Hey guys, I was looking for something practical, affordable, and fun to drive, and I'm thinking about getting a Fiat Punto. Specifically, the 1.3L diesel version with multijet. Can anyone here tell me if this is a good car?

>mjet rant about how it's the best car ever made in 3...2...1...

You've described a Civic
Yes they are the butt end of a lot of memes, but they aren't bad cars.
yup

>fun to drive
>1.3 diesel
>good car
Pick only one

No but I can tell you why it's a bad car
>no ecoboost

What is ecoboost? Is it good?

What is bad about the Punto?

>FIX
>OT
>RGAIN
>DONY

I'm just going to assume this isn't bait, so I'm actually be serious.

Yes, it's a really practical and spacious and the 1.3 diesel does great empeegees if you want. Even if you thrash it around everywhere, it won't pass the 7L/100 mark.
It has a really good chassis and the engine is pretty reliable.
The car itself is well put together and nothing rattles whatsoever, even though it does have some hard plastics inside.

If you can, buy a 3dr. It's much more sporty looking.
If you're going for the Grande Punto, get the 90hp one. It has a variable geometry turbo instead of a fixed geometry one (75hp.)
If you're going for the Evo or the MY2012, the only 1.3 engine available is the 85hp (it also has a variable geometry turbo, but it has a dpf).
Pic related is mine.

>90hp high power version
tob geg

>I'm just going to assume this isn't bait

holy fucking kek you really are a special case

>muh rotative engine makes so many hp
>needs to get it to 9k to overtake a cyclist

Giving the benefit of the doubt.

Damn, 90hp is pretty good. I was also considering the Abarth but that should be good enough.

Are these cars reliable?

Not meming, Fiats aren't that realiable, which doesn't mean they are bad cars per se. It's a gamble with a fiat, you either have a normal one, or one that sucks terrible.
The pros of a fiat are that they are relatively cheap, look good most of the time (>inb4 le Multipla maym) and somewhat fun to drive compared to for example VW, but that's just my opinion.
The cons are that they aren't as reliable as the asian brands.

...

lol

>90hp
>high performance

>32k for a tucking Fiat 500
Holy shit

get a 4x4 panda, at least then you can do skids in fields and snow and shit for fun.

Seriously haha, My DD civic makes 300 wheel hp.

>not wanting to be as loud as possible...

What, did you put 150+ stickers on it?

DON'T FUCKING DO IT.
It's always the same thing. Why do you want a diesel? So you can remap it and then leave gigantic clouds of smoke that cause cancer to half a city?
JUST DON'T DO IT.
Buy something japanese from the 90's (PETROL) and you're good to go.

Even something German is a decent choice in yurop.

You have no idea of the car scene here.
There's only two things:
>diesel fags who think that their Seat is a fucking Ferrari
or
>ricers putting fartcans in everything (especially Civics)
EVERYTHING outside these two isn't bad.

>>diesel fags who think that their Seat is a fucking Ferrari
kek
In their defense those seats generally pull hard as fuck, as opposed to the civic shitcans.

>pull hard
>best case scenario is a tuned 1.9 TDI, sub 200hp

Yup, you've never been in a fast car.

no

He drives a 1.3l diesel Fiat, no shit. That's 90hp at best.

>sub 200hp
Oh man, I know guys pushing around 300hp/450Nm at the wheels from a 1.9.
It all depends on how much money you want to put into the engine.
There are italian guys pushing 180hp from 1.3 multijets, just as an example.

youtube.com/watch?v=ZFwUlKvyXkI

That Ibiza has a 1.9 block. Where's your god now?

The Punto is not a pretty good car. But for that money (3-5000 euro depending on age) you can buy a 2002-2007 Mazda6 diesel with 136hp. That's what I have. Or some VAG 1.9 diesel if you want tuning.

AHAHAHHAHAHA
You honestly said that as if it was a lot
Oh jesus
I guess, the sad thing is, you believe it...

C'mon man, just stop it. You're giving us europeans a bad (worse) name...

Sorry I mean it it is not bad, it is pretty good.

>180hp
>good

Holy fucking shit my sides

>180 for a 1.3L

Still not fucking good, not even close. Here is 900 from a 2.0L.

>700000 lbs of boost
>rebuild every 20 miles
epic dyno queen

It's not an awful car but surely you could get a Ford Focus or something for the same money which would be a little nicer.

