Hey /xcg/. Pistols are useful/ imgur / pastebin / complete piratez campaign user here.
I noticed /xcg/ died again and this time a thread wasn't made right away. Anyway I made this thread just in case because if this the end for now, I didn't want it to happen so suddenly.
Do you guys think we should try to keep /xcg/ up? Should we take a hiatus and wait for a major announcement? Should we just see if we can reverse threads dying for a bit? Just wanted to here what people were thinking for the future of /xcg/. Also if I am being way to melodramatic and serious let me know as well. It's just struck me that we have less and less conversation each thread and unlike the usual life support we run, we don't have any specific time or object we are working towards like when we were waiting for XCOM 2.
Ryan White
Id say wait for some of the console players but maybe we should wait for new stuff idk
Sebastian Campbell
Should we make any contingency plans like merging with another thread or starting an anonymous but persistent chat?
I'm one of the old guard, but even I am getting tired of having the same conversations over and over even if I did start to gestate an idea about how to save the airgame the other day.
On the other hand, I don't want to let the comfy die.
Carson Ortiz
Yeah this was my initial thinking. Though there's many been a few new people from console release, it hasn't made much of a difference so far.
>Should we make any contingency plans like merging with another thread or starting an anonymous but persistent chat? Yeah I'm not really sure. Merging with another general sounds scary, and I just feel like it would feel way to different to really carry on the spirit of /xcg/. Could be wrong though, never really merged generals.
What would the anonymous persistent chat look like?
Isaac Flores
Like discord except without the assfaggotry (and definitely not the reddit one)? Is it possible to do discord anonymously if we had an open invite?
Perhaps we set up an IRC server? (although IIRC that doesn't disguise IPs like Veeky Forums does, so not anonymous unless one is using a proxy) I could host if people like that idea. Although, I'd prefer something with inline image support. I like hipchat, but again, not anonymous, and slack, but again, namefaggotry.
I've never really found a chat program I liked.
Perhaps it's time to write one.
Let's both do some research and post what we find out?
Nathaniel Ward
Found a Gas Grenade and Dragon Rounds in my first month. Are Gas Grenades worth a slot of normal nades for my grenadier? Who do I stick the Dragon Rounds on?
Jayden Ortiz
I'll take a look at it.
Gavin Sanders
>/xcg/
Lucas Sanders
Gas grenades are a bit subpar in my opinion. They are damage over time focused and don't destroy cover. On the other had Dragon rounds are +1 damage and have a chance to set bio enemies on fire. Anyone who shoots regularly is a good choice. Gunslingers do very well with special ammo as they can often fire multiple times a turn.
Burning enemies cannot use any special abilities and will take damage over time.
Justin Bennett
Discord would be simple if it could work. discord.gg/veHAb can you join this for some quick tests?
Adrian White
WTF - all the "anonymous chat" shit is geared toward hookups and chatting with strangers.
Someone said that gas grenades thrown over a reinforcement drop zone prevent them from moving upon landing - is that true?
Leo Cox
That sounds familiar, but I honestly can't remember.
Xavier Martinez
Oh man I honestly forgot special ammo affects pistols too. Thanks user, I think I'll stick it on my Gunslinger
Josiah Wood
ayy?

did anyone try the apocalypse mod for open x-com, btw?
Mason Hernandez
It's not really ready to played for a campaign or for fun unfortunately.
Or does anyone else have any other OpenXCom mods to recommend?
Nathaniel Fisher
Thanks

