Well I hope you guys are happy, I got let go before my shift even ended. They called me and wanted me in at 9 instead of noon.

Accidentally double gasketed a new camry and the filter let go on the highway. Customer called back, didnt realize that oil was flowing out and the engine seized. They said it was either make me pay or let me go. Chose to just leave.

Fucking pissed.

Well that fucking sucks. How many years Have you been In for the mechanic meme?

Double gasket is a pretty noob mistake. Sucks to lose your job.

Damn bro.......

Car noob here. What does double gasket mean, and how do you do it accidently?

man even doing my own oil changes at 16 I knew to make sure the old gasket came off of an oil filter.

I lol'd. You deserve it....a job that requires training is that way for a reason. Potentially could have killed someone with your stupidity.

Find a job you are QUALIFIED for.

Oil filters have a gasket on them

Double gasket is when the gasket gets stuck onto the mounting face on the block, and you screw the new filter onto it

>could have killed someone

Not him, but come on, that's a bit of a stretch for a double gasket.

kill yourself cuck

...how does one not notice this? Is the oil filter on the Camry not in a visible location?

This seems like a pretty stupid mistake, no offense to OP.

good, now go get a real job not working flat rate, or you may have been hourly already if you were a lube bitch.

Probably was in a rush/excited and pulled the filter without checking for the gasket.

I would have bit the bullet to keep my job

It's kinda hard to pay off a debt when you have no income

Learn from your mistake and never do it again. You did the right thing to leave. They have insurance. Any company that tells you to pay is a shady business.

For anybody who missed last nights thread....he was an unqualified/untrained person who applied for a job as a tech, and lied about his experience saying he went to tech school and had two years experience.

His training consisted of coming to Veeky Forums and watching a few youtube videos the night before work.

I think the oil filter is on the bottom of the camry.

So basically image related?

So you worked for a day and got fired? Lol

What a great country, where you get firef for simple mistakes. I bet your companies insurance will pay for that camry and no further fucks will be given. Maybe some ass kissing for the “special snowflake american customer“.

Glad he got fired, what a dumbass

>waahhhhh I shouldn't be held responsible for my actions
Give it a rest OP, Jesus fuck

Does he expect to get sympathy? Something was gonna go wrong sooner or later, glad it was sooner before something serious happened.

It's possible, a pool of oil in a canyon road could definitely kill someone.

Didn't know shit like that can happen.

Gaskets can sometimes be hidden with a lot of gunk around them. Still a stupid mistake.

Is this really what American companies are like? They fire people for making a mistake anyone could have done? Sure you check for double gaskets every damn time, but you're bound to fuck up at one point or another. Especially in a hectic environment like a workshop.

But you really fucked up by not checking the engine compartment after driving it out into the parking lot.

Is that even possible? How was he not busted the first fucking day?

Because often the daily work of a tech is just to do basic maintenance like changing tires/pads and oil change. Faggot OP wasn't even able to do that properly and got busted.

Typically there is a probation period for new employees, if you fuck up big time you will be fired. If he was a seasoned employee I think they would have just given him a warning.

I guess tech means something different in the US than in my country then. Here technicians are the guys who diagnose electrical faults, the mechanical faults the mechanics couldn't figure out, and shit like that. Too valuable to be wasted on oil changes and brake pads.

OP stop samefagging at any time

not buying it, I've pulled off filters for standard services and found they had been double gasketed and weren't even leaking. It might leak but it wouldn't fall off as you pulled onto the freeway

How are you planning to pay for a complete engine swap in a brand new camry? Might as well file for bankruptcy if you already have loans.

Genuine question from my part. Work culture and the laws regarding firing people in my country are radically different from the US, it would seem.

And I double gasketed two or three VAGs during my apprenticeship, with really shitty results every fucking time. No engines got sized up, as the customer was smart enough to pull into the side when he noticed something was wrong.