It handles ok but it's slow, shit gearboxes and bad ergonomics.

>300hp isn't more than adequate for a DD
Why don't you just quit trying to impress the burgers?
My mom's estate puts out 230hp and that thing is a fucking rocket on the highway.

>rebuilt every highway pull
lmao
Not even mentioning diesels aren't even meant to put out a lot of raw power, it's all about them torks.

Gearbox is pretty decent imo, it's notchy and light.
Shame about the 1st gear tho, it's way too short.

>230hp is considered "a fucking rocket on the highway" in yurop
>meanwhile in America most cars start at 200hp

It's not about "being considered." It is fucking fast.
It reaches 200km/h in a blink of an eye. It's not all about horsepower, 500Nm plus does its work pretty nicely.

Dude, just stop. It's literally Camry-tier power.

>230hp is considered "a fucking rocket on the highway" in yurop
sometimes. pic related

lots of torks in a diesel can make a car pull pretty hard until you run out of rpms. but mjet's fanboism makes the rest of us yuropeans look bad.

>230hp/500Nm is slow for murrican standards
I have no words, friend.

good für you

Stop talking about fucking torque you brainwashed diesel cuck. Are you towing anything in your Punto?
230 BHP makes a last gen V6 mustang look fucking fast

This guy is trolling on another level, lol.

My 1989 minivan has a 351w, it has more hp and tq at idle than your little shitbox brapped out. And it gets, in your bizarre notation, 28.2l/100km. Pretty fuel efficient for the USA, where we can actually afford gas.

>hp = fast
>torque is useless

nigger when driving in average traffic, do you rather have good punch from low revs on or do you rather wait for your car to reach 8k rpm to move away from the traffic light?

>smashing

>28.2
>efficient
>a e46 m3 makes less than half of that

>HP=Speed
Yeah you can keep ignoring weight and drag, doesn't matter if you drive a 625 hp 3000 nm truck or a 625 hp 3000 nm fucking Smart.
My dad drives a 2013 or something Dodge Charger Hemi RT 5.7 with like 370 hp and the flipping mini john cooper works edition with 211 hp can keep up with it.

Note he was talking about a wagon with 230hp. For a small hatchback 200+hp is pretty good.

Yeah but if you drive a 300hp car you get used to it pretty fast, same if you drive a 600hp car you get used to it.
mjet drives a 70hp punto so of course 230hp feels crazy to him. He's probably get bored with that eventually.

I wasn't even talking about my Punto, lol.

Even in that wagon, 230hp is good to reach the 250 limiter.

>70hp
Oh ffs, at least get your memes right.

>wait for your car to reach 8k rpm to move away from the traffic light
>this is what dieselfags actually believe

Is "diesel is best for performance cars" the new Veeky Forums meme? What the fuck are you and mjet on about. Diesel is for fuel efficiency and towing, nothing else. There's nothing fun about them.

>Is "diesel is best for performance cars" the new Veeky Forums meme?
but it is, user

Didn't that lose to a V4 Porsche?

>diesel is not fun
Diesel is goat.

>slower than a f1 car

there are no good cars that are fun to drive?

>LMP slower than F1

Wow no shit sherlock

gasoline > diesel

Beat it once at le mans, lost twice. you're right, hybrid 4-cyl is the GOAT

which one's faster over 24 hours?

gasoline > diesel

Stay triggered.

Sure is boring.

I bet your 1.3L Punto is just as fun to drive as those purpose built drift machines :^)
They're basically the exact same thing because they both have diesel engines :^)

I bet your petrol civic is just as fun to drive as those purpose built hot hatches :^)
They're basically the exact same thing because they both have petrol engines :^)

Are you seriously saying that diesel version of a car is more fun than a petrol version

>1.3l cuck- hitbox

lol, dont forget to get a trip like the other cuck with a fiat shitbox

just get a miata

>FOUND
>IN
>AOAD
>TEAD

>petrol civic
>purpose built hot hatches

I still await response on this, mjet.

>automotive """journalism"""
Fiat a literal shit but I wouldn't trust an internet journalist to tell me what colour the sky is.

Reviewing cars is literally their job. They've driven every car under the sun for years. I would trust Car and Driver a lot more than some Veeky Forumstists who drive old camrys and pretend to know how every car feels to drive
