Tfw you fell for the change your own oil meme

>tfw you fell for the change your own oil meme

Lol nigga I got into this because I like working in c

Fuck you senpai

Pretty much how I felt the first time I changed the oil on my RB26

>filter located under the surge tank
>surrounded by vacuum lines
>once you actually get it off, oil drops fucking everywhere
>can't clean it all up because axles
Seriously what the fuck Nissan

>tfw oil changes are easy as fuck on the 240
feels gud

My subaru has the oil filter on top of the engine. It's nice not having hot oil run down your arm.

Even if it's a bitch to change I wouldn't trust some dumbass lube tech to do it correctly.

>buy good synthetic brands on sale and filters
>bring to local mechanic
>does it for 20$
>mfw i dont have to take a pan and then return the old oil or lift my car to access the 2 drain bolts

always do this, buy syhtnethic mobil 1 5w30, filter, and take it to the walmart lube shop to have them change it.

Also, now i always ask that once its drained, they let me pour in the new oil as they always overfill it for some reason

i'm a lazy fuck, i bought an oil pump

>put pump in engine
>let it run for about 15 minutes, playing video games/watching porn/cleaning the interior
>remove the pump
>remove the filter located on top of the engine
>put new filter
>screw cap
>pour new oil in
Done

And I even found a shop that will take care of the used oil for hot pockets

iktf

>he doesn't have a fumoto
>he needs to lift his car to drain oil
>he doesn't know you can return used oil to where you bought it and they have to take it without charging you
>he doesn't know that you can even take oil to any gas station and they'll take it
>he'd rather pay a faggot to put oil in his car
>he'd likely even pay the greasemonkey to fuck his wife for him
>being this cucked and still posting on Veeky Forums
You're all busriders to me.

>want to change oil
>valve covers are leaking slightly
>don't want to waste all that oil if its just going to leak out anyway

>mfw i fell for the mechanics meme
lerl

>And I even found a shop that will take care of the used oil for hot pockets

>not pouring your used oil down the drain

>tfw changing oil on Accord is easy
>replacing the starter is a bitch

Why does Honda do this?

I just pour mine in my beater truck that big bitch eats a quart a every few Miles

How could you POSSIBLY fuck up changing oil?

>car burns oil
>just add another quart of oil gradually over the course of a month or two at a time
>never do an oil change

Never underestimate stupidity

just use thicker oil?

>FC oilchange
>filter is right there
>drain bolt is right there

Oil spills all over the side of the engine. Only car ive ever owned that made me consider a filter relocation kit.

I have a bad cylinder ring, but it's just bad enough that it's not worth tearing the engine apart

>have WRX
>oil filter in impossible sharp deep hot area of doom
>still dont want a fucking normie "technician" to touch my car anyways
feels bad man

>tfw the filter is located near the top of the engine and there is no special tool required for removal

Because you don't replace your starter every 10-15k kilometers/miles.

return old oil?
i pour it on my neighbours lawn wherever it looks greener than mine does.

>just add another quart of oil gradually over the course of a month or two at a time

Holy shit how much oil does your car eat?

>mfw I work at Subaru and Normie's still come in for oil changes on their wrx and stis

You have a retards mentality if you think this

That doesn't fix a leak you fuck.
Holy fucking sludge. Keep killing your engine

>not applying the oil to the under carriage to prevent rust

>mfw the filter is located approximately 5 inches from the drain plug
Thank you based Honda.

>mfw header so tight to oil filter that you can't get any tools in to loosen it

Thanks, hedman

>not using reclaimed transformer oil

Enjoy your spark plugs everywhere

so.. are they gay?

>drive Fiat
>oil changes itself
>just have to pour in a litre every 500 miles

Not him but my XJ takes a gallon of oil every 2500 miles or so

That's with the europoor 2.5 diesel though.
>iwn have a 4.0 AMC in my xj

> Spend hours on my back under the car
> Wrenched a shoulder trying to unfasten the drain plug; it was torqued with more force than my bodyweight, so I had to do a pull-up on it and bounce until it moved
> Oil all over my face from the wind blowing it
> Oily stains all over my jeans from wiping my hands on them

But I saved like £50 in someone else's labour, and I get to keep the tools I bought. Next time, I might be able to do it without buying tools.
I sure as hell won't need to buy oil; I had no idea how much it took, and bought two gallons just in case. It took one, so I have another spare.

You DO change the filter yearly, right?

I have not yet figured out how to take care of old oil, though, so it sits in the garage in old oil bottles for now, with the used cooking oil.
Maybe I'll just ask my friendly local mechanics if they can just tip them into their waste oil tank.

>XJ/MJ
>anything but the BASED FUCKING FOUR-POINT-OH with the filter right fucking there on the side and easy to access drain plug
If you got the 2.8L V6 you deserve it, if it came with the Pukegoat manual on it too then just KYS.