>Get fired for fucking up simple oil change
>It's Veeky Forums's fault not mine
Dumbass.

I missed it so here's the link

Proof or bullshitting

Why are you angry? You fucked up and it got found out. And as long as they don't discover your lies, you will not have any reprecussions from it.

For now they just think you are a moron. And rightfully so.

Op destroyed an engine on his first day. Yes he deserves to be fired engines aren't cheap and he hadn't proven his value yet.
Insurance won't cover it the dealership will.
t. Service manager

>Proof or bullshitting
You missed yesterday's thread where OP posted in a panic asking for advice. He interviewed at a Toyota dealership and got hired after lying about his work experience. OP said he needed a job. So today's thread is just the summary.

I appreciate OP coming back to fill us in on what happened. It's too bad he was not able to learn on the job, but he should have tried to work at some entry level place first rather than trying to get some higher paying job that required skills to avoid damaging customers' cars and ruining the dealership's reputation.

I inspect my car after servicing. The younger or nubie-looking the employees are, the more worried I am. When I see nothing but older guys working, I feel a lot of relief. I always inspect my car after an oil change. I drive a distance away, put my phone on a selfie-stick, and get nice views of the underside of the car. If you have a selfie stick, it really is useful in checking your car out. You can have movies as well as take pictures using remote shutter control.

>Lie about experience
>Accidentally get hired
>Panics because he doesn't know shit to the point he asks an image board known for non stop shitposting and infighting for help to do his job

>The madman actually shows up to work rather then staying home and not answering the phone

>Destroys what was probably a fairly new cars engine
>"hurr thats what insurance is for!"

FYI, insurance is for "Oh shit half the lift failed and dropped a car on its side" not "Oh shit the new guy fucked an engine". Any company so blatantly abusing their insurance like that is going to end up bankrupt or without an insurance company willing to cover them.

>Well I hope you guys are happy
Quite, yes.

It's fuckups like you that make people not want to trust mechanics.

I won't ask you to find a fire and go die in it, but I won't try to dissuade you either...

I'm surprised he properly lifted the car with a hoist.

My first time around with a hoist was a disaster. By that I mean I clearly looked like I didn't trust it.
>Move saddle to desired location
>Raised hoist to almost touching
>Readjusted saddles
>Lifted some more
>Set back down and adjusted again
>Raised vehicle
>Walk around all four corners and one of the saddles wasn't 100%
>Let down and adjusted
>Raised vehicle
>Same saddle moved again
>Eventually boss man walked over and asked what I was doing
>Told him the issue
>He looked at it and said it'll be okay
>First hour working under the lift I was nervous as fuck, didn't trust the air lock

Your fucking fault for lying in the first place, shitbag

I refuse to believe this is real.

did the 2017 camry go back to regular oil filters?

my 2012 has one of these and it only uses o-rings

Fuck forgot to warn op about double gaskets all of us forgot to warn him. I'm sorry op :l are you in California?

>could have killed someone
>Not him, but come on, that's a bit of a stretch for a double gasket.

The oil drips out and gets over an intersection. Some asshole pedestrian crosses the street against the red light. And yes, this goes on all the time around here. I slam my brakes on. Oh no. I keep sliding forward on the oily street. Right into the pedestrian.

Thanks, OP, for the oil slick.

The pedestrian walks away. My front end is wrecked where it hit him. Damn, they just don't build Miata's like they used to.

The world is full of people who boldly lie about their qualifications and what they did at their previous jobs. It can be particularly effective if they pick a business that just recently went out of business. That would leave the prospective employer with no one to contact since the shop is gone.

Well at least now you can add "Toyota Tech" to your resumé and you won't be lying.

What did you expect was going to happen?

Without taking anything away from the seriousness of your mistake, if they hired you and threw you on the line without vetting you, that was probably a shitty place to work anyway. Any competent service manager should have seen how green you were from a mile away. For future reference, do not lie about your experience if you want to be a mechanic. Or anything else for that matter.

