drinks 87 octane with lower insurance premiums.

Ah I see, then a 2016 Civic is a good choice. That or a Mazda 3.

>first car was a manual
>a corolla
>had some fucking weird problem where after the car warmed up the car wouldn't idle anymore, just stall
>every time I stopped in traffic I had to hold in clutch with left foot and both brake and accelerator with right foot to keep engine reving
>hate the car with a passion
>run it into the ground by not giving it oil so it seizes the engine
>buy auto
>feels good man

>Corolla
>manual

There's your problem. Toyota manuals are probably worse than Hyundai

Same, burnt the shit out of my first clutch(had 90k miles on it when I bought it first manual) took it too a good mechanic that set up a new clutch just right and I'm on 117k right now running almost as good as when it got installed, thanks Veeky Forums.

Sidenote, bitches love it, they're really dumb and think it's super complicated every first date where I drive it's "omg user u drive stick shift, it revs so loud/it's so fast(Kek econo box hatch with 160hp)

Sorry to hear that man.

I don't think he's saying driving stick made him develop RA, he's saying he's upset because he developed RA and he can't drive stick anymore you fucking idiot

my nigga

Good guess as its a VAG product, its an Audi.

Thats odd I used to drive an 09 corolla hatch, transmission was way nicer than the hyandai i30 of the same year.

user I'm in the same boat, it's great for first dates
If it's going well I'll grab their hand and row through the years with it
>it actually works

>Launching a 2wd
>fucking a drivetrain

maybe if you drive around on slicks and dump the clutch every time like a retard...

Take off in second then, problem solved.

>diesels are absolute shit at rpms right above idle

If you have a shitbox, yeah.

Modern turbo diesels are superb. Mine has a variable vane snail shell and it makes peak torque at like 1.5k rpm through to 4k flat where it drops off.
The gears are fairly long too & with the torque there is no issue.

>dad's 1.4 civic chugs up our steep driveway at 700 rpm
Put it into 1st? that's retardedly low rpms

It's not attractive if you drive an econobox like , is it? Or are they dumb enough to believe it's fast?

>Tiny adjustments of the throttle in first gear make the car lurch around

This is true in literally any car. At lower speed the engine needs less power to change in velocity. First gear is short.

Clutch partially back in if pulling away, whether you're stationary or rolling at 5mph.

lol

I've been looking to trade or buy a decent car with a manual on craigslist but most of them have been driven by 16 year olds and ran into the ground.

bump

must suck being poor huh :/
