fuck off boomer

you know they look out of place and fucking terrible. just admit it falcunt.

they are all cosmetics.

Hell there are companies in america that put modern innards in older headunits and charge a shitload so stupid boomers dont think they 'look out of place'

Uhhh dumbshit your'e driving a modern car in a nu era and you're old as fuck of course EVERYTHING you are doing is out of place stop living in the past cunts.

>driving a modern car
wrong
>boomer
>wrong

>they are all cosmetics.
what is cassette
what is cd

anyone who puts modern innards in older headunits also defserves to be shot.

i think it was just a custom facia over a new unit.

Or they had some sort of glovebox setup with aux/bluetooth hidden so you couldnt see it.

I agree kind of on classics but anything after the 80's is fair game since most of those cars are pretty modern as far as interior cosmetics and styling go.

My car's stock radio looked aftermarket as it was the top spec option with a MINIDISC PLAYER. The radio I have in now looks no moe or less out of place.

This this fits perfect in my bait car

If I want an aux jack an Bluetooth and the ancient stereo in my car doesn't have it, there's nothing stopping me from replacing it with a new unit. I really don't care what you think about the looks. My car is a shitbox anyways.

here's a thought for you consideration;

shut the fuck up

i usually keep the old headunits if they still work

kept the eurovox out of my dunnydoor since it was the premium one with the stacker and had amazing reception.

Not plugged in and it overheated (lol vt dash design)

>Not having bluetooth, AUX and SD.

You should probably get to dying grandpa. Everyone tired of smelling mothballs.

I don't care, I want to be able to use AUX and USB and iPod integration and shit.

I've found the cheapest head units are usually the least flash ones and it's true of the most expensive ones. It seems the mid priced units are the ones that look like they're from a 90s rave.

That's a KRC-999. Just about the sickest headunit of all time. You're lucky to find one under $1000 now.

OP knows whats up, the rest of you are fags.

So carfag boomer audiophiles do exist

>paying $1000 for a clapped out tape headunit from the 80's

>tfw never paid hundreds/thousands of dollars for placebo gear
>tfw not ultra retarded
>tfw not an audiophile

it's a good feel

i just shove whatever speakers/headunits i have lying around into my newest car/project and leave it for the next 2-5 years it really doesnt bother me, i found insulation to be the biggest obstacle to decent car audio alongside road noise and chassis viabration and harmonics and all that shit.

I found subs also make the sound too boomy and just dont really add anything apart from wank, a decent 6x9 setup will outpace most subs anyway unless its a decent build/housing.

Honestly ive never bothered with subs or amps, just a decent headunit and speakers

Its a really cool head unit, but I'd never buy one because of the price.

I'm somewhat of an audiophile and appreciate interesting gear, but for all intents and purposes there should be a sticky for wut h/u is gud, and it should just say buy a Kienzle and shut up.

Still looking for a good looking unit that can play cassettes though.

I have a usb fm transmitter plugged in the cigarette lighter, transmitting black metal to the external antenna. I shielded it a bit as well, so the transmission quality is extra shitty and noise is added. This is how I roll.

i got one for $200 in 'unknown' condition.
....
asked around, sent it to a specialist.

still not working, sucks :(

kenwood are useless.

That blows. So many small parts and moving components in that thing. I guess its just time to git gud.

>not having patrician USB

kys my man

Ugh i Just spent the whole day driving around in a Polo stationwagon (exact same dash as yours) I borrowed because I needed the space. It was the 60hp model. Such a slow piece of shit.

>Truck came with period correct Pioneer head unit that had probably been in it since it came home from the dealership
>Dickless shits get into my truck and steal it
>Throw modern Chinese SD BT head unit in there
>Turning knob is like pressing up/down volume buttons
>Breaks after a few weeks
>Replace it with period correct Clarion OEM head unit with CD changer port modded to aux
>Been great

Wish I had one.

Buying an 80's deck like that costs me way more than I can afford, but I'm saving up for one.

Fuck I want it bad for the aw11 I don't have yet.

this is the even weaker 1.4. its fast IMO but thats probably because i have never driven any other car yet.

fuck do i do with usb

NBT from 2015 535 in 2001 750iL

Deal with it...