Does anyone know of a mod out there that offers a good cowboy/western hat? Have browsed both Nexus and Steam Workshop for at least a half hour and I can't seem to come across anything that's quite what I'm after.
Jonathan Wilson
HOLY SHIT This looks like exactly what I was searching for. Do you actually post on here?
Hunter Ward
>>Farewell Commander... >>Music for saying goodbye.
You are giving up way too easy.
Jacob Jenkins
I do, it's pretty cozy in there apart from when /int spergs out.
Also, the main thread is gonna contain a lot of gamer gate/8c han related posts, so if you're opposed to that it might not be the best place.
Asher Phillips
I ain't giving up easy, otherwise I would have never made the thread. I just wanted there to be something ready in either case.
Logan James
Eh, I'd prefer to avoid drama.
I could host a fork of this chat software to run Veeky Forums threads if enough people are interested.
It would be better than trying to compete with the more fast moving threads, but I think we would still miss out on a lot of traffic.
Another idea I proposed is /tbtg/, turn-based tactics general, where we could talk about more than just x(-)com, stuff like jagged alliance 2, frozen synapse, invisible inc, fallout/final fantasy tactics, advance wars, fire emblem, etc. Think that might be worth a try?
Jayden White
Sorry, I should have said if the gamergate shit starts up in earnest, we may be better moving on. I haven't seen it do so yet in the buffer.
Zachary Long
how do i know of how to play the original xcom i am bad
Josiah Taylor
It's worth a shot, but personally, I'm only here for Xcom.
the /v main thread goes through cycles, there'll be car stuff, /pol/ stuff, GG things, /v/ stuff, some twitter stuff relating to all that, etc
But, if Xcom related chat seats itself in a proper sidebar thread no-one will have to deal with any content they don't want to see.
>struggles to find a snek image that isn't porn so we don't drive people off
Alexander Nguyen
Also to note: LB supports 8mb Webms with sound.
Leo Scott
Let's at least wait for the global console release before we put /xcg/ in cryostasis.
Jayden Hall
hory shit, I take back everything I said about Veeky Forums being superior, this is awesome

idk seems off

Too easy without having to type a captcha for every post?
Oliver Hall
I just dont think most of the general will move off Veeky Forums, I may be wrong but these are just my thoughts
Carter Brooks
I hate to admit it, but you're right. Either way, the LB thread is there now, people are free to post whatever Xcom related stuff they want.
Hunter Butler
Agree, but at least we now have a somewhat persistent storage option.
Thanks for making the effort and finding this,
Jacob Hall
No worries, I just hope it stays useful.

We lost the war again, haven't we?
Lincoln Rogers
Not sure if this was as dead as the LW days pre-XCOM2, but back then we still stuck around somehow
Daniel Hernandez
Greetings, lack of light, my long-time acquaintance
Dylan Long
The simple explanation is that there was stuff to talk about back then, strategies for LW and shit. There's no overarching discussion about anything to be had right now as virtually nobody is running the same XCOM2 game so any balance/tips 'n tricks discussion is void right from the get-go. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed XCOM2, but until there's a worthwhile overhaul I think /xcg/ is going to be in a state of decline.
Levi Powell
She looks quite punished.
Daniel Nelson
At least we're dying without descending into an abyss of faggotry like /kfg/ is.
Liam Gonzalez
Oh man KF2, how could a sequel to perfection go so, so wrong.
Christopher Perez
dont die yet

Sounds are hard to mod out. Even the soundtrack mod is just overriding the base system.

FPS XCOM with squads like Republic Commando when?

