Objectively speaking, what is, in your opinion the greatest car manufacturer(s) of all time?
If you have more than one, list them in ranking. Why are they at that position of your list? What do you like/dislike about them?
My list: 1. Nissan I like Nissan as a company, even though they make fairly boring cars now, in the 90's I think they were king. Partnership with Renault has allowed them to expand financially as well, they also making a lot of headway in new technologies and engineering in general (Autonomous cars, still making a *Flagship* car, etc.)
2. BMW Not really much to say here, I think they make good, solid cars that fit all purposes, fairly refined, nice build quality, not the most interesting cars to drive, but not everyone cars about "Muh driving feels" so whatever.
3.Ford/GM Old company with grassroots. Great selection of different cars. Great sounding V8's. Not too keen on the reliability aspect, but recently they've been making some cool cars that are just really fun to drive; Fiesta ST, Focus RS, etc...

Ford. GM is shit.
Kayden Nelson
Ford > * dat ecoboost

desu senpai, they only reached 3rd place because Toyota haven't made the FT-1 a thing. YET....

Ford, definitely

1. Mitsubishi It's not really rooted in logic, it's just the car company i have the most love for. If you were to find one great thing about mitsu is that it has the best history of any company. Instead of building a car industry like for did, mitsubishi built THE IDEA of industry in Japan. It's the reason for Japan being a 1st world country today. 2. Ford. Badassery, v8, loud noises, Detroit 3. Alfa Romeo I'm just a sap for cars with soul. Arguably the most beautiful cars of all time, followed up by lancia. 4. Ferrari Racing history

The only correct answer is Toyota. Absolutely legendary off-road and street vehicles on its resumè. It's an automotive juggernaut, and has managed to offer very well built and reliable everyday cars as well as purpose built vehicles that have had a huge influence on automotive culture.
Toyota has always been on the cutting edge in terms of innovation, and continues to uphold this trend even today.
Notable vehicles:
-Hilux
-Land Cruiser
-4Runner/Hilux Surf
-MR2
-Supra
-Celica (JDM legend in its early days especially)
-Corrolla (because its the best selling vehicle of all time)
-Tercel 4wd (because its just awesome
Technology you can thank Toyota for:
-Hybrids
-Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology
-QR codes
-a ton more shit that I can't be bothered to list
Toyota is all around the GOAT.
And calling this post "bait" will not invalidate it, so don't bother
Jordan Hill
While I can't knock Toyota for certain things and I don't debate they were/are a major and influential part of car history, the second part of your post is rather unsubstantiated >-QR codes Well sort of, it's indirectly tied back to Toyota but they did not create them directly. >-Hybrids No. This was done by Porsche first way before any of us were even born. Then brought to the common people by Honda almost 100 years later. Toyota just know how to copy things the right way. >-Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology Again, no. This was done by Ford first. >-a ton more shit that I can't be bothered to list Which is why you didn't list them because you couldn't think of any. This statement means nothing.
Now, things they DID pioneer was a very efficient production system, while Ford made what most would call the "modern" production line, Toyota was able to refine it and make it more efficient.
For my GOAT car manufacturers I'd have to say these, in no particular order: Ford: Modern production lines, truly a world-class company. Mercedes-Benz - While not in their current form they essentially pioneered the first true car. Sure Cugnot's steam tractor could technically be called a car but they don't exist today and it was highly impractical. Other than that they have a long history and have been deeply ingrained in culture for decades.
Other than that, I really can't think of any that deserve to be called the greatest of all time. While there are many that have offered small innovations or brought something new to the car scene, they're all just different takes on the same two things listed above: 1: Create a car, 2: Mass produce it.
Again not knocking any other company, they have all done some amazing things but just not as huge of milestones.

Forgot FR-S

>Well sort of, it's indirectly tied back to Toyota but they did not create them directly. Denso is a Toyota group company

>greatest manufacturer
ez pz, Lambo
>doesn't participate in shitty racing series for tryhards >makes the brutal auto >father of the supercar
You're a clueless faggot for having nissan at 1, literal shit.

