Why did you take the engine out, everything should be blue. Everything.

So, seeing how much brake fluid you have in your reservoir is overrated.

you shouldnt lose brake fluid unless you have a leak somewhere which by then you would know from the pedal feel.

Reservoir level goes down as brake pads wear out but not to the point where the reservoir is empty and the master runs dry

Yeah and when you top it up then get the pads changed, it ends up all over the firewall. When the low fluid light comes on and you have no leaks, it's time for pads.
