Only two characters, Carnage and Hyperion require you spend money to get and unlock. There are soft paywalls for characters that are just really hard to grind for

Paywall only, per se, are Carnage and Hyperion, whom you can only get and max out if you pay the bio subscription for 4 months of so, if you don't use any tickets.

Otherwise, there are some characters(Gwenpool and Clea) that can be considered soft-paywall, in that you can get them for free and max them out for free, but it'll take a really long time to do so without tickets and biosub.

If you use one of your 20 daily selectors (you get one each day for your first 3 days ), then a mega-rank up ticket to get him to 6*, and you'll only need to spend $8.50 to rank up his gears which'll get him to T2.

So $8.50 if you know what you're doing and/or get screwed by RNG. $17 if you don't.

At T2, he's the best combat character in the game though, so he's worth it.

Also carnage will cost you like $8.49 I think the bio sub costs? You get 20 bios of any character per day for a month, just choose carnage every day and you should (I think) be able to get him to 6* by the end
