Analog on PS2 was pretty ass, the ps4 and xbox controller analogs are much easier. I used to do sidewinder loops on that hunk of shit and it unironically took me like a week to get them down.

It's not any slower in any other area and you'd be surprised how many games actually have a special type of input to command a dash like in a melty blood. You can just hit forward and two buttons to get them in that. Like he said he said earlier you can just practice it out, I've been using analog for like a decade.

D-pad messes up your thumb. Do nothing but hadoukens or shoryukens for ten minutes straight, take a break and then do ten minutes on analog. You can feel the difference. If you use analog you can play signficantly longer without getting a weird feeling where it connects to your hand. At least for me.

Are you sure it's because you're not used to the d-pad or you're using a shitty pad? I use a DS3 and the d-pad barely fucks with my thumb. I do need to take the occasional break sure but that's a fair price to pay when my inputs become so much more precise.
PS4 d-pad is complete trash though. That shit is straight up uncomfortable.

I tried d-pad on ps2 and ps4 and it gave me cramps and discomfort after about 2 hours of solid play. Ironically the only d-pads that never fuck my shit up are the terrible 360 ones and snes pads. I never actually got a PS3 until well after its death so I never really played fighters on it.
Hori and Qanba are good. Madcatz TEs are great but kind of overpriced. IMO you're best off getting a midrange stick, sticking sanwa parts in there in the color of your choice and printing a nice art panel for the top. That way you have a custom arcade-quality stick for cheaper than a conventional sanwa stick.

yes, but that depends on how you finger it. this is why i said to not press with only the tip of your thumb/finger. it really starts hurting after a while.

Also the secret for dpad is that after a couple days of intense play your thumb forms a callus and it stops hurting. You just have to power through it at the start and then it's never a problem again.

360/720 movement is better on analog. But I prefer d-pad most of the time.
When I do specials I actually do a sliding motion using the part of the thumb just above the last joint, I've never used the tip of my fingers for anything unless it's mario-party tier button mash.

maybe it's just me but since i adjusted my way of using the d-pad i haven't had any issues playing pad, even after many hours.

The draw is the cute females, lots of costumes, gameplay that's pretty easily understood and toned down violence. You'd think DoA is the enemy of the female gender reading some "reviews" but it has its appeal for girls aswell. Probably more than any other fighting game.

That stick's suprisingly solid. Good weight to it, and for half the price of a Madcatz TE you can have something of equal quality but completely personalised down to the art and the stick ball (there's some good stuff on focusattack like bubbled plastic ball tops and metallic ones if they're your thing). There's also a huge thread on srk with custom art if you're not confident with photoshop. It's honestly the best option if you're happy to spend a little extra time sourcing the parts from different sites. Assembly is really quick and solder-free too.
