It is all about transmission but sometimes the engine is purposely geared that way in order for the vehicle to perform at high speeds.

It's highish. My Prelude (very similar car) turns over about 2500rpm at 60mph.

No I don't have one but my friend does and I pulled him from 0-40 in my old Subaru. He'd probably catch me at higher speed but we were on a slow road and not too serious.

My C4 does 60 at idle in top gear and my Miata is over 3500 RPM at the same speed. 2700 seems entirely reasonable to me.

My 81 rx7 hits 4k right before 80 mph. It likely has something to do with the brutal speed limits in the US at the time. Speedometers weren't even allowed to read past 85.

I have the i4. Godly engine room.

Parents had an 1982' Dodge Challenger when I was growing up (rebadged Mitsubishi Galant Lambda). It was a 5 speed but when you shifted from 4th to 5th the engine only dropped 200rpm. I don't get why Mitsubishi even bothered with a 5th gear.

Though it was basically just a holdover because Chrysler didn't have enough V6's from mitsubishi, and they didn't have any V6 of their own that was worth a shit, so the turbo K was all they had to meet demand.

My mate has one of these in 2.7 v6 with high comp forged pistons, forged rods, port & polished head with oversized valves, big fuckin cam, haltech ecu, full intake and exhaust. It was dyno tuned at just over 120kW but the torque is like those small displacement turbodiesels you see at the track. The thing will break traction anywhere up to 3rd. Shame about fwd but he's got the handling nice and tight so it's really a pleasure to drive.
