I've never been into the whole import/JDM thing. It popped up in my search for a cheap pickup truck. It checks all the right boxes for me in what I'm looking for in a truck. How difficult would it be to find parts or someone to repair things that are beyond my limited wrenching skills?

absolutely not those things are fucking sweet and incredibly useful.
dont expect to be able to take it on the freeway though they get scary as fuck at like 45 mph

honestly cant speak to how difficult parts would be to source, can always ship from japan. if its your dd though that would suck waiting for 2 weeks+ to have something shipped

Ive always wanted one of these but could never justify the cost. I mean $5000 for a glorified 4 wheeler. No thanks
I could buy a 4 wheeler with a trailer for less than a grand

>1600lbs
>660cc 3 cylinder

I bet it gets Insane gas mileage.

It would be my get to work/running errands and back vehicle.

>glorified 4 wheeler

That can legally drive on the roads and has an enclosed cab.

I can drive my pickup in the road. I need a work vehicle in the woods.
A cab would be nice. But an extra 4 grand for a cab isnt worth it.

Not if you drive it on any highways regularly... 30mpg with a regular 20 minute drive each way to and from work.

It seems like that truck can do both.

How does it fare uphill with a heavy load?

Would you ever road trip this thing? I want one so badly but it's the power I'm worried about

I drive ~5 miles one way to work. I very rarely take a trip into the city about 30 miles away.

Is that yours in the picture? If so, care to share any thoughts on it as something to live with every day?

Also, if I were to get this, Would I run into any hiccups insuring it? The ad claims its already titled in my state, but will trying to insure it be an issue?

i drove the van version of this for work in the late 80's. at that time i worked for a cleaning company that specialised in initial cleans on new build houses. it had mud terrains on it and would go absolutely anywhere on a building site.
didn't particularly like it, noisy and cold but perhaps that was down to it being a glorified beer can on wheels. the smaller cab should negate both these issues though.

empty it would do 80ish but bounce all over the bloody place.nippy in first and second and great in the city
fully loaded it would still do around 65 and be better behaved on the road though acceleration is tectonic plate slow and scarey shit when trying to merge on the motorway

they arent street legal iirc

I mentioned in another post that i only have about a 10 mile round trip to work.

I live in a pretty rural area and rarely take any major motorways. Just the occasional trip into the city about 30 miles away.

>How does it fare uphill with a heavy load?
Like absolute shit

Me and my friend loaded up a Subaru Sambar truck with 20 wheels & tires, tools, and a cooler to take to Ebisu (in a mountainous area) and you could feel the heat off the transmission from 10 feet away when we got into the parking lot.

It wouldn't go over 95kmh on the expressway either.

According to the ad, its older than 25 years and it is already titled in my state.

yeah i read that, thought i'd give you the full run down though.
nothing worse than getting half the info you could have got

>nothing worse than getting half the info you could have got

Very true an I appreciate it. I just found the ad today and I'm weighing my options to see if its even worth pursuing.

jdm owner here

i do not recommend it as a DD if you need to depend on a vehicle

parts should be easy to find online but shipping will take decades and make sure you find a mechanic who will work on it-- look for places with tons of old junkers and rvs in their lot

i have to drive all over town for simple things like filters and it took several months just to get glowplugs for my dirty diesel

i cringe thinking about if something more obscure needs to be fixed/replaced, my mechanic is pretty bro though, will rebuild a lot of things that most places would rather replace

otherwise go for it

>i do not recommend it as a DD if you need to depend on a vehicle

It wouldn't be my ONLY vehicle, but it would be the one I would normally use to get to/from work.

I'm looking to get a c6 vette at the same time, and looking to get a cheap ass, economical utility truck and this thing fits my needs perfectly.

then go for it

i also have bunch of shitbikes

but my pampered toyota is my lifeline, i commute up to 200 kms a day and i need a non bullshitter ride

i would like to be able to sell the toyota and jdm it erryday but it's just too much of a risk

I've only been looking into this for a few hours now. Where does one even find parts for a car that was never offered in their country?

I don't think Suzuki even sells cars in the USA anymore.

you mostly order them from third world countries and shit

they're actually usually priced pretty reasonably but shipping can take FOREVER

i ordered a block heater in 2015 that hasn't arrived yet

>i ordered a block heater in 2015 that hasn't arrived yet

Jesus fuck.

So I'd be totally hosed if I need a water pump or some other regular random maintenance part?

YES

this is my point

if you're going to be stressed about shit in transit it's not the vehicle for you

Just out of curiosity, what makes the shipping take so long? Is it possible to find parts that might be pricier, but with more reliable shipping?

you really need to also find a mechanic who can or knows someone who can rebuild shit

it costs a little bit more, a new starter for my toyota was $250 and rebuilding my jdm's was $350

but it beats growing old waiting for fucking parts

i honestly don't know

sometimes it's quick but sometimes there's one stupid piece of shit you need, and only one place seems to sell it, and it just takes forever

>look for places with tons of old junkers and rvs in their lot
>find a mechanic who can or knows someone who can rebuild shit

I live out in the country. There are plenty of shops/junk yards around here with junk cars, RVs, boats, whatever all over the yards.

Those are cool but I would rather just get a cheapo ranger for safety and the ability to actually take it past 40mph

$2500

I saw that one earlier but I'm a picky autist.

>Ford
>Automatic

I appreciate the effort though.

>useless box
>bicycle tires
>useless for towing
>impossible to get parts for
>nipshit repair manual
>zero safety features
>ass interior
>can't highway speed
>costs the same as a newer compact or full size domestic

Good idea

>>useless box
useless how?
>>bicycle tires
cheap tires
>>useless for towing
I have nothing to tow anyway
>>impossible to get parts for
I'll give you that one
>>nipshit repair manual
wat?
>>zero safety features
meh, I've had a good run
>>ass interior
don't care
>>can't highway speed
will RARELY be taken on the highway
>>costs the same as a newer compact or full size domestic
need something with a bed.

It costs more than a light truck... i mean really. $2000 2wd toyota pickup will do everything you want and be more practical.
Or a $500 mazda b2200

you can buy parts for these from Napa Auto Parts

It is damn low miles though. I can't find anything less than 100,000 miles for less than $5000

Also I have to deal with the "red neck truck tax"

Any decent capable truck is pretty pricey because they're so trendy. I need something reliable and utilitarian.

Not very

Just overnight parts from Japan

I drove one around the block once. They are fucking scary. No power steering, no crash protection, no hood. You can do a full u turn in a tight city Street without touching the curb but your cab will be over it. Also wrong side drive is strange as fuck. Test drive it and you will know better. I still want one btw.
