With Steam there's multiple things to take into account. Pricing a vn at $9.99 or less can get you more sales, since Steam specifically lets you search for games in that price range. Vns are also (sadly) considered a bargain medium on Steam. Porn seems to sell quite well on Steam when a patch is provided, but people are quick to call censorship when no patch is provided.
Reminder that you don't need a publisher. They don't offer much and expect a sizable cut of all your profits in return. On top of that MG in particular can't remember to hit launch buttons. And I recently learned that their staff is infested with those trigger happy SJWs that like to do public call outs of people.
Some of their staff members dogpiled another one of their staff members publically on social media for a joke he made that they found offensive.

Who claims they don't exist? I think the usual claim is that people are different, some people are nuts, many people will fly off the handle at anything they happen to encounter but most people don't go out actively hunting for things to be offended by (although some will, especially if they can get praise and blog hits for posting about things that offended them), and the definition of 'SJW' is so vague that it encapsulates a lot of Veeky Forums posters too.
