group a was pretty based as there was so much factory involvement, kind of like touring car racing at the same time.

the early-mid 90s was a great time for motorsport in europe, australia and japan.
i imagine it was like that in the 60s in america.

but group b was special for it's sheer insanity and danger and the excitement.

Ran for the first time in 30 years last weekend. Audi shipped it directly to the event, last minute decision to run it (though, well, it was capable of running. Sounds more like they planned for some time to have it have a go).

People forget that Group B wasn't exclusively 800 hp special built monsters. This thing also met homologation and while it surely wasn't the quickest it gets tons of sympathy points for its enthusiasm and offroading spirit.
