Speaking from my experience, which is really all people can on this subject, I've met maybe 3 or 4 women who actually were invested in cars and weren't just "tagging along" or acting the part.

Anecdotal no doubt, but there's a reason why this stereotype of fake car girls being so prevalent in the car community among other technical hobbies. It wouldn't exist if it wasn't true on some level.

There's tons of fakes in every technical field, men and women. They're all scum.

Because when roughly 50% of the population of the planet wants to fuck you, that means a lot of people throw their attention at you without you having to do anything. So, it's easier for women to be happy investing their time hobbies and activities that result in utilizing that positive intention.

Because they don't have to. They're raised to believe they are princesses who deserve attention, entertainment, and anything else they want on command. The few women I've met who were "into cars" are some of the cringiest attention whores that I've ever met. They all seem to love purple cars and stupid decals on them that tell you it's a girl's car. Two of them had cars paid for with daddy's money and, when asked about a mod, knew nothing about what was under the hood.
