Why don't car manufacturers make modern cars with classic bodies? Like, a 70's dodge charger frame with modern parts and stuff?

I'm not very knowledgeable with vehicles, just asking out of curiosity

Not aerodynamic (increased fuel costs for buyer), not what the vast majority of buyers want (which means a smaller customer base), entirely new production lines for what would be niche products, etc etc etc. Basically, it's not economically defensible to do so.

safety regulations

Closest thing they could do would be to put similar looking body panels on a modern chassis.

Nothing's stopping you from buying an old Charger and swapping in a modern engine, transmission, custom suspension, etc though.

Probably wouldn't meet safety standards and they would have to retool to be able to build them plus it would probably be pretty low volume.

cucked by laws essentially

Don't forget brakes. 70's and older cars usually have pretty shitty brakes.

That would be updated too.

He said modern parts. Presumably this means everything would be modern tech asides from the body.

Can't be bothered. Custom shops can do it for you.

>implying "I KNOW WHAT I GOT"ers aren't an issue
>implying texting while driving teens and soccer mums driving into said classic cars, killing them instantly aren't an issue, thus dwindling the numbers of how many are available
>implying rust and owner neglect thinning the herd isn't an issue
There are a lot of things that are stopping us desu senpai. Pretty soon they won't exist because they're all smashed, returned to mother Earth, or hoarded

BoF construction isn't "safe"
Except in trucks apparently

Fuel economy standards.
Aerodynamics.
Pure and simple.

Manufacturers get million++ dollar fines if they don't meet CAFE standards.

>Pure and simple.
Not really.

Add what said and you're golden though.

Car manufacturers make cars normies want.
Normies don't want a car that looks 40 years old, they want their angry soap bars.

anyone who would want that look would prefer the real thing

They do faggot.

The aftermarket can.

>dynacornclassicbodies.com/classic2.html

>hotchkis, spohn, UMI, etc for suspension

>crate engine&tranny of your choice

this + pedestrian safety. some shapes are worse than others if you run over someone

and we find that in order to do so and to make these cars profitable and aerodynamic, they have to round the edges and fatten up some sides and we find that Billy Beau Quarterback didn't age so well once he left the high school starting spot

poorly executed

not an actual big time car manufacture but it has been done

Equus Bass 770.

starts at $250k

most people dont like old car styling, it was incredibly popular when they were made because that was the popular style

people today want new looking cars because thats the current style which mean angry pig fat barges, lots of safety and shit you dont need

the 2016 impala looks bitching at least, too bad its FWD

Why do all modern cars look like squished eggs, or plastic boxes with rounded corners?

what other anons said. Cant make a car with square corners anymore for pedestrian safety. Also other NHTSA requirements to make cars 'safer'

The irony is that the real thing is cheaper.........

For the same reasons as has already been stated in this thread.

What is Eagle, Singer and Icon? Of course the originals are cheaper, these are meant to be better than the original in every way.

Not sure if that Equus thing is in the same league as those others though.

It's better on gas and 70's cars back then weren't that good for gas mileage.

Its 100% possible. People bitching about safety and shit can eat shit, they can easily tweak some areas and use better materials and give you the same performance as its modern brothers. Hell, there are some company(ies) that make shells that you can use to make your own classic car. Just no Chrysler.

>all these faggots in this thread bringing up anything besides safety legislation and fuel economy
Old car bodies were dangerous and guzzled gas like motherfuckers. These two reasons are why you have soap bars today.

its really fucking faithful, you're just dumb. if you take out the safety regs its all the same lines

just buy this and hire a shop to put on the rest, factory shell warranty too

It's more due to NVH standards being different entirely for trucks

This is what Icon does. Although with SUVs instead of cars.

That's not ironic at all. Do you know what irony is?

Anyone have an estimate of what it would cost to build a shell up with all modern parts? Really broad question, but I'd imagine a modern 67 mustang would be 40-60k when all's said and done. Does that seem about right?

Good. Stay off the road, this is where cars live.

i mean they could round the designs if they were based off older designs like the challenger and mustang, and they clearly are more pretty than the newer designs.

if you're doing all custom fabrication yeah it's going to be expensive

Economies of scale
Fuel efficiency