>inb4 someone says it was an easy mistake that can happen to anyone.
This bullshit was preventable. Now some tech is gonna have to put a motor in for warranty time. But... at least it's one of the easier cars to work on.

If the motor locks up while the car is in gear at high speed it can potentially cause a loss of control. Also, oil all over the road can cause other vehicles to lose control.

Me too. I guess OP must have double o-ringed it, and then called the o-ring a gasket.

You can't double o ring those retard he's talking about the regular spin on filters.

>I got fired for incompetence when I performed a task so simple even neckbears on Veeky Forums can do without issue

Good riddance, maybe wrenchino ain't for you

This is why you NEVER take your car to a dealership. Wouldn't be surprised if the owner of the car has to fight the dealership to get them to replace the engine now.

I cant believe that they actually hired you, shit and job searching is fucking tough right now next time don't be an asshat and lie on your next job sometimes they even offer training

>double gasketed a new camry

new camrys don't use spin on oil filters, so I guess op also fucked up by putting on a wrong oil filter?

OP will next try out for a position as surgeon. Oops, that was supposed to be a vasectomy, but I cut something else by mistake.

Then your country is certainly run by incompetent fuck-ups.
>Wait, we were doing a triple bypass? I thought it was a tracheotomy, whoops
>wow wtf how could you fire me

>Is this really what American companies are like?
No, but occasionally some small local shops can be fooled by bold liars. It seems inconceivable that someone would lie all the way to the shop floor where they would be forced to prove themselves. But that toyota shop will probably test applicants from now on.

They had to eat the cost of an engine due to OP causing the engine to be lossed.

OP didn't cause the engine to be lossed. OP caused the oil to leak.

The dumb bitch driving the engine dry by not paying attention to the gauges and warning lights caused the engine to be lossed.

jej

The fag deserved it for not knowing how to change the oil himself

t. OP

>laws regarding firing people in my country are radically different from the US

Hiring and firing laws differ within each State in the USA, so the USA does NOT have one single way of doing things. In some states, it is easy to fire someone (anti union states) as any reason can be used as long as it is Constitutionally legal (aka bill of rights). In those states, having a fuckup can get you fired. Other states have grievance requirements.

In OP's case, it's best for him to run away and never mention it anywhere. If the newspapers got hold of the story, they would run it for the LOLs and show OP's real full name for everyone to see. That would really make it hard to get a job in his area.

what Chinese Cartoon is that?

that sucks dude
be more careful though

That screencap is from the anime "Koutetsujou no Kabaneri" (aka Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) by WIT Studios (the maker of the popular hit anime series Attack on Titan). If you like trains, this anime has more on-board train action than any other anime in the past 20 years. It has strong visuals, good sound effects, audio styling, and a good amount of cinematography that you'd expect from an action drama series..

How old are you, OP? I just read your first thread and don't understand how you can be so desperate to apply to a position you have no clue or even interest about. Why not just an entry level grocery or fast food position? You're clearly not above minimum wage.

>has more on-board train action than any other anime in the past 20 years

More than Baccano?

These trains are more than just simple cargo-carrying vehicles. They are also mobile armored fortresses in a time when steampunk is a viable feudal technology.

either that or this whole thread is fake and gay

Tbh, the story turns a bit cliche, but the visuals and animation are top notch

>I just read your first thread and don't understand how you can be so desperate to apply to a position you have no clue or even interest about.

Not OP, but as a former volunteer in social services, I've seen any number of cases where people are desperate for money. That desire justifies all sorts of methods in getting money or social services. What other people need is secondary or tertiary. At least toyota was able to fire the former employee without paying severance wages or go thru a discrimination lawsuit. With my current employer, a discrimination lawsuit can cost up to 120K but usually winds up at 40K. So the company may pay out $10K to $25K settlement just to make the case go away.

