I'm interested in a 1985 rx7 fb with the 12a as a first car and manual learning car. How bad of an idea is this
One of the most reliable rotaries if its 12A.
Bonus for gsl
As far as I know these are the mods that the owner has done to it
>Full exhaust by Pettit racing holly carb racing beat intake and header
Everything else seems good condition, interior is mint
with the bad reputation rotaries have I'm worried of buying a lemon that'll blow up. I guess the bad reputation is why older non turbos are pretty cheap
what other cars have rotary's other than mazda?
12A is the most reliable.
If you are worried, get a compression test.
some motorcycle companies dabbled
NSU had rotary, NSU was mazda's dev partner
audi built one
The thing with non mazda rotaries was that the apex seals are not up to par, mazda is famous for it because they brought in durable apex seals that lasted way longer, which is why they more or less have a monopoly on it along with developing the first car wankels
russians and GM attempted to make a wankel car
So did nissan
are you an official mazda rotary mechanic?
>tfw dream car is a cosmo
I just want to manual swap it and build that 20b
I want an FB for a project car. How difficult would a Renesis swap be?
No. Just been working on them for 15 years now
This is my second car, love it to death. They are very reliable and simple as long as you stay on top of your oil. Rotaries love to drink it. Also premix your fuel like you would with a 2stroke. I do about 75:1
Make sure you get the GSL if you can, it has the LSD
The holley carbs are garbage on the fb
The bowls are oriented 90 degrees from the original downdraft Nikki configuration, so you get fuel slosh and the engine will cut during hard cornering.
what do you use?
...
Is this an RHD car? my intake is on the passenger side, and the oil filler tube and oil filter are on the driver's side.
That air cleaner is sick as hell, though. What is that?
>Racing Beat Intake
> I'm retarded
The photo is reveresed.
Its racingbeat
l literally put RB springs on mine today.
How much is he asking?
Fucking hell
>young dumb kid who needs to get yo work / class with an old modified carb rotary as a DD trying to learn manual
>his first rotary and his first carb
What could go wrong
My first car was an 86 FC.
Learned a lot and its still my favorite car ever.
Taking the FD out for a first run through the mountains now, will try to not equinox it
He'll fuck up the oil changes / his premix and then bye bye car
Rusty piece of shit, kids should just get civics and stop pretending the 80s were 10 years ago
Im sure he will be ok.
Not everyone is a fuckup
>implying he can care for a carb
Do you know him personally?
People have to learn. Wont be the end of the world if he messes up a couple times.
This user here How do I care for a 12a, carburetors, and how to pre mix? The guys right, I'm an idiot.
What's this from?
My anime
>kids should just get civics and stop pretending the 80s were 10 years ago
>tfw 89-91 EF/CRX
Bridgeported Renesis is assembled, will go in the car soon when I have time
Should brap hard and run like shit
Sounds like farts, HOORAY! I worked on my buddies FC Turbo II. It was cool for what it was but he didn't have it long before the apex seals went. He dumped it for pistons. Quitter. If I was gonna buy a Rotary I'd be after the Mazda Rotary Pickup because reasons.
>17mm
Who the fuck uses this
Anyone who has M10 cap screws in their car.
Subaru WRX oil pan drain plug is 17mm IIRC.
Rx7's and most japanese cars go 8,10,12,14,17,19,21..
12a rx7 was my first car
Go for it user
Changing oil is literally the easiest thing ever with a 1st gen
literally every metric car?
every non burger car
How much do you spend on on it? Compared to a car with a piston engine?
Any tips for finding an exhaust leak? All the clanging around that my fb's exhaust does seems to have caused one, but it's very noisy to begin with so going by sound is kinda iffy.
Going to have a look at it after work.
make youtube videos please. i would be interested.
Compared to my Skyline it's been cheaper in everything but insurance, but I don't drive it much.
Like what?
just you driving in the rx-7 nigga. you took that picture, didn't you? make a video of you driving through the mountains.
Mfw burgers actually use sizes like 6.35mm, 7.94mm
>17.5mm is 11/16 of an inch
Literally the most retarded arbitrary rollercoaster system.
Aight I'll see what I can do.
Here's something to hold you over.
youtu.be
youtu.be
youtu.be
youtu.be
were you the guy sadposting in the dream car thread the other day
wow you are a shitty driver
Brits invented it
I've heard a lot of people say rx7's break down quickly when using it, and needs to be repaired often, do you know anything about this?
>sadposting
Kek
...
shiet
Rotary engines don't explode on you, they just gradually wear down. Whether one holds compression for 15,000km or 150,000km depends on how anal you are about proper care/maintenance. You'll know when it's time to get a rebuild.
I am the fighter pilot of my 95 Rx7
oh well
depends on how they're maintained, like this guy said
ayy
Ayyy are we best friends now?
Yup
Hell yeah
nice
>tfw stock
Nothing wrong with stock :)
Looks like you have one hell of a cannon on the back of it though, damn
I just put that on Sunday, dumped the gigantic stock system and got a resonated midpipe and that fart can to help it get rid of heat. Not loud at all, just nice deep tone.
not me, i still want to see mountain rx-7
try to get some shots of the pretty environment too, i imagine it's quite beautiful up there, no?
It is
Im working on fixing mine up. 87 fc. Manual trans and steering rack. No ac. Was being prepped for a dirt track car before they lost interest and let it sit for 5 years then i got it for 1750.
How to care for a rotary?
just buy the haynes manual when you get your 85 rx7 and follow it to the letter
not much can go wrong with a 12a
Link to the manual?
?
they're not really hard to find
autobarn.net
foxed.ca
The factory service manual makes the haynes look like a joke.
rotary swaps into other cars not meant for tiny dorito engines?
yes / no
>tfw gave no way to check compression
And if compression is bad then I'm fucked
...
Yes
13B in a KE70 was something I considered at one point.
They go like stink in Cappuccinos too but other engines make more sense.
There's an R32 floating around with one as well. I imagine it's a bit heavy for it though.
just find a mechanic
there's a rotary mechanic place not far from me so when I go to look at it I'll just call them and see what happens
I hope all your apex seals last forever and rust never touches your car
Tfw I had one and sold it, now can't find another to buy. Feelsbadman
Why did you sell it