>tfw pickup truck so never have to lift it to change oil

I've actually been doing this because I have a leaking seal in front of the crankshaft and i lose about 10 drops of oil every time I stop the engine

>b5 a4 2.8 needs 6 quarts of fill synthetic
>costs $100 at valvoline
>do it at home
>costs $40

They made it so easy to change the oil on my car, in my dads 90s honda shit was super difficult

I just pay my mechanic $30 to do it. I don't have time and don't really care to do it myself. I'd rather spend that time on other things.

>parents wont let you change your oil
One day I'll own a car

>drive glorious ls400
>I could squeeze my head in the area where the oil filter is
>room everywhere

Now if your power steering decides to leak which it will you better hope you have long ass box wrench in 14mm or converted to electric fans or you will kill yourself. Also that if you have said leak you have to get a 200 dollar alternator which you will also at the same time learn to catch a baby since that's how you get the fucker out.

But routine maintenance is easy as fuck. Even easier to work on than my civic.

Is this thread real life? You don't change your own oil? You let them put whatever the fuck kind of oil and who fucking knows what filter in your car? Holy fuck what a bunch of imbeciles.

>I'd rather spend that time on other things.
You mean like driving to the shop, sitting in the waiting room, and then driving home?

>pull up on the oil plug
Hi Jamil

>not knowing the godtier 4.0 / AW4 replaced the gm v6 and Peugeot trans
They weren't produced at the same time, bucko. Plus the 84-91s looked the best.
>just want a clean 88 wagoneer limited to restore and love

OK I'm intrigued... Whut now?

>Fumoto
This is my first time hearing about this, is this thing legit? I can't see why it shouldn't be legit, but at the same time this is too good to be true. Anyone else have one? If this thing is for real I might buy one right now.

>tfw bud is a mechanic
>tfw free oil changes
>fixed my window washer nozzle and wind shield wipers last week

Feels comfy man

that's a cute face user, is that really yours?

Vtec yo

>oil filter in a hard to reach location in my car
>tfw you just change the oil and not the filter as well

I know this feel. Changing oil take like 15mins for me, drain plug and fikter easily accessible too.

the first time i changed my oil i had to go buy some ATF

protip: oil drain plugs do not use Allen wrenches

the internals of the filter decay over time

I got 2 tips for you guys.

Tip 1

Tip 2

My 2010 Ford Escape is a joke to change oil, the plug and filter are right next to each other. I buy the best synthetic and the best filter for 25 bucks total. Any oil shop around me in Cali would charge at least 75 for all that, plus I have the satisfaction knowing I don't pay someone else to take care of my vehicle.

This isn't an issue as long as you change the filter every 3k miles. You really should fix your shit, though.

Fumoto valves are fairly popular. You just have to worry about it sticking too far down and getting ripped off by road debris.

And FYI for any Americans, any store that sells oil has to take used oil for free. I buy mine at Walmart and return it to O'Reillys.

>drive a '95 crown vic for 8 years
>do my own oil changes, easy as fuck
>buy '13 Fusion, think everything's going to bitch since newer car
>MFW it's easier once you get the stupid aero shield out of the way

thanks Ford

>not just buying a synthetic jug+filter deal at autozone and paying a lube monkey $15 to do the rest

Same, oil changes are a breeze

lmao silly homoes dont they know a butt cant get pregnant why even need condom?

We can still try!

ok i'm gonna change my own oil

>lets park the car
>lets get out in the hot sun
>lets jack the car up
>lets put some jackstands under it
>lets scoot the oil collect underneath
>lets get that nut off
>lets get that oil filter off
>lets get messy
>lets just fuck all this shit
>lets finally get that oil filter back on
>cant move my head
>bugs all over my back
>fucking burned my hand on the oil pan
>fuck can't find the right socket
>why the fuck do i need a crush washer
>who thought ICE was a good engine set up
>fuck
>get the bolt back in
>get the oil filter back on
>jack the car back up
>get the jackstands out
>lower the car
>put the oil in
>take the car for a drive
>bring it back home
>park it

or

>drop the car off
>make sure information is correct
>go do some shit, probably fucking
>head back over in a couple hours
>they checked the air pressure, the transmission fluid, the coolant, the a/c levels, the c/v joints, the brake pads
>pay $50 for synthetic
>say thanks
>leave

now which ones sounds better

You'd have to be both physically/mentally retarded if you really had that difficult of a process changing the oil.

I'd rather pay $30 for 5qt synthetic oil off the shelf and do it myself then have Pablo at Jiffylube for $90+ more.

>difficulty

it's not difficult, it's a waste of fucking time

why would i change my oil myself when i can have a dealership change it with oil *specified by an engineer* and establish a paper trail

shit goes wrong, i can take it back to that dealership and ask what they did wrong

but shit doesn't go wrong, my car runs just as well at 125k as it did when i bought it

>synthetic

why.exe

same reason it's better to take ibuprofen rather than just some herbal medication

Not only do you sound unfit for any sort of physical work, like for example opening a jar or jam, but
>they checked the air pressure, the transmission fluid, the coolant, the a/c levels, the c/v joints, the brake pads
Yeah, no. Maybe if you found a cool shop with so few clients they can take the time to do extended checks on your car, it ain't happening.