That's why some people will say anything to get hired. They just need to be hired. If fired, they can then file a discrimination lawsuit and make the company give them a quick hit. The company is obligated to try to hire and have racial equality because it does have federal contracts. Many times, these hires are not up to the task but firing them is very difficult if it is for a job contracted with the government. It can take up to one year during which they are to be paid if there is any discrimination EVEN if PROVEN incompetent. What matters more is that discrimination occurred. Further, they are immune to layoff for one year after the suit. It's very tricky in this Obama administration which is very much anti-discrimination.

Lmao, this is Bullshit. I work in HR law for a large corporation and we almost never settle discrimination claims. It's very easy to beat an EEOC investigation and most attorneys aren't going to take these kinds of cases due to the risk and the fact that the employer holds all of the records.

I have vague memory's of bludgeoning off gaskets with a flat head screw driver
never thought much of it at the time only that it might leak a little less with a clean surface to bond to

Why would you rush to a job at a dealership while lying about experience when you could get a job at a tire shop for a similar salary?

Aren't mechanics protected against such situations?
I mean, where I live if you cause some damage, the worst they can do to you is fire you, but the workshop is insured against these kinds of accidents.
I haven't checked, but it's probably illegal here to ask the employee to pay for the damage he caused, it can only be used as a reason for firing him.

>If the motor locks up while the car is in gear at high speed it can potentially cause a loss of control
Engines don't seize the way you think they seize.

>Is it okay for us to contact your previous employers?

I don't see how a oil leak could kill somebody, but double gasketing an oil filter is the kind of sloppy mistake that is on par with forgetting a cotter pin, not torquing a nut etc.

Bro seriously you're talking five grand max, also if you already work at the dealership they'll take it from your check little by little not one lump sum

That could also be a "reverse screw" by the dealership so that they don't have to use their insurance to cover an accidental loss. They can get the unskilled employee who lied about credentials to sign the paperwork to pay back the cost on some installment plan. Once he signs the paperwork, they FIRE HIM. The dealership is not so poor that they can't afford to wait a period of time to get the money plus interest. And instead of simply firing the employee and having nothing, this way they get the employee to pay back and they still fired the employee.

That's how I'd do it if I were the dealer.

Get fucked you lying dumbass. It is all your fault. Live with the shame you goddamn idiot.

americans throw around bullshit superfluous important sounding titles just so the people don't feel bad

the people at subway who make sandwiches are "sandwich artists"
custodians at mcdonalds are "Hygiene Technicians"
baggers at grocery stores are "Front Service Clerks"
stock dudes in grocery stores are "Product Replenishment Specialists/Technicians"

Oh really? Educate me then.

My dad double gasketed a filter on his boat once. It blew oil everywhere immediately

>Well I hope you guys are happy, I got let go before my shift even ended.
I fucking told you.
I feel like that guy who thinks he's special because he predicted the sun would go down

If the engine is still connected to a drive gear and runs dry, it will essentially score the fuck out of the piston walls (among other components) and destroy the engine. You'll immediately lose compression and the engine will die. When you roll to a stop your engine wont move anymore.

Every tech, sorry MECHANIC, that's worked for more than a few months and proven himself more qualified than OP does electrical diag.

Actually fuck remorse for rubbing it in, and fuck OP. Not only did he completely prove my post right, but he completely fucked someones car in the process, wasting thousands in bullshit warranty claims

>didnt notice the oil pissing out after filling it back up
>literally cant even do an oil change properly
why even live?

more than Miracle Train: Welcome to the Oedo Line?

>americans throw around bullshit superfluous important sounding titles just so the people don't feel bad
sounds like a European thing

>essentially score the fuck out of the piston walls
Lmao "piston walls"

>, not torquing a nut
I bet you torque everything to "spec" instead of remembering how tight it was to get off

Should have applied for a salesmen position if you can get away with spouting bullshit like that.

Holy fuck, even Walmart techs know to check for double gasket.