>'91 civic DX
>SONY headunit
>'99 trans am
>pioneer headunit
>'95 suzuki sidekick 4x4
>touchscreen jensen headunit

>driving 90's cars with era headunits that aren't vintage pioneer/alpine units

its called SOUND QUALITY, autistic faggot

>touchscreen
vomiting

>its fast IMO
>vw 1.4l

>tfw think my 5.7l V8 feels "slow"

kek europoors

It charges your phone while being able to transfer better sound quality than aux and Bluetooth

>Not being able to get used to newer and better technology.

kys grandpa, your old ass shouldn't be driving anyways.

it was super cheap ($150)

its also a flip-up unit with traditional buttons, and looks clean with the screen down. no leds or anything. just a simple clock display and polished aluminum volume knob and seek/forward buttons

and it has like a 6" LCD screen that can be used for a backup camera

My friend conciser the following
>never driven any other car faster.
the car i took lessons in was even slower.

life in yurocuckland really sucks a lot

If you don't have a modern headunit with BT audio+handsfree along with a 4ch amplifier and a subwoofer with its own amplifier in your car, please crush your old shitbox and kill yourself now, no excuses.

OP with his faggot analog pee-pee radio mirin my deebeez

Hah, no 6x9 will replace what subwoofers have to offer. If subwoofers make the sound too boomy, you don't know how to install them correctly. There are crossovers and filters for a reason, you know? And it's not even that hard, just get some 0db sample audio with the frequencies you want to output and start turning dials until you reach preferred outputs.

You can fill your car with all the 6x9 you want, it will not replace the sound you get from correctly tuned +10" subwoofers in a box suited for your preference. I have 2x 15" in my trunk and I don't aim for SPL (they're not even SPL subs), but for loud and clear 25-80 range plus nonlinear cutoff to 120 where my speakers start to take over. Actually, from the sound you would not expect two big subwoofers because of the prominence of hair-moving SPL when speaking of subwoofers in cars.

Yeah funnily enough I've never had room for subs in my cars even tho their boots are massive due to tools and shit I need to carry around I might mount one in the parcel shelf or a single 12" but I'm afraid it would get damaged

> one speaker still working
> paper cones blown
> shit staging

Feels great man

>the le so 80s meme
>i love shitty sounding audio in my car it really adds to the "feel"

Your cassette deck ain't got shit compared to my 1951 wire recorder

Real men listen to wire

...

howd i do

Looks hella fruity familia

ic

mmmm IMO, i'd say close, but i think its all a bit too rounded

>mine

its a few years off, but still fits IMO

THIS IS IN MY 88 SUPRA
Are you upset cucks?

nope, but i wouldn't buy your car with that in it if you were selling it.

>have period correct aftermarket radio in 32 year old car

audio inputs on back allow me to still have bluetooth.

>Not putting a NAV system in your shitbox

Top kek m8s

called a phone (and not on some ugly as fuck holder either)

nav systems and touch screens, fucking gross.

>all IMO

You best download the actual maps then bc most of the times one needs maps is when there's no signal.

This thing has CarPlay and Android Auto too, better than using your phone desu senpai

radio or cassettes fo' me.

>that satisfying clunk of the cassette sinking into place as you put it in

>not laser projected night vision augmented reality
so you're going for an '00s period correct aesthetic?

I have a clarion 6 disc in my 1988 car, which it came with. The deck comes from the early 90s, which is period correct, in my opinion.

I actually just replaced the changer with a new-old-stock item I found on ebay.

I'm glad some asshole kept this thing around for so long.

I'm probably younger than you dude. Touchscreen is cancer. So ugly. Feels like shit to use

This.

Radios like this are in every ad featuring a trashed late 80's/90's jap car owned by a total fuccboi

I did some math on my calculator watch; I can't afford it. Looks super neat-o tho!

How's the sound fidelity on those old players?

How do I wire a headunit without a wiring diagram
18Y/o me thought sony headunits were cool so I got a shop to wire it in
They did a full hack/slash so I dont know what wire does what

I want to buy a period correct headunit, is there an easy guide I can follow on how to do it from scratch?

