It was a simple, cheap two door "sports" car with a good manual transmission from a company that makes econoboxes at that price range.
Yeah compared to bigger, better companies it couldn't stand up, but on it's own I liked it.
Would I buy one? No.

Hyundai is still ironing out kinks with their performance models like the Genesis Coupe and Veloster. Their transmissions aren't bad, they just can't handle a lot of power.

Kia knows they shouldn't be making performance cars and stick to the basics, and they do very well at that.