>Porsche Primarily makes proper, affordable, reasonably styled driver's cars with great interiors. Also have the only [also reasonably priced] super car that can be DD'd. Not really much to say, they've done everything right except for not boosting the Cayman to its supercar flagship (2 seat MR > 4 seat RR) >Lexus Luxury done properly; no badgewhoring nonsense, no OMG SHINY CHROME BLUE LEDS SUCH TECHNOLOGY WOW nonsense shitting up the interiors, doesn't cost a fortune to buy or run and at this point has easily surpassed its German competitors. Also really good leather seats. >Mazda Basically the only Japanese make left still producing quality ecnoboxes given Honda, Toyota [despite my accolades for Lexus] and Nissan have gone down the shitter in the last 10-15 years. The econoboxes themselves look decent, still have windows, are relatively engaging to drive and still have good interiors (ESPECIALLY opposing modern Honda). Also of course despite 17 year old contrarian dickwads yelling HURR GAY at everything, the Miata is still a legendary car that's amazing to drive, especially for its price. >Ford Not much to say, they've really gotten it together over the last four years and produce decent econoboxes in a time where Japanese econoboxes are declining sharpy in quality and then of course we have another legendary car, the Mustang GT. (1/2)
Jeremiah Gray
As a group? Fiat, no doubt.
>has legendary cars in its history >owns Alfa, which in turn has made legendary cars >owns Lancia, which has also made legendary cars >owns Maserati, which has made probably the most beautiful cars ever >owns Ferrari, which is the definitive brand of supercars
Prove me wrong.
Nolan Mitchell
Dishonorable mentions: >Honda Their cars overall have become pigfat with some of the absolute worst interiors I've ever seen. Not only this but the driverbase is uncontested in being obnoxious shitheads that will shit up any discussion about cars at even the allusion of their riced out shitbox Civic not being a hypercar. I mean just look at this fucking interior. I will concede the new Civic's interior is the first good one since 05, but still, pic related is just disgusting. >Toyota See above, but to a lesser degree. At least they still make a sports car, even if it's really a Subaru >Infiniti Killed off their last good car (G37) for a numb, electronic-ridden overpriced pile of shit (Q50) >Buick What the fuck is GM even doing with this? Who even makes the conscious decision to a buy a Buick besides some idiot who wanders into a dealership and is sweet-talked into leasing one >BMW Had two straight generations of decent driver's cars (E46/E90), F30 has become a pigfat and numb turd in pursuit of laptimes. >Mercedes Benz The reason why Chrysler went to shit and responsible for the 25 year import law >Ferrari The only company with extreme levels of douchebaggery shared by its driverbase. You don't buy a Ferrari to drive one, you buy it to tell people you own a Ferrari.
Samuel Edwards
>four Meant few but whatever.
Samuel Cooper
Ford is a piece of shit

>owns Ferrari No it doesn't. Not a single one of any of those companies has made a good car under Fiat ownership.

>#1. GM The 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS is in my opinion the greatest car ever made. Badass V8, beautiful styling, and reliable af. >#2. Honda Legendary reliability and economical cars make them the bread and butter of cars. >#3. BMW German engineering for excellent power and style.
Henry Harris
this FCA has cars for everyone, from the Enthusiast to the soccer mom or to people who just want from A to B - all with the best styling and great performance.

At first glance I could've swore that was a standard transmission
Then I saw the paddle shifters and thought "What in the everloving fuck?"
Then I took a look at the shifter again

Citroen, when they were still independent have produced some of the most iconic cars. They're definitely up there.
Henry White
>owns Alfa, which in turn has made legendary cars Legendary or not they're all slower than the Ford GT. >owns Lancia, which has also made legendary cars Inferior to Ford. >owns Maserati, which has made probably the most beautiful cars ever Inferior to Ford. >owns Ferrari, which is the definitive brand of supercars No, it doesn't.
tl;dr: ford>fca
Justin Brown
always Lancia. Although, it's best to have the company dead rather than being beaten as a dead horse with Marchionne on top, fellating to Alfas, it had some good history for the cars their produced. something like Italian TVRs but better >fantastic rally history >beautiful, iconic cars like the Stratos, Fulvia, 037, Delta Integrale Evo, etc. >loads of mechanical innovations >always experimenting unfortunately, they went downhill when they can't produce a lot of cars especially with it's silly price tags they put on their cars with the lack of support when they were starting out.
Ford if we're talking Euro Ford. Best hatchbacks ever made there like the Fiestas, Cosworths and Focus. The mk1/mk2 Escorts they made had sone of the best engine sounds ever. Helps that they're quite good cars as well
Joshua Wilson
Well it sits at the top of the "most innovative" list so obviously there are more innovations than listed
Adam Ramirez
Mercedes-Benz. What have they ever not excelled at?
Owen Stewart
>The reason why Chrysler went to shit Chrysler have been shit since the '70s. They were the ones who dragged down Daimler in the '90s, not the other way around, and to this day they're still mooching off old Daimler platforms because they still haven't come up with anything better.
>responsible for the 25 year import law No, your corporate cuck government is.

Mine has about 180,000 miles on it right now. Not a single problem. My dad has 370,000 on his E-Class. All he's ever replaced was a wheel mount and shocks.
Mercedes are solid as fucking hell.
Joshua Carter
They used to. Old Mercedes Benz cars are indestructible. Luxury back then meant premium engineering and quality, not so much gadgetry.
>GM unparalleled history with maybe 20-30 ultra shitty years but has made a phenomenal comeback. if they haven't fully come back by 2025, they become the world's most comical car company. still managed to make decent lemonade during its shitty years.
>Daimler needs no explanation
>Honda needs no explanation

the only time ford hasn't played second fiddle to GM is today
>of all time not today
all shit and unreliable with middlingly relevant history at best. paper thin margins and teetering on the edge of destruction and would in fact be over that edge if not for jeep/ram
honda/GM/daimler
good answer
>porsche 911 makes a shit argument for itself in the era of the new camaro and vette. vette is a better daily, only loss vs the 911 is no AWD which will be remedied shortly
but porsche is still a great car
>lexus not a manufacturer, but toyota is up there. prefer honda myself
>ford always been second fiddle to gm except the last 10 years max and a brief period wherein lincoln outperformed cadillac (but in an era when neither company was worth dog shit)
>mazda is phenom. would not label as one of the goats though