>mid 90s car
>Disco aftermarket stereo
That is actually pretty period correct if you remember the 90s.

Come and shoot me then. I gutted an original volvo stereo radio and stuck a bluetooth reciever and amp inside of it because fm radio sucks.

Can I have a really old head unit and still listen to iPod/USB/Android?

Try finding a double DIN to fit the classic Cadillac look, protip you can't
Who needs aux when you have tape?

...

>backlit led instead insted of green VFD

So close

eh its still not ugly, i would rock it.
thats the best one i could find

>these are the retards who want shitty old head units
Literally just take a multimeter and look at the wiring guide for the HU you have now, apply logic, then wire it to the "era correct" HU.

Seriously, it's just a jigsaw with wires, a twelve year old could manage it, then these people are here asking stupid fucking questions rather than doing some simple googling.

What work do you do where you can have such a low puzzle solving skill?

Why would you want this? Just get a new HU with better output.

You and I both brother.

If I had a 70s Lincoln I'd totally blast 8-track music down the highway at 55mph.

I guess this is pretty 90s, why tho

looks super dim
can you even see it in the sunlight

You'll be able to find the colors online or just buy an OEM harness and connect matching wires to fix the hack job.

no

: (

it plays dvds tho... when the car is in park

eew

>wanting a dated piece of shit in your car
Yeah dude you're so 80s woha dude so stylized XD

This is my reason why.
I'm not paying 100+ bucks for a radio that isn't even that functional in comparison to the one that I have now.
Just the radio alone would make up 14% of what I bought the car for.

Where can I find a modern HU that copies the looks of an 80s Alpine or Kenwood?

ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Rare-SHARP-RG-375X-Stereo-Radio-Cassette-FM-AM-Made-in-JAPAN-80s-w-BOX-/222206788804?hash=item33bc8e84c4:g:zToAAOSwfZ1WYYeF&vxp=mtr

hows this?

>mfw the cassette deck still works
>mfw listening to nothing but grunge because those are the only tapes i still own

You don't need to have correct era whatever, I want modern amneties even in old car. You can totally have touchscreen and spotify, tidal (god bless FLAC music) even in decades old car if you do it correctly. Except doing it correctly requires a lot of effort and most people are too lazy/ Thou I do admit that KRC-999 is pretty dope, but 90% of original car stereo is utter shit thus not worth effort.

autoguide.com/auto-news/2015/02/porsche-offers-modern-touchscreen-for-classic-911s.html

>81 and under Classic Car
>$300 dashboard panel is poorly cut to fit a $25 autozone radio

Why the fuck do people do this?

Because functional people don't have autistic obsessions about their cars.

This whole thread is insane.

Tapes and CDs are fragile and obsolete. Radio sucks dick, I'd rather not listen to the same 15 songs on repeat. I don't want a deck with features from 1999, I'd rather connect my phone via Bluetooth.

downvote :(

They do sound pretty aesthetic

>listen to muh best hits
>Coheed and Deftones
>this is real art

Another example VW beetle car audio modernised. Has USB connector so you can plug your phone etc.

What would be a good HU for a 1980s Supra/Corolla/Celica/MR2?

>Supra/Corolla/Celica/
I'm afraid for best results you gotta do it yourself. Celica has too awesome stereo, to do it switch way. retrojdm.com/ArduinoCarStereo.asp

Those things suck and most of them sound like wetdogshit even with the best speakers. Much better off with a decent shaft radio and you can wire AUX in yourself.

I was thinking of putting this in my AW11.

>no aux on those dual knob with the slider thing in the middle pyle HUs
so close
I hear Pyle lives up to it's name though. Seems about right for a $25 walmart brand but hey it looks right and will work for a while probably

I really wanted an Alpine 7109 but they're so expensive and have no AUX.

too old imo

you need something like
or
colour lights, square buttons ect!

whilst yours looks late 70's/80's, its too round and frankly, boring for an aw11

>crusing at night in a first gen MR2 to a cassette tape of Billy Idol
When the aesthetics just fucking fit

Yeah, but unlike most audiophile shit, it actually looks cool.

fucking kek
