Daily

Okay guys I have a real question.

I used to daily a 2004 350z (pic related). It was fast, fun, and handled like a dream. The way the car would effortlessly glide around corners was addicting. It was so easy and so much fun to drive it fast. Until it rained. And thats a big problem because I live in Seattle. The car felt completely unstable if there was any moisture on the ground, and every once in a while it would break traction in stupid places; scaring the shit out of me. I tried getting better tires, and no I'm not a shit tier driver.

So I decided RWD wasn't for me to dd, and FWD doesn't fit my driving style. That leaves AWD, so I sold my 350z and got a 2006 WRX about a year ago.

Awesome car, a blast to drive, and the Subaru guys out here are great. But there's just one problem. No matter how much I try, I just can't get this car to float around corners like my Z would! Yeah big shocker I know.

Anyways my question is: Is there an AWD car that is able to glide around corners like my Z did? Is there any AWD vehicle out there that will give me the same sense of confidence?

not really

i dont understand your logic for not just getting what you enjoy

awd is a rich person feture that is just more shit that could break anyone who launches an awd car that they own does so knowing they are ruining the car every time they do it

R32 GT-R
You can even add a kill switch for the ATTESA for when it's dry.

GC8 WRX STI Type-R or RA
You can lock the rear diff to 65% for drift mode

OP here. Well I outlined my reasoning for picking AWD, more of a process of elimination really.

The body roll I feel when going around corners is unsettling, and there's an uncomfortable amount of understeer. I can take corners almost just as fast as in my Z, but I am shitting myself the whole way! In the Z I could flick the car around corners really quick and know exactly where my limits were.

I got rid of the Z because DDing RWD + Seattle weather = sadness. Also the car was really fucking small and I couldn't fit anything in it. Then the only cupholder broke. Awesome awesome car, and I wish I could have kept it, but it was no good for me to daily. Would make a PERFECT second car though.

Skyline GTR. Way out of your price range though, but it's Awd with rear bias.

Unlike the 35, it's good at tighter corners

OP again. I should add that I have a price limit of whatever I can sell the Subaru for. Probably around 10,000.

Pic related.

how about you improve the undesireable aspects of your car instead of spending a shitload of money

or if you just want an expensive new car just own up and say it instead of the mental gymnastics to validate such an irresponsible decision

> Is there any AWD vehicle out there that will give me the same sense of confidence?

Not unless you are willing to spend way more than $10k. Given your budget you already have the best option for an AWD car.

I don't see how selling the Z for a WRX is an irresponsible decision, as the Subaru is just as much of a car as the Nissan.

I guess I should be more clear on what I had in mind.

>AWD
>Nice cornering feel
>$10,000
>Preferably Japanese make, for reliability and cheap parts

I'm not entirely sure where to start looking, as I'm not sure if the different handling feel is primarily due to the AWD or the economy car roots of the WRX.

>I'm a little bitch who can't handle RWD in the rain
Get good, faggot. Thousands of people in the Pacific Northwest daily RWD cars year-round.

>economy car roots of the WRX

also

>350z

>fast

get some real tires faggot. my wet grip is superb with summer tires

perhaps the better option would be to get adjustable suspension and take it to a shop to set it up the way you like

There were other reasons than just the RWD for me getting rid of the Z. And I'm not a shitty driver, I used to do once a month track days with some coworkers, so I knew my way around the car well

Yes the IMPREZA wrx has roots in an economy car, and the handling sure doesn't benefit from being designed as a compact 4 door family car.
The WRX is still great though, and I'm not playing it down. I knew what I was buying when I got it.

I loved the 350z a lot and honestly someday I'll probably own another one.

Back to the topic, and away from the shitposting. What makes a good handling AWD car? Are there any cheaper examples?

differential tuning. front/mid/rear biases

It's a little bit more expensive, but is the G37X Coupe good?

Has rear bias

>heavier than the sedan

Would an STI feel significantly different from my WRX? Or would it just feel like a faster, quicker stopping version of what I have now?

Decent suspension tuning

Add a some negative camber, bigger swaybars, and at least STi shocks/springs. Or just buy a Lancer Evolution.

>remove two doors and lower the roofline
>become heavier
What? How?

He's not wrong, look it up.

So was that a yay or a nay on the G37X being able to float around corners? I've never driven one

Well, an AWD system for starters. Assuming it comes with the Metal Folding Roofing.

>falken
Found the problem. How about buying decent tyres?

Korean engineering.
Shitposting aside, it's probably because they don't give a fuck. Often times, companies will offer coupes just because of the aesthetic difference, not because of performance and they only design them to look a ceratin way. Then they might turn out heavier. Even Mercedes did this with the W124.

>Wont daily RWD

Are you some kind of faggot, the Z33 is probably the most fun car to drive in the rain.

I live in the UK and as it's raining all the fucking time, there is no other car I would want to drive.

It's stable in fucking torrential downpours on the motorway, and still have a nice flat torque curve that you can kick the arse when you want to, it's literally drifting on easymode.

>The car felt completely unstable if there was any moisture on the ground
>t-trust me I tried good tires!
>I-i'm a good driver!
K Y S
Get some actual decent tires instead of off brand all seasons and learn to drive.

To fix the body roll just chuck some coilovers on it should handle better around corners too.

instead of running away from your car's problems by selling it why don't you actually work on it to fix what you don't like?

on the 350z you could've easily fitted better tires and gotten over your problem, or y'know, drive carefully in the rain.

I've never had any problems with my falkens, but they're 265/35/18 all the way around.

in the STI you could fit some coilovers and upgrade the sway bars/add a strut brace for cheap and make it handle how you want.

the g35x and 37x part time 4wd only sends torque to the front when it detects need, meaning strong acceleration or rear slippage. Assuming you can turn off the ESP, you could get those fun drifts on good days, then turn it back on for poor conditions.

>hurr durr i'm an idiot that drives on wet roads as if they were dry

I have a 350z myself, just don't drive it in the wet like its dry you retard, I'm in Scotland and I'll bet we get a lot more rain than you do.

Failing that, get a R32/33/34. Escort Cosworth, Alfa Romeo Brera q4, Lancia Delta integrale are other notable mentions

This. The only thing you get out of a coupe is style.

this would be the smart decision as it would be like a 5th of the price of a new car

but op is stupid and stubborn so let him throw his money away

>needs awd to drive in seattle

lel

Audi TT is the AWD 350z

>autism the car

>not G35 awd coupe

You're a special sort of stupid aren't you?

That's a full sized sedan m8

maybe he needs AWD to go skiing outside Seattle

Took me awhile to be comfortable with RWD here in Cascadia. I just feather the throttle in bad weather & drive like a white man. Rain, Snow, doesn't matter I just take my time & piss off every SUV and Truck around me.

Unfortunately, you're not going to get the same feel you got from the Z as you do with an AWD, non staggered, never lose grip, transfer power to other wheels setup. Never.