I would have given you maybe trans fluid level, coolant level and CV joints but that's it. They're not going to touch the wheels, and they're sure as shit not going to touch the AC system. For starters it would require to have the engine running to have AC pressure, which you probably don't want to be doing when the oil is out of the engine.

This.

Unless it's a hobby car that you want to tenderly love every second of the day, giving a fuck isn't necessary. I'll leave oil changes and stuff like that to mechanics who do it all fucking day for years and who have the right tools and oil ready to go.

I know you're probably trolling but if you're actually doing this would that shit seep to your side eventually

over 50lb boost in my car for years now. cheapest oil with a fram filter

hundreds of thousands of miles on my cars over the last 15+ years. cheapest oil with cheapest filter

probably a million miles on my dads cars for decades, cheapest oil job possible

>never an issue

>fram filter
Bro

i go to a dealership, this is done literally every time i go in

going to a dealership for oil changes is like buying good toilet paper. it's expensive at first but it keeps those delicate bits protected

i change my own brakes, my own filters, probably my own CV joints or wheel bearings if need-be, just because all of those are jobs that need to be done once or twice in 10 years, but oil changes are for the birds

>there are people on Veeky Forums right now so mechanically inept that changing their own oil is a task so arduous it needs to be outsourced

>*specified by an engineer*
I cant actually believe you think this shit means anything at all.

>shit goes wrong
I'd rather blame myself for screwing up a job so simple as an oil change, than deal with the realization that I let a retard at Jiffylube screw it up for me.

bro what? its fine.

WHO THE FUCK GOES TO JIFFYLUBE

I KEEP SAYING I GO TO A DEALERSHIP

YOU FUCKERS ARE DUMB

fuck, how much earwax do you have in your little neet skulls

Unless you make so much money that your time is more valuable than the additional shop charge, including their "inspection" (look at it for a second - is it fucked?), it's economical

What do you do, put it around your hands? Is it for the filter? Never had a problem with gloves and a catch pan. You can loosen and remove the filter on my car from the top, even though it's actually on the bottom.

>specified by an engineer

you mean mobil-1 synthetic or whatever the fuck is in the drum as long as it's the right viscosity

they have deals with oil companies, they won't put whatever in unless you hand them the jug and say "i'll give you five bucks to use mine instead". That's a 100% profit for them.

majority of people on Veeky Forums own used shitboxes and don't make appointments for dealerships to do their fluids.

>He fell for the retarded oil change guy torquing the oil plug to 150ft lb in an aluminum oil pan meme

Seriously. Every car I've bought some retard dealer tech rattled the fucking plug on and tightened the tits off the filter. After the first change its always smooth sailing.

no dickbag, i mean the right viscosity and oem material

the same stuff that was designed with the service interval, tolerances, metallurgy, and temperatures in mind

you know, actual engineering

you know, NOT 'hey dawg this shit doesn't break down til 10k miles'

yeah but what if it stresses your bearings because it doesn't compress to the right degree

you know, engineering things

>Truck in garage
>Seat oil pan
>Remove drain plug
>Grab a beer while waiting for oil to drain
>Remove old filter
>Prepare new filter and attach
>Put drain plug back on
>Pour oil
>Empty used motor oil into container
>Give container to village retard for masturbate lube
>Drive around for 5 minutes
>Leave car sit overnight
>If puddle, tighten drain plug
It's really not that hard

but i do, which is why my shit runs like clock work

125k and all i had to change was the oil ,some filters, a battery, some brakes, and (soon) a shock

this shit is super easy. unfortunately a lot of people overestimate their own intelligence

what about the

>get a ride with a friend and watch a movie at your place while someone else does the work for you

i didn't see that in there

your plan sucks

the first time i was a retard and drained the trans

>Tfw have to take two minutes to set up some ramps to get the same effect with my Honda

It's a struggle meng

You know they actually don't do that and expect owners and dealerships to put in "aftermarket" oil

you sound like an australian

>THESE HOONS AND THEIR AFTERMARKET OIL MODS ARE A MENACE
>THEY CAN GET UP TO 500 EXTRA POWERHORSES BY USING THE POPULAR RACING BRANDS "MOBIL 1" AND "FRAM" TO INCREASE THE NOISE AND MENACING NATURE OF THEIR BURNOUTS

Uh. 90s Honda bro here. The filter is kind of a bitch and drops oil everywhere but the plug is just right on the back. Not the worst thing ever, but not as good as my Subaru

>tfw no ramps, just jack stands

at least i can rotate my own tires

nope i'm american

having someone else change your oil is just the shit

>the same stuff that was designed with the service interval, tolerances, metallurgy, and temperatures in mind
This is autistic shit that doesn't actually matter 99.9% of the time. The manufacture knows people are going to use aftermarket brands and different viscosity grade oil based on climate.

It takes maybe an hour of your time. If you are super rich and have more money than time then outsourcing is fine for you. But you still have to drive to the shop, get a ride back home, go back and pick it up which could cost you even more time in the long run as well as more money

it costs $50 every 7000 miles

that's like 50 three times a year

lol

i literally have a friend follow me, drop off the car, we go run errands, go back, and then pick the car back up

it's awesome
