One of the early demons has a skill that removes smirk. You literally get it specifically for that battle. I think Angel learns it.

Navare is probably better, I had Nozomi for IV nostalgia. Navarre should help more since he can use Kajas and hit the weakness with Agi stones. If you have Rakunda or Tarukaja that early, try to do the "any pussy any day" approach and try to kill him quickly.

Luck build is focused on either Str or Dex Str for Physical skills, Lances (1-4 hits), and Multi-attacking hits. Dex for Gun skills, Bazookas (1-4 hits) and ailment bullets.
Phys attacks do more damage, but if the enemy blocks or resists Phys you're fucked. Gun deals less damage, but they can inflict ailments (Pink Bullets can charm and enemies fight themselves) and bullets can switch into pretty much any element type.
People prefer guns for the most part.