If that happens then I'm honest to God joining ADVENT
John Robinson

Blake Torres
why is this fucking game overriding my changes to xcomengine.ini even though I set it to read only and just yesterday I was playing normally? It seems every time I load the game some new problem appears and I spend more time fixing it than playing.
HELP! I can't play it if the game set my graphics to high automatically and there's no way to change it. What could be causing it?
Thomas Wood
Is the mobility or dodge PCS better for rangers? If I have both would it be better to use the dodge PCS on another class?
Jayden Green
dodge is a meme pcs
mob is best
Oliver Lee
Definitely go mobi
We're just exploring other options faggot. It would be text only, but yeah I lean more on the side of just letting /xcg/ take a break for a bit.
That's part of it, but it actually goes deeper. We have actually managed to exhaust nearly all discussion for: >x-com >no one plays tftd >no one really play apocalypse >openxcom FMP is old news >PirateZ >XCOM EW >Long War >Vanilla X2
Levi Rivera
I thought we already hit the global console release.
What are you having trouble with?
Anthony Johnson
not dying
also the pace, it's so slow
Kayden Kelly
>not dying Are you exiting the skyranger on the first turn?
>also the pace, it's so slow Pace is entirely up to you to be honest. I don't know if you have played long war, but I finish most missions quicker than in Long War. It will take you a bit to get used to the controls and UI, I've been playing so long I blaze through them. Also you can speed up some of the stuff in the options menu to help a bit. I am assuming you are using openxcom.
Joseph Martinez
If the problem is graphic option resetting, disable all mods, launch the game, set it up the way you want, re-enable mods and play. They should stick after that. As far as I'm aware no one knows why the fuck they reset if you're playing modded, but that seems to be the issue.
>global console release Nope. 27 was for NA, rest of the world on the 30.
Joseph Nelson
>Nope. 27 was for NA, rest of the world on the 30. Ok well good point, I'll keep that in mind.
Benjamin Phillips
can I get a JoJo styled "BAM" edit of this?
Ian Stewart
>Are you exiting the skyranger on the first turn? yup, but i've yet to be killed that way
usually it's an alien firing from off-screen or walking into one of my soldiers in an enclosed area without the soldier using reaction fire (despite having TUs left over)
Oliver Lopez
This image explains how reaction fire works. Just ignore the melee section, there is no melee reaction fire in un-modded x-com (you can turn it on if you want to).
So the main thing is that whenever possible you want to end your turn with all your guys breaking los. Obviously buildings are good for this, The other thing is smoke grenades. Smoke grenades reduce vision of units trying to see into and out of it, which means that aliens have to get really close to you in able to see you. Basically, smoke grenades are free los breakers you can carry on any of your soldiers. The general agreed upon tactic for exiting the skyranger and not losing anyone to reaction fire is to smoke the skyranger ramp and exit on the second turn. This is because on the first turn, all aliens have full TUs so they will reaction shot if they see your guys.
When I play x-com, I make it my goal to never see an alien when it isn't my turn. Reaction fire is very inconsistent and I don't even try and use it really. Another tip is that when aliens are in their "Wander" or "scout" mode (ie they can't see your units) they always tend to spend exactly half of their time units on moving. Also aliens spawn in the ufo and in barn buildings on most UFO maps. Personally if I see a barn and it is early in the mission, I just start chucking HE bricks and rockets at it.
Blake Cox
>there is no melee reaction fire in un-modded x-com Have they changed that in more recent OpenXcom builds? I remember getting an unpleasant chryssalid reaction fire surprise, something that couldn't happen in the DOS game.
Andrew Gray
It's possible that they switched from an option to being always on on standard builds. It's also possible that I'm just remembering incorrectly because vanilla x-com has so little melee.
Hunter Collins
Bayonets when?
Wyatt Turner
punching aliens with power armor when
Dylan Murphy
How exactly did you want it?
Lincoln Morris
Fairly sure it's on by default. I regularly abuse it by parking high reaction troops with stun rods outside a UFO door and let aliens walk out and get themselves tazed.
Luis Reyes
That would be cool. XCOM is a taskforce in my eyes anyway. A big, self-contained taskforce capable of its own research and development.
Josiah Perez
I love you, edit-user
I like the Bureau storyline in theory because of how clandestine it all feels, just XCOM as this super secret alien containment taskforce who will glass an entire area and delete it off of the maps to keep anyone from ever find out what went down. An SCP/XCOM crossover would be dope.
Zachary Cox
Ok cool, here's a slightly better version. Just noticed in the first version most of the outline for the middle character was accidentally removed so I brushed it up a bit.
Jaxson Brown
Let's all take a moment to reminisce about that most delicious butthurt which filled /bsg/ when XCOM 2 was announced
Joseph Harris
Who the hell is /bsg/?
Hunter Rodriguez
>SCP/XCOM crossover Oh god >doing typical mission, killing ayys like it's nothing >suddenly 682 arrives >has a fuckton of health and crazy regen, even if you somehow bring his health down he will come back the next turn >hits like a truck, can take out most soldiers in one hit >objective changes to getting the fuck outta there >eventually get a mission to help Foundation contain him >he breaks containment after a month or two >this time around he also has ruler reaction
Justin Jones
Yep, The Bureau feels very much like that, a crossover is such a natural step that you could almost re-skin some stuff and change some dialog lines and you practically have a SCP game running in front of you.
Cameron Hughes
Bioshock General. The XCOM 2 announcements had one of those countdown clock with sporadic little hints like "We are still vigilant" and "the city of New Providence". /bsg/ were absolutely convinced that it was a new Bioshock game and the return of their collective waifu Elizabeth
Chase Moore
Oh yeah I remember, that I just forgot what their general was. Poor sods didn't even know they never stood a chance. I think we confirmed it was X2 after some people more closely examined the city picture and noticed some left-oever assets from X1.
Aiden Long
Sounds like a nightmare by Johnny Lump

The question we gotta ask ourselves is if Lump will start creaming himself over it or if it will be too much even for him.
