What is Veeky Forums concensus on the b8/b8.5 Audi s4 ?

I need a fun and fast daily driver. I would love the quattro system as we get over 10 feet of snow yearly.

Would you go with the DSG or the manual ? I have a budget of roughly 30k$

bump anyone ?

Hey! I currently daily a S4 B7,I can say I love it in the snow, I've driven the b8 and it's similar just much more luxurious. If you can handle the maintenance costs (which for me have been relatively rare, but what I have had has been costly). The aftermarket is great as well, lots of options for looks as well as performance. Although Audi's get lots of shit on Veeky Forums I can say I love mine and recommend one if you want some smiles per miles. Also, I would go with the manual if you are comfortable driving it in the snow! Truly a blast

thanks for the input, have you had trouble with the infamous timing chain on your b7 v8 ?

YEP! It is my first car, luckily a friend of mine warned me about it and I took it to a VAG specialist (lol). I normally like to work on my cars but these things can be a bitch and not too fun. I would post pictures but mine is essentially bone stock besides tints, wheels, and a small tune.

10/10 interiors but pigfat, slow, heavy and overpriced. If you're hellbent on German luxury I'd say to check out an E90 335i.

Also two things I forgot to mention:
1. Get a manual; they're a lot more fun
2. The 335i I mentioned comes in AWD (Xdrive)(most people also bought it in AWD for some reason)

I agree (I'm the guy with the B7 above). I think at some point it comes down to preference though. But OP I would also agree that the 335i is a great, quick car. Actually, the BMW costs are normally less than the Audi :(
Although I prefer the way the B8 looks!

Well the E92 is a great looking car but I'll concede if it's B8 vs. E90 (as in the sedan) then the B8 is definitely a lot more attractive.

Both beautiful and fun to drive, I love the feeling of driving my car in -15 degree weather and being warm and luxurious the way the car was meant to be driven! I plan on getting a 335i in the near future though.

The 335i is one of the few BMWs that the reliability memes are true for. It would be slightly more of a shit show than the Audi, especially if he modified it at all.
Issues I can remember off the top of my head are guaranteed water pump failure ($800 or so iirc), carbon build up issues which require walnut blasting, turbo waste gate issues, and also just the turbos dying, and somewhat early valvecover replacements, the run flats are shit and will need replacing if the car still has them, and idrive was awful back then. Also the AWD version will be just about as pigfat, but it is RWD biased.

The N54 is covered by a 10 year warranty and was replaced with the N55 in I believe 2010, the N55 itself being very reliable. I'm planning on buying the latter myself and replacing the runflats immediately if the previous owner didn't already though.

ìsnt the 335 a maintenance nightmare ? Hpfp, injectors, water pump, turbos...

see: >Also the AWD version will be just about as pigfat
335xi: 3,583 to 3,770 lbs
S4: 3,847 to 3,924 lbs

Depends, the price for some of the things on my S4 has been a pain. Some things I had to get straight from VAG and it costed an arm and a leg. But this is all anecdotal and I've only owned the S4 so I don't know shit.

If you're gonna buy An S4, buy the fucking wagon. If not, buy an S5. S4 lines look shitty and ass is droopy on the sedan version.

I second this, the wagon is rarer but so sexy and fun.

Sedan looks a little off in the back, wagon looks terrible while just reeking of "I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing" - you're buying a car that's already pigfat and made for performance and making it a lot more pigfat without needing the addition space.
This reads as samefaggtory

Not samefagging. But what ever the fuck you say i guess.

And, really dudebro? "pigfat and made for performance" The R8 V10 is made for performance. The the S4 is just a fast DD, its not supposed to be a lightweight supercar. Project somewhere else. When buying an S4 you just dont give a shit wether the wagon adds like a 150 pounds, because it doesnt even matter and it look way better. Has nothing to do with "needing the extra space" lol

>Buy an S4 over an A4
>DUDE PERFORMANCE MATTER DUUUUUDE
You can't actually come with a reason to buy the wagon besides shit taste

bump for any other opinions/advices

going to test drive a 2011 s4 with 45,000 miles tomorrow, they are asking 26k$

Just get rwd faggot. Roads are plowed. Snow tires are enough.

Get an e39 540i or e46 330i/m3 post 03

Fvck that, quattro is more fun

2010 S4 owner here. It's a mixed bag for me, I'll throw out some pros and cons

Pro:
>Hell of a handsome, but understated car. To most normies you're sophisticated for driving an Audi, but other enthusiasts will know
>quattro can indeed save your ass in bad weather, just don't turn ESP off
>One of the best balances between cost, speed, safety, and practicality you can find on the market
>Engine itself is reliable but not bulletproof
>Utterly comfortable and stable even at 155mph
>qts are strangely attracted to it
Cons:
>LOADS of gadgets and accessories to break. They might not all impact the car mechanically but to keep it in top condition you'll need to set aside at least $200 a month for incidentals.
>Sport diff is almost necessary to have fun on a track but also stupidly fragile
>Is a magnet for thieves/vandals if you don't live in a quiet area
>Subpar navigation/infotainment interface, lack of customizable driving dynamics like on E60 5-series
>Those plastic bumpers
>That plastic underbody
>That brittle AF German paint

Overall I'd say it deserves an 8.5/10. It pales compared to an M3 or C63 but I understand your needs and it's a world more practical than an STI. If I had to describe the sensation of driving it (stock) I'd call it almost like a 4-door grand tourer. You get the sensation of speed when you're cruising past poor people in the left lane of the interstate, not racing some kid at a stoplight. Personally I'd take the DSG since the manual shift mode is responsive enough to satisfy me, and it doesn't quite feel like the manual would suit the attitude of the car. For $30k you can definitely get a pristine example of the B8, just figure out whether you want hydraulic (2010-2012) or electric (2013+) power steering (the only difference is a slight boost in HP with electric, I think only about +21). If you want to get a little more reckless with your money though, I would look in to a used S6 for dat TTV8.

Yeah no faggot, where I live its snowfuckingstan.

>my taste is good taste
>your taste is shit taste

Sure thing, pal.
